A few moments ago I took another look through Gruefood Delight, this time focusing on the "Hacks/Homebrews" category. #2003: max12187566's NES Super Lion King in 05:24.38, #2042: HappyLee's NES Full Moon Mario in 05:11.58, and #2544: True's NES Somari in 24:14.09 all look enticing at first glance, but the first two were submitted 16 years ago and the optimization on the latter was deemed to be less than par. The one that sticks out the most to be is #4563: IgorOliveira666's SNES Super Mario Bros. Enhanced "warps" in 11:02.71, which I believe was judged during a time where the site was much more strict on romhacks than it is now. Then I took another look at Gruefood Delight's "Alternate Goals" category. The runs there that stick out to me the most are #872: Genisto's GBA Mario Kart: Super Circuit "Playaround" in 43:49.38, #1660: Hongbaichaoren's NES Super C in 12:35.93, #1783: Genisto's SNES Super Mario World "playaround" in 52:39.23, #1801: Genisto's SNES Super Mario World "playaround" in 45:30.42, #1991: AngerFist's NES Mega Man 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 in 02:42.90, #2624: MUGG's GB Super Mario Land "walkathon" in 15:00.23, #2704: Felipe's Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog 2 "Without SpinDash" in 22:29.52, #2828: scrimpeh's NES Castlevania "no subweapons, no damage" in 13:18.44, #3556: Brandon's NES Super Mario Bros. "minimum presses" in 05:48.04, #4121: Sam's N64 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time "Ganonless" in 31:13.17, #3952: coconou's SNES The Smurfs "Pacifist, No Damage" in 24:10.30, #3965: c-square's NES Super Jeopardy! in 25:28.57, #5656: Soig's Genesis Contra: Hard Corps "100%" in 1:17:21.79, and #6774: Baddap1's NES Extra Mario Bros. "bad ending" in 05:26.78. Wow, that's a lot more games than I thought I would list here.

"bad ending" in 05:26.78. Wow, that's a lot more games than I thought I would list here.
So took a look through these and these are my brief thoughts on these.
  1. #2003: max12187566's NES Super Lion King in 05:24.38 - Reviewed this and it was unoptimized since new wall clip trick
  2. #2042: HappyLee's NES Full Moon Mario in 05:11.58 - Only rejected due to poor viewer response. Looks like a good candidate for re-judging.
  3. #2544: True's NES Somari in 24:14.09 - Originally rejected for Optimization so that won't change from then to now. Rather it probably is worse now since it has been 14 years since this was submitted and new tricks were probably found.
  4. #4563: IgorOliveira666's SNES Super Mario Bros. Enhanced "warps" in 11:02.71 - Hacks and homebrews are less strict nowadays so probably a good candidate for re-judging
  5. #872: Genisto's GBA Mario Kart: Super Circuit "Playaround" in 43:49.38 - Since this is a playaround it goes for entertainment and this was rejected due to not being entertaining enough.
  6. #1660: Hongbaichaoren's NES Super C in 12:35.93 - [3239] NES Super C "1 player" by Xipo, feos & Koh1fds in 11:50.40 was published and faster than this.
  7. #1783: Genisto's SNES Super Mario World "playaround" in 52:39.23 - Since this is a playaround it goes for entertainment and this was rejected due to not being entertaining enough.
  8. #1801: Genisto's SNES Super Mario World "playaround" in 45:30.42 - This has probably not aged well since 2007. The judge comments that this looked similar to the published movies. I would want a playaround to show a wealth of glitches and this probably does not come close to [4685] SNES Super Mario World "glitchfest" by IgorOliveira666 in 2:54:33.62. Very skeptical this would be acceptable now.
  9. #1991: AngerFist's NES Mega Man 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 in 02:42.90 - This might fit into Playground?
  10. #2624: MUGG's GB Super Mario Land "walkathon" in 15:00.23 - Cancelled submissions by author cannot be accepted. Also author cancelled because of optimization reasons.
  11. #2704: Felipe's Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog 2 "Without SpinDash" in 22:29.52 - I agree that is a rather arbitrary goal. Also 2010 so probably outdated. Maybe Playground? *EDIT: fsvgm777 (Stella) just noted that the Felipe user is banned indefinitely so this tas cannot be accepted.
  12. #2828: scrimpeh's NES Castlevania "no subweapons, no damage" in 13:18.44 - Goal seems a bit arbitrary, and there is a note that improvements were noticed and this was in 2010 so probably outdated as this point. Can look at re-judging.
  13. #3556: Brandon's NES Super Mario Bros. "minimum presses" in 05:48.04 - We do have some minimum some button presses, but this seems kind of different. Goal might still be an issue, but the question for this could be raised. Can look at re-judging.
  14. #4121: Sam's N64 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time "Ganonless" in 31:13.17 - Cancelled submissions by author cannot be accepted. Also, there is [4324] N64 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time "game end glitch" by homerfunky in 06:37.33 which does the same thing but in 6 and a half minutes.
  15. #3952: coconou's SNES The Smurfs "Pacifist, No Damage" in 24:10.30 - Goal is a little complex, and this is a 2013 tas. This looks like a candidate for re-judging.
  16. #3965: c-square's NES Super Jeopardy! in 25:28.57 - This sounds like a playaround based on the description and it was rejected for entertainment reasons.
  17. #5656: Soig's Genesis Contra: Hard Corps "100%" in 1:17:21.79 - While it says 100% this is really multiple separate tases linked together through resets for this "all endings" goal.
  18. #6774: Baddap1's NES Extra Mario Bros. "bad ending" in 05:26.78 - Not sure about this one. The reason for rejection was "entertainment", and entertainment for alternative tases (besides playaround) was removed with newer rules. However there is a question about whether this is "bad ending" is an actual ending or not. Worth a re-judge.
----- ----- In summary these ones below are probably good to re-judge. However a lot of these are dated and they may just result in an "un-optimized" result. Copying lines from above just to keep the ones to judge and the notes I wrote together.
  1. #4563: IgorOliveira666's SNES Super Mario Bros. Enhanced "warps" in 11:02.71 - Hacks and homebrews are less strict nowadays so probably a good candidate for re-judging. Edit: Cannot find older patch for hack online.
  2. #2042: HappyLee's NES Full Moon Mario in 05:11.58 - Only rejected due to poor viewer response. Looks like a good candidate for re-judging. Edit: Accepted. Entertainment rule no longer applies.
  3. #1991: AngerFist's NES Mega Man 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 in 02:42.90 - This might fit into Playground? Edit: Incomplete cannot be accepted.
  4. #2828: scrimpeh's NES Castlevania "no subweapons, no damage" in 13:18.44 - Goal seems a bit arbitrary, and there is a note that improvements were noticed and this was in 2010 so probably outdated as this point. Can look at re-judging. Edit: Unoptimized at this point so not acceptable.
  5. #3556: Brandon's NES Super Mario Bros. "minimum presses" in 05:48.04 - We do have some minimum some button presses, but this seems kind of different and seems strange. Goal might still be an issue, but the question for this could be raised. Can look at re-judging. Edit: Accepted. Entertainment rule no longer applies.
  6. #3952: coconou's SNES The Smurfs "Pacifist, No Damage" in 24:10.30 - Goal is a little complex, and this is a 2013 tas. This looks like a candidate for re-judging. Edit: Unoptimized so not acceptable.
  7. Edit: Incomplete. Agree with judge's original reasons.

Went and took another look at Gruefood Delight, this time in the April Fools section. My time is limited right now, but right off the bat, #3515: RachelB's Wii The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess "glitched" in 00:22.65, #3523: Bobo_the_King's SNES Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars "Beetle Mania, maximum score" in 45:35.38, and #2611: adelikat's N64 Elmo's Letter Adventure "Playaround" in 01:12.40 stick out to me. (I'll take another, more closer look at the April Fools section once Christmas is over.)

  1. #3515: RachelB's Wii The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess "glitched" in 00:22.65 - Edits save which breaks the rules since that state cannot be achieved normally with the edited Epona name. Not acceptable.
  2. #3523: Bobo_the_King's SNES Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars "Beetle Mania, maximum score" in 45:35.38 - This might be acceptable for playground material. This starts from a SRAM save, but I see no verification movie however which means this cannot be played back and that means not acceptable.
  3. #2611: adelikat's N64 Elmo's Letter Adventure "Playaround" in 01:12.40 - Incomplete so not acceptable.

The author asked me to use one of my movie as a verification file. I assume they stopped playback at returning to mushroom kingdom after beating bundt, cake boss. Then, they unlocked beetle mania from kid npc in the inn. I should have a DM about it.

I found their DM from November, 2011. They didn't state which movie they used but given date of DM, https://tasvideos.org/1900M should be the one.

I don't know that game at all so I would really just need to be given the file used for verification. Might have to see if this person is able to be contacted and has a file that will sync with this.

As of now, there are 60 submissions marked as Playground. None of them have been given their own dedicated "Playground" page on the site, and there hasn't been a new entry in this list since September 21, 8 days before the submission acceptance threshold was loosened as per Post #532024. I would suggest going through all the Playground submissions and changing them to either accepted or rejected, but what do you guys think?

This thread is not for playground runs as they aren't runs that have been rejected. How the site deals with those runs is not pertinent to this thread. Also, I'd ask that people not use this thread to suggest for us to go through generalized groups of runs (gruefood delight, playground, etc). The focus with this thread is more to review specific runs people believe need rejudged as the reasons for their rejection may no longer be valid due to rule changes. If anyone is suggesting a run here, please link the specific submission(s) you feel needs revisited and list the reasons why you think that particular run needs rejudged. It's not that we don't care about the large general groups, we can plan to go through those once we've made it through the specific runs requested in this thread first; but we don't need recommendations to look through these kind of general groups.

Only way you might be able to do is asking them directly then. Judging from their userpage, their last login was last year so there might be a chance. Unfortunately, just published runs won't let you get beetle mania minigame because it's just wasting time so you need to do that manually to sync.

Or is it ok that I make verification movie instead of the author?

Please. I do not imagine it would be an issue especially considering they were using yours movie as a base.

Going through some old Game Choice submissions and some could potentially be acceptable. Beyond a very brief overview have not looked into these. Most older submissions don't even have video, and many seem to have just been rejected based on entertainment. Expect most to fail on optimization if they very old.
  1. #15: Jackic's NES Star Wars (Namco) in 19:55.75 - Suspecting optimization issues, but it is not clear. Poor optimization.
  2. #36: Walker_Boh's NES Gun.Smoke in 22:45.07
  3. #34: Remy_B.'s NES Aussie Rules Footy in 17:58.12
  4. #366: Mart's NES Ring King in 01:04.20
  5. #393: sliverjazz's SNES We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story in 25:03.50 - Suspecting optimization issues, but it is not clear.
  6. #614: GeminiSaint's NES Dikki Painguin in TKO for the Third Reich in 00:47.48 - Ehhhh no video, no comments either. Judge mentions low re-records but those can easily be changed by an author. Based on youtube video character is fighting against the Third Reich. Also seems to beat existing youtube vids.
  7. #728: sliverjazz's SNES NBA Hangtime in 14:04.77
  8. #744: MattyXB's GB Balloon Kid in 29:10.60 - Speedrun.com has a close time so could be timing differences. Not acceptable, there is a faster submission #1951: umekor's GB Balloon Kid in 28:49.23.
  9. #914: Diman's NES Balloon Fight in 01:32.93 - Not clear what is going on here. A video that does not exist is being referenced and the submission itself sounds like a playaround?
  10. #920: Slotermeyer's NES Magician in 10:59.95 - adelikat re-rejected based on it being unoptimized.
  11. #973: CtrlAltDestroy's NES 1943: The Battle of Midway in 1:15:53.78 - There is a speedrun a minute faster, but worth checking considering they are both near 1 hour 15 minutes. https://www.speedrun.com/1943_the_battle_of_midway
  12. #1013: Diman's SNES Street Fighter II in 10:18.12 - Very close speedrun.com time since this is on the hardest difficulty. Worth checking.
  13. #1033: LAVOS5's GBA Wario Ware, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! in 50:44.65 - Check if https://www.speedrun.com/wwi?h=Any&x=z277oz20 is actually the same thing.
  14. #1090: Diman's NES Urban Champion in 01:23.12 - Timing difference? https://www.speedrun.com/urban_champion/runs/y2qgdo9y
  15. #1091: macK's NES Rescue: The Embassy Mission in 02:06.37
  16. #1094: Lollybomb's Genesis Zero Wing in 33:33.43 - So why is [2303] Genesis Zero Wing by DDRKhat in 40:05.72 published instead?
  17. #1105: josh_l.'s NES Kid Niki: Radical Ninja in 10:33.85
  18. #1493: Bisqwit's DOS Star Control II in 35:03.50
  19. #1574: MikeRS's GBC Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in 04:16.38
  20. #1600: TheRandomPie_IV's Genesis Micro Machines: Turbo Tournament '96 in 09:26.78 -
  21. #3543: adelikat's NES Color a Dinosaur "100%" in 07:15.12 - Dinosaurs
  22. #3296: marzojr's Genesis ColinC10's Sonic VR in 07:52.72
These two need to be looked at, because they both look potentially good. Even though one is cancelled it could be uncancelled. Will continue list of ones to look at deeper later.

Thanks CoolHandMike and other judges for giving many of these runs a second chance.

The published run has a lower framecount, but is done on the PAL version which runs at ~49.7 FPS rather than the higher (and slightly inaccurate) 60.0 FPS, resulting in a longer time. Could still be worth investigating, if there are differences between the two game versions that lead to one being more optimal. (Though the same goal choice of the same autoscroller would be more pleasant to watch without 6.5 minutes of extra time.) Nominating: #5082: PikachuMan's SNES Pokemon Stadium in 14:51.17 - Rejected for game choice, Spikestuff said (in 2016) it looks optimized, though the author planned to optimize it further.

Many of these are probably optimization rejections. However now there are a lot of hacks that were submitted and then rejected for entertainment. Also a lot of board game submissions so triviality rules applied then. The april fools ones need to be looked at more closely since sometimes its not obvious if they could be acceptable now, and usually the judgement notes are not very helpful for those.
  1. #1574: MikeRS's GBC Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in 04:16.38
  2. #2059: adelikat's NES Hogan's Alley in 03:36.94 - Updating goal to playaround. Updating Rejection reason from Game Choice to Entertainment since it failed to entertain audience.
  3. #2269: nineko's Arcade OverTop in 05:14.90 - https://www.speedrun.com/over_top probably unoptimized
  4. #2515: MrOmicron's NES Mario Evolution in 16:46.34- previously rejected by old hack choice rules
  5. #2601: woabclf's NES Rockman L in 26:25.12 - old hack rules
  6. #2603: woabclf's NES Rockman 2 Dash in 26:55.00 - old hack rules

Now that rules and submissions are more recent snap judgements are more difficult. Still some triviality rule ones that are probably good now. The hacks need to be looked at since some seem potentially purely cosmetic or non transformative. These ones will need to be looked at more closely. If any of these are obviously unoptimized leave a comment. After this, there are not many left to be reconsidered at all from "Game Choice" rejections.

I believe that's as far as the original hack goes, yes. I very much doubt there is something past the invisible wall in DONUT PLAINS 1. For 100%, there is never come back with no enemies (no use trying to perform the Item Swap glitch there) and an unchanged YELLOW SWITCH PALACE. Since YOSHI'S HOUSE in the hack is mostly the same as YOSHI'S ISLAND 2 in terms of enemies, maybe a game end glitch would be possible. I'm not holding my breath though. As far as optimization goes, it's probably just this oscillating speeds thing (especially the hopping glitch) and the fadeout lag that I barely had an understanding of; could probably save at least half a second on each level with them in mind. But I dunno, this was pretty much my only real-ish attempt at making a Super Mario World TAS; it was very basic too, so it's not like I was gonna make it somewhere with it lol.

That's a hack name (and author name) I haven't heard of in a while... IPS patch link to Super Clip Bros 2.0 (since that's the version of the hack the run plays on) I might work on an improved run of the hack, so maybe it's best that you hold onto that un-rejection, please.
Yaaay, I'm an active player now! :D (as of 11/9/2024) Thanks to TASVideos for the support, they're awesome.
I'm Asumeh, semi-expert SMB1 TASer. :) Check out some of the TASes I don't submit/upload to TASVideos on my YouTube channel, if you'd like. In progress: - Extra Mario Bros. (redo) (with HappyLee and w7n) - I'm currently assisting with finding improvements before the boss. On hold; we're currently struggling to confirm that we have the fastest route. Some debugging may also help with finding glitch exits, but neither of us are experts in that field. - Record my older TASes (excluding any obsolete TASes) and upload to YouTube. - Pretty busy at the moment... Check out my other links here. (Mostly WIP hehe)
