[3809] Linux Mari0 "Portal mappack, 1 player" by lexikiq & Masterjun in 03:05.23 for exploiting many momentum tricks to send Mario blazing at unprecedented speeds. Mario goes especially fast compared to TASes of Super Mario Bros., a game this is based off of.

[3833] Linux TowerFall Ascension "all trials, 1000 fps" by keylie in 03:26.75 It's so fast that you can't even follow what's going on. At all. Not sure if it's a good thing, but it's indeed speedy.

[3760] SNES Kirby's Dream Land 3 "best ending" by WaddleDX in 1:04:01.22 It uses the animal buddies and abilities in ways I never thought were possible. The abuse of the Stone ability and the 2 Player mechanics were pretty unexpected too.

[3702] DS Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies by Hoandjzj in 6:06:01.94 Seriously? It can be nominated!??? Haha xD And this one!??? [3817] PSX Final Fantasy IX by Lil_Gecko in 7:58:48.17 Honestly, this list has so many slow TASes. Where did The Mask go?? Nothing to pick! Well, there is a pair of decent movies. [3799] N64 Doom 64 by Headshot in 23:54.90 Controlling the Main Hero with neutral resets makes him running very fast which makes the TAS quite dynamical. The only slowdown there are monsters that block paths. Headshot found great tricks to make the TAS even faster, and all this in a pretty complicated game. [3794] Wii The Conduit by NEVERDOORS in 45:46.70 Almost all missions are shortened with the help of out-of-bounds tricks. Although the game is designed for a several hours of play, it has been finished quite fast. Let alone the cutscene where his SMG is moving in the air.
TASing is like making a film: only the best takes are shown in the final movie.

[3793] DOS King's Quest: Quest for the Crown by DrD2k9 in 00:18.30 18 seconds to finish this game is insanely fast, and the blur on the screen shows it. Also, that climb up the beanstalk is so hard that real-time runners refuse to take that route, even though it's faster.

I was considering this, but I need more convincing that this is eligible. The bulk of the speed that allows it anywhere near 18 seconds comes from running the game on a system much faster than it was designed for. The overall game-time is also not relevant for this award. If we factored out the speed from overclocking the game, would you still consider the character movement to be insanely fast enough that you'd consider it for a speedy award?

Yes, it's running at 1000 FPS. If you run it at a normal frame rate, would you consider it speedy?

Yes. The 1000 FPS part is an internal setting of the game. It's done for gaining some marginal advantages due to how the game engine works, as explained in the submission text. Apart from getting some slightly faster movements, the game is mostly the same of how is at 60 FPS, with the same loading times and duration of the animations. As a proof, compare with the RTA WR: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRQ7KQ-vGAw The main reason why the TAS is faster is thanks of the superhuman precision and reflexes that are far beyond any human attempt. In my opinion, the 1000 FPS setting doesn't overshadow the TASing merits, but does instead extend the TASing possibilities.

Uh, no. It is not an internal setting of the game. All I see in the game's options that tackles framerate is vsync. Enabling it caps the framerate at the monitor's refresh rate. Disabling it makes the game run as fast as the CPU and/or GPU can handle, which can wildly fluctuate. Rather, libTAS makes the game run at 1000 FPS, through the movie file.

I rewatched this to see what was going on. It has many parts where Kirby is moving quite fast, sometimes faster than the screen can scroll, and it makes good use of being in two places at once. I don't think I'd consider it award winning speed, but it is speedy at times. If you guys think so, I can see it being eligible.

In (minor) defense of my own King's Quest run: It's true that CPU speed settings affect how quickly the character is able to move. However with the increase of speed, there is a degree of control sacrificed. Movement changes are only possible approximately every 3 frames (using any CPU speed settings I tried). How far the character travels within each frame is what changes with CPU settings. In other words, King Graham moves farther in 1 frame at 20mhz than he does at 10mhz CPU speed. With the opportunity to change direction still mostly limited to every 3 frames, faster CPU speeds actually introduce a greater degree of TASing difficulty due to lost movement precision. So for this particular run, a degree of precision is lost to attain the speed it achieves. It's theoretically possible that faster (or possible even slower) CPU settings would yield a faster total run. A faster CPU speed may allow for even faster character movement, but further precision would be lost. This would however break the rule of using default JPC-rr settings unless documentation could be provided to show the game was designed for faster than default settings. A slower CPU speed may actually allow a faster total run as some movement precision would be gained by the slower CPU speed settings. If this gained precision allowed for fewer awkward movements through the run, the overall run may be shorter. Testing this could be quite tedious as it would likely require complete redos of the run to determine which is truly faster. (I'm somewhat open to this possibility, but have many other things on my plate at the moment).

My thoughts are (and they're all Linux games): [3842] Linux Axiom Verge by keylie in 27:44.38 - by the end of the game you're chaining multiple movement abilities at a pace far faster than any human can hope to keep up with. [3809] Linux Mari0 "Portal mappack, 1 player" by lexikiq & Masterjun in 03:05.23 - you can build up very high speed by flinging yourself through portals, even to the point of clipping through walls simply because you travel too fast. [3841] Linux Order of Twilight by lexikiq in 00:47.23 - teleport spamming moves Twilight far faster than any human can keep up with. (Does repeated teleporting count as fast movement, or does it have to be continuous and differentiable to count as 'speedy'?) [3827] Linux SteamWorld Dig 2 by keylie in 18:11.87 - has several physics glitches that produce absurd speed. re: Towerfall: My understanding is that the physics glitches still produce superhuman amounts of speed even at 60FPS, they just get slightly stronger at high FPSes. keylie produced a chart comparing how fast hyper jumps are at different FPSes here: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20479 And it looks like 1000FPS is only ~25% faster than 60FPS.

Since this hack fix the glitch "horizontal underflow" (aka teleport to the end of the level) Sonic travels the levels at very high speed, and you can feel the "speedy" sensations when you watch it purrs Nach

Speedy does not require the player to be moving fast continuously. The idea is that over the playable course of the game, there should be plenty of really fast movement. So if 1% of the playable sections was superfast, we wouldn't really consider it eligible. Something like 30% isn't necessarily award winning, but we can consider it eligible. This allows time for the player to get the necessary stuff to start moving fast, and can also include games where sections of the game some of that speed stuff cannot be used, or the game consists of multiple kinds of play where only some of them can allow super fast speed. Regarding just using a teleporter and calling it fast, I'd say no. But if there's clever use of teleporting to be two places at once and perform activities really quickly, we can consider that contributing towards being speedy in movement.

I see no reason why hacked games need to be excluded from this category as long as the hack isn't just there to make a regular game faster. Also adding: [3758] GG Sonic Labyrinth "best ending" by Zurggriff in 15:15.91 Reason: "While Sonic has an incredibly slow walking speed, there is plenty of super fast bouncing around that makes good use of the spindash" (Quoted from description, and the nature is unusual for a Sonic game). Also I expected that this game would be really impressive since even before the submission. EDIT: Adding Dragonfire (mentioned on the following post). I admit I hasn't watched the run until now.

Even I have nominated another game before, I'm once again forgetting something as always. Well, seconded, and the explanation for [3701] Coleco Dragonfire by Noxxa in 01:40.60 is: The character moves so fast that across "each screen" roughly 2 seconds each - some details may be missed for the first times (at least for me). EDIT: Looked for ratings, although the publication of Dragonfire shows Moons.

I dont think Dragonfire is a good choice only because it’s at the point of being downgraded to vault, considering that it has a rating of 5.3 for entertainment.

I wanted to nominate Dragonfire because of technique used for achieving the high moving speed. This game is known to be very hard and it's almost impossible for real-time attempts to run straight without having to stop on the bridge, while in the castle it's normally necessary to first take a look at the position of the items to loot, while being very careful about the dragon's attacks and the troll's sword. Not only the TAS grabs all the items without any delay, but it does also manipulate luck in order to get more favorable item arrangements for having to walk a shorter route.

So? If I bumped my rating up to 7 for entertainment (which is higher than your rating of a 6.5, which is also the highest rating), it still wouldn’t budge past a 6 (it would only budge if I gave a rating of 10). My rating is not why the ratings are low.
