About the run

Emulator used

VBA rerecording v23 svn217
(For some reason, the VBM desyncs on v23.5 or v23.6. Please use v23 svn232.)

Emulator setting

allow Left+Right/Up+Down

Game objective

  • Aims for fastest time
  • Abuses programming errors
  • Uses warps
  • Manipulates luck
Compared to the current published movie, this is an improvement of 12309 frames, or 3 minutes and 25.15 seconds.

Main improvements

  • Ignored items: Lizard Tail, Sylph Feather. Crushing Stone and Platinum Tip.
  • Optimized in Juste's leveling.
  • Changed the route after the leveling.

New tricks used

  • sticking into a L-shaped structure with floating condition
  • slipping trick
When Juste is slipping on a floor, you can reduce half of deceleration by mashing left/right key. It was discovered by Yuzuhara_3.
For further traditional tricks, check klmz's submission text.

The reason why I defeated Shadow

Juste could warp to 2 places from Shadow's room, but both of the places are far away from Maxim's room in castleA. Besides I can't perform quick-save once a boss battle begins till defeat it. (The condition will continue even if Juste warps to another place.) Therefore I concluded that defeating Shadow and resetting the game is the best route.

Thanks

  • Robert_Ordis and gocha: for their excellent Lua works. (1) (2)
  • Yuzuhara_3: for his discovering slipping trick.

Nahoc: Judging...
Nahoc: Accepting as an improvement over the previous movie.

Really cool run, bit difficult to follow what's going on due to the frequent warping. The pause screens are a bit of a shame too, especially in the final boss fight, but I liked the run nonetheless. Great improvement, and as impressive to watch as any HoD run, yes vote.

Wow, this is incredible. Skipping the Slyph Feather changes the movement a lot, since you're not doing as many whip launches from enemies. However, the change is well worth it, and it's great to see how much you could skip. The Pike Master fight was also very entertaining. Yes vote!
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.

I get stoned everytime I watch a run of this game. The palettes, animation, music and glitches are so weird, I have to ask myself: What were they thinking?! Other than that, voting yes!

Voted yes, although I find this the most boring Juste any% run yet. Mainly because it doesn't show as much of the game as before and doesn't get the opportunity to whip launch off enemies. Good improvement, but I think I'll stick with the all furniture run. I find that one much more entertaining.

I believe the ellipses in the movie description would be better suited as m-dashes (--). Just sayin'!
