I was wondering if I would be faster with the knowledge I have after completing the whole run, especially compared to the first few missions. Result for the first three missions is 159 frames faster: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1419189401/advwars2.vbm I still don't like the chopper movement at the end of Orange Dawn, it looks like it can be cut off. A lot of numerical computation... I presume they used a computer to do this, too. If you look at the right triangles on the circle, you can quickly see that (I would include a drawing if I could, but anyway) h² = 8(2r-8) h² + (2r-8)² = (60.3)² This gives r = 32.2163 and h = 21.2474 The shaded area is equal to (r² * arctan(h/(r-8)) - h*(r-8)) / 2, which is 116.47... 47º N 116º W is inside Idaho, and Boise was founded in 1863. In fact, even if Hawke triggers his CO Power (attacking the neotank is not enough to charge his Super CO Power) the rocket can still destroy the pipe in time. However, the animation for it is so long it's actually worth it taking the time to move the neotank back. (Indeed, that turns out to be 900 frames faster.) The Greens also protected the rockets from the chopper onslaught. --------------- As for the "day 9" thing, that is probably a symptom of failure at hex-editing. When you hex-edit something in, you have to go manually correcting everything that is out of time. I probably overlooked that day message...

I don't get how you did that sum there, but a simpler way would be to simply pick 2 vertical lines and 2 horizontal lines: 2 vertical lines: m choose 2 = m(m-1)/2 2 horizontal lines: n choose 2 = n(n-1)/2 Multiply it out, and you have your answer...

What triggers Hawke's COP is attacking the Neotank on Andy's base, so I guess that the only way to avoid it from triggering would be to run away with the neo on some turn before day 16. I'll see how faster it turns out to be...

OK, so it appears it's fairly easy to do Factory Blues in 10 days by shooting the pipe from the left with an artillery. Going for the airports, the earliest day you can get a shot at the pipe with a bomber is day 10, so I don't think that is a good choice. So... if anyone can do this in 9 days or less, please tell. I'm going to try a little bit more, but I fear for my sanity if I keep on playing this mission any longer!

3 missions on one WIP, and Two-Week Test must be the most elaborate strategy I've ever conceived for this run (not really). Factory Blues is up next, but I don't really have any ideas on how to approach it quickly...

Foul Play is done. On later thought, it might've been a better idea to do Silo Scramble rather than Show Stopper... Well, we'll see how it turns out. EDIT: Remind me to do things right the first time through... The old video with Show Stopper is here, in case it's needed later on.

If somebody didn't notice the sneaky editing of the first post, the new video completes Show Stopper and "nearly" completes Duty & Honor. There is little remaining, so by tomorrow that mission should probably be done... PS: Does anybody find it strange that those two missions alone are longer than the other 9 combined? PPS: Even if I don't complete this movie, perhaps this could go in tas history as the worst frame/real time ratio ever =P

This was posted in page 2 -- now that I finally found a good ROM, I can confirm it holds for the first two missions (not exactly 422 frames though). I'll use it from now on. When I finish hex-editing (if it's possible, that is), I'll edit the first post to add the new WIP. EDIT: Nitrodon was right, it seems. Hex-editing exactly 422 frames out makes it sync on the rom without the intro hack. I've updated the first post with the link.

The point originally was to show how bad such a rushed run would be, but I think Andy's Time turned out to be quite good, despite the C-Rank (getting S-Ranks was never the goal anyway, although I think it looks pretty). The only game of those I've played is Phoenix Wright, and I can say probably no. Unless there's some really odd sequence breaking glitch (which is hard to have in a novel game), it would be just watching the story pass. The whole point of the game is about figuring out the murders anyway, no reflexes involved (especially as you can't skip the story -- if you could then I might be interested on super-human speed choice making).

First, this is a long game. It can easily take 2+ hours, which is somewhat annoying. Second, this is a strategy game, which means that planning an 'optimal' strategy is a lot of work. And third, the constant button pressing makes this hard to TAS frame-perfectly. I think someone playing at, say, 10% speed would be able to finish a run quite easily (seeing as I took a week to beat it on normal speed), but I'm not sure if it would meet this site's standards on any of those three accounts (length, strategy and accuracy of playing).

OK, lots of things I didn't know about. First, the goal. I originally meant it to be like: Primary: Short number of turns Secondary: Shortest real-time, if it doesn't interfere with the primary goal I didn't quite factor S-Rank in it. We should decide whether a perfect run (S on all missions) or a fastest-at-all-costs run is faster. As we're in a TAS site, the sacrifice everything route does seem to be better. This entertainment/speed thing is very complicated in such a run... BTW, I didn't quite get what goroh meant by "waking" (on second thinking, I don't understand anything :P), however this does mean there are bad things on the first stage (which would mean a complete redoing of the thing. argh.) I will probably edit this post once I figure more things out. EDIT: After some testing with samurai's addresses, it seems that a star fills at around (or exactly) the 9000 G mark. The filling is exactly as Nitrodon said.

Some Fire Emblem-style cursor fiddling (hopefully non-noticeable, but you guys will probably see it) made the AI attack twice more, which gave me the SCO earlier than I'd expected (in fact, I had to redo the whole thing because I attacked the sub without realizing the meter was already full). Hi guys! I'm afraid i've not been able to work on this very much over this month, pretty much because I'm tired. Every time I wanted to do it, my sister had something to do and I had to stop. I don't know Python (don't like the concept of indenting as block syntax), so how do you actually use this from command line? Note how the perl version also does the parsing of arguments and intial invocation of the recursion.
You have to invoke it yourself, that is just the function definition. (Invoke it like f([1, 2, 3])) Parsing the arguments would take a bit more of work. At least, importing sys and invoking sys.argv, like:
