Can the fixed patch be uploaded to smbarena too?
Considering there are multiple identical results (save for slight changes) for, say, Rohrleitung Gate and The Relay, I believe the fixed patch can be uploaded as well. More than likely it'll end up with me creating an account and uploading it to the website because I have more of a knack for SMB1 hacks lol. (Just gotta find the right time to get to it. Just busy as usual...)

And kudos to him for taking the time to do so ^_^ It does beg the question though: should the top link (the Google Drive link) be updated to lead to the Internet Archive link? Or can it be left as is (I'll hopefully get to deleting the Drive link once I remove the file from my Drive, but I'm sure site administrators will handle it better than I can)? P.S. I could've probably asked to do the same for the other patches I uploaded for a few runs on my userfiles as well. ._.

Hey there, hiiliketas; welcome to TASVideos. (Nice name btw, glad you like tool-assisted speedruns ^_^) Looks like I got some work to do.
You wrote:

That's okay, that's why we have the forums and the Discord server where you can ask questions and get feedback on your work. Don't be afraid to ask too.
You then edited the submission notes and wrote:
how do i delete a tas
You can't delete submissions unfortunately. Submissions are for if you think a TAS is worthy enough to be published. You at least cancelled it, so there's some saving grace there; this is an incomplete playaround of course. In order to have a chance at publication, you'd need to either these two movies in terms of entertainment; I believe it's you need to be more entertaining or just as entertaining as one of the two movies to have yours be published. (I was actually typing this post when you cancelled in the middle of it apparently. ._.) Next time you want to upload some progress on your TAS, upload it to the Userfiles or ask feedback instead of making another submission.
And to reiterate what I said in another user's first submission, here's what I wrote:
  • Take some time to get to know your emulator and the tools it possesses, such as savestates, slowdowns, frame advance, TAStudio, etc.
  • Study the game you have in mind for a TAS, and learn about any oddities, secrets, or tricks it may have.
  • As Bigbass said, ask questions, either on the forum or in the Discord server; I can't stress this enough.
  • I don't think there's much else you can do for this game in particular... Maybe try TASing ROM hacks of the game instead? There's loads of them to choose from (not to mention there are other original games to choose from too, not just hacks).
  • If you think a run of yours is sloppy, then don't submit it. Upload it to the Userfiles instead.
  • Most important: All of this is to encourage you, not discourage you! So don't be scared about seeing this post because it feels like a lot. There's probably tens, if not hundreds of people that want to see you improve; I want to see you improve. I know that because I have to deal with handling submissions and runs correctly myself, just to make sure my runs are decent and abide by the rules. Take it slow if you have to; don't rush it. I like to think of it as "quality over quantity", in that better runs are better than more runs.
I hope this helps! ...again.

Never knew Arkanoid allowed a special controller to be used instead of a regular NES controller. This was awesome. Definitely voting Yes :)

Hi, On top of what the others have said before me, I would like to add that "glitchless" might not be the best idea for a new branch, mainly because it doesn't offer anything unique to Super Mario Bros. runs. You are now comparing yourself to this 21-year-old run that happens to be almost a minute faster than you; it has since been obsoleted thanks to the newly-found uses (at the time) of the walljump and wrong warp (in 8-4), the wrong warp in 4-2, the wall clip in 1-2, the flagpole glitch, and the full flagpole glitch in 8-2. Then it was simply pure optimization from there. (Sidenote: This is the latest "glitchless" run that I could find published on TASVideos. It still uses Left + Right for the moonwalk in the third room (of 8-4), but that's negligible as Bisqwit was actually waiting for the Piranha Plant in the correct pipe to go down. My point should still stand in that case.) There was a somewhat similar submission six months ago that banned the use of "Left + Right" (also known as "RTA Rules", in that the game is played under normal means; as if a superhuman was behind a normal NES controller).
Here's what I wrote:
"RTA Rules" or "No L + R" doesn't make for an interesting enough goal for a Super Mario Bros. run to be published here; if we had something like that (even if it's greatly optimized), then it'd be largely similar to HappyLee's original run. Worse yet, that's the fastest run of the game thus far, with no further improvements found since.
(...and here's the part where I drone on about optimization at its finest... @~@;)
Not to mention that in the submission, you wrote:
it's sloppy, but I'm happy enough to get a run out.
That's what we have the Userfiles for; anything that you feel is sloppy or not worthy of publication goes there. Heck, I still have quite a ways to go for mine. My recommendations:
  • Take some time to get to know your emulator and the tools it possesses, such as savestates, slowdowns, frame advance, TAStudio, etc.
  • Study the game you have in mind for a TAS, and learn about any oddities, secrets, or tricks it may have.

  • I don't think there's much else you can do for this game in particular... Maybe try TASing ROM hacks of the game instead? There's loads of them to choose from (not to mention there are other original games to choose from too, not just hacks).

Hopefully this helps (and that I didn't mess anything up). Not voting unfortunately.

I believe that's as far as the original hack goes, yes. I very much doubt there is something past the invisible wall in DONUT PLAINS 1. For 100%, there is never come back with no enemies (no use trying to perform the Item Swap glitch there) and an unchanged YELLOW SWITCH PALACE. Since YOSHI'S HOUSE in the hack is mostly the same as YOSHI'S ISLAND 2 in terms of enemies, maybe a game end glitch would be possible. I'm not holding my breath though. As far as optimization goes, it's probably just this oscillating speeds thing (especially the hopping glitch) and the fadeout lag that I barely had an understanding of; could probably save at least half a second on each level with them in mind. But I dunno, this was pretty much my only real-ish attempt at making a Super Mario World TAS; it was very basic too, so it's not like I was gonna make it somewhere with it lol.

Welcome to TASVideos, Shot313. You might wanna take a moment to look at this post and read what I've said. You surprisingly made an effort on this submission, which is not very often in first submissions, but as Spikestuff and I pointed out, your run is seemingly slower than the currently published run by at least one second. Look for any mistakes you may have made and try to match your efforts to those of the fastest run you can find, then beat it. I'm not sure where the slowdowns could be in this run compared to KingKappa and Denial140's. Given that they both use different versions of BizHawk (this run uses 2.3, the publication uses 2.9.1), it may be due to emulation differences. I could very much be wrong about that though (and probably haven't figured out yet that older versions of BizHawk are still acceptable to TASVideos as well). Also, I believe you submitted the extended input for the high score; for Super Mario Bros. Deluxe runs, it's usually on the last input where it ends. The extended high score input can serve as an additional download. Remember, all of this is to encourage you to improve and do better, not to discourage you. I know that at least I wanna see you improve, and I'm sure there's probably several others that feel the same. Hopefully. Nonetheless... Ask questions, get with staff, and request feedback of your run before submitting. Use the userfiles if you're certain that this run is not up to standards for publication (e.g. for WIPs). Go again when you've optimized all you can... I won't be voting for now though. P.S.: There hasn't been an optimized "warpless" or "challenge mode" submission for this game yet... Maybe you could try your hand at one of these? Just a thought.
Here is an overlay comparison (click here) that I made with not much effort (admittingly), but you should be able to see the differences between the two runs. Red: This run Blue: [6277] GBC Super Mario Bros. Deluxe "warps" by KingKappa & Denial140 in 04:57.45 Both clips are aligned so that Mario in both runs starts moving in World 1-1 at the same time. Yes, this comparison could be better. It's not perfect, but whatever works.

Hmm. I'm struggling to come up with a reason why he's continuing forward with the disruption even though he was trying to "help". This might be nosy of me to try to find out why, but it may have to do with a certain condition he might have, judging from his first edits on his homepage... But really, the main thing to note here is that Logan got banned for his disruptive behavior on the Discord server, also resulting in his ban on the site overall. It definitely doesn't matter whether it's on the official forums or in other sites, disruptive behavior is still disruptive behavior. (At least I think that's what it is, right?) I can only hope that Logan eventually recovers, even if it'll be years from now. Myself, I don't like to get dragged in to any arguments, and so if that's the case, I prefer to keep my distance and not continue to participate so that I don't say things that shouldn't be said. And I'm a bit of a shy person, but at least I'm kind-hearted about it, and I'm also doing my best to stay cautious when doing or saying things. Just wanted to put this up for clarification and for my stance on Logan's case; I believe he was wrong for trying to step in and "help", and that it would've been best if he backed out of the conversation.

I'm looking over the submissions that were rejected for trolling reasons, and I noticed that these three submissions were previously rejected because they were submitted using alt accounts (there may be a couple more that I missed). This submission falls under the "unauthorized" category... Perhaps the rejection reason, either for this submission or the other three mentioned earlier, could be updated for the sake of consistency. Just my opinion though.

Definitely a yes vote from me. :) A couple of thoughts though:
  • 2.1: Maybe you can hit the flagpole lower, just to the point that Mario is at 24 horizontal speed when he lands.
  • 7.1: I believe it's possible to perform a FPG along with the screen-wrap; you just need to avoid being all the way to the right when doing so. These two I think could make for improvements in your run, but I could be wrong.
That is all; great efforts otherwise!

IPS patch download here (it's linked on the YT video).
Ooh, a Super Mario Bros. ROM hack! And I'd say you picked a pretty good one at that. I presume you must be new here; welcome! You picked a popular game (or, well... a hack of) to make a tool-assisted speedrun out of. From what I've seen, that must've been everyone's first game in mind when they want to make TASes, haha~ 😊 I'd just like to say that this is a very good effort compared to some of the others that I've seen in recent submissions. Although, I did see some unnecessary slowdowns here and there, but I'd also like to point out that you missed a couple of key techniques that a lot of SMB TASes use nowadays: fast starting accel and flagpole glitch (FPG). You even got fireworks on a couple levels, which slowed you down a bit; these can be easily avoided. The simple running around without doing anything fancy hasn't really impressed me either. I promise that none of this is meant to discourage you from making any further submissions; I'm saying this is great for a first submission here. However, I encourage you to improve on this effort; optimize this to the best of your ability. You don't have to be 100% perfect, just don't make the mistakes obvious. Try new tricks, check the game resources page if you need to, and review your emulator tools before having another go. Again, you picked a good hack to make a TAS out of, and I'd like to see it published. I could even make one myself if I had time and weren't so busy with life, who knows? Just try to optimize all you can in your run, ask questions if you have any (maybe even get in contact with other SMB1 TASers if you can), then submit your run once you've ironed out all the possible mistakes. That said, I'll be voting Meh based on entertainment. Sorry...

(redo) (with HappyLee and w7n) - I'm currently assisting with finding improvements before the boss. On hold; we're currently struggling to confirm that we have the fastest route. Some debugging may also help with finding glitch exits, but neither of us are experts in that field. - Record my older TASes (excluding any obsolete TASes) and upload to YouTube. - Pretty busy at the moment... Hey! While I don't prefer TASing Sonic the Hedgehog ROM hacks anymore (sorry to say 😞), I managed to find that selbi released a seventh version of his popular hack, Sonic ERaZor, after eight years since the last release. I thought I'd share a few interesting TASes as well... (If that's alright with everyone here) Game skip run by Tuffcracker (Sonic EraZor, sixth release): Link to video Sonic ERaZor 7 (latest release) "Game skip" run (fake ending) by Доминик1: Link to video "Frantic, 100%" run by Tuffcracker: Link to video "Casual, 100%" run by Доминик1: Link to video Maybe the hack could be publication-worthy with these runs? Who knows?

There's a lot of information in this thread to take in... But I'd just like to say that I enjoyed my time here on the site, and I still do. After reading ikuyo's initial post, I guess I'm a bit concerned about its future too. I don't know what exactly to do to help resolve even a little bit of the situation, but at the same time, I don't wanna make it look like I don't care either.
  • I enjoy my time as a player, making SMB TASes as I go. I don't feel like I'd see myself fit as an active staff member, especially now that I'm busy with life as we know it.
  • I don't wanna fill the site with a bunch of Super Mario Bros. Game Genie and ROM hack TASes, even if just one out of the 99+ runs already featured on the site is of decent quality to be featured on the TASVideosChannel. Because then, what would TASVideos be at this point? Another NESVideos branding? SMBVideos even? Maybe that'd be best suited as its own spinoff instead...
  • Yes, there's the occasional argument and mistreatment here and there, and I'm against this kind of hostility overall. It makes me sad :( But... It's in our nature to have creative differences about things around here, so I guess maybe that part I can understand. Just my opinion but I'd rather see a lot less of it on the site these days 😭
I understand the staff here is more than willing to make the necessary changes to actually make TASVideos feel more welcoming and have enough breathing room, and I encourage that. I only wish I knew what the problem(s) actually was regarding this site. Again, this is a lot of information that I'm seeing on the thread, and I'm not sure if I 100% understand all of it. But I think what I can get out of it is...
  • Various YouTubers (me included) have the software and technology to make and upload encodes of their own tool-assisted speedruns, even if they're not of high quality. I guess this would have to be for the sake of being able to see what a particular run looks like.
  • TASVideos has been a bit more lenient on what can and can't be published; I think I can see that being a reason you've been getting more submissions than usual... Or maybe it's because there have been more users making submissions and sending them your way? Maybe. But I get it, you want to give potential TASers the freedom to showcase their work and get it published, especially considering there are those with inadequate technology to make the encodes. But considering the amount of submissions, it's unfortunate that you won't be able to make it through all of them and (for once) have a cleaned-out submission cache.
I don't even think I got everything right; there were probably a few pointers that I'm missing. I'm not sure if this says much either (besides the part about arguments and mistreating the site) or if any of what I said makes sense, but it's just my take on things right now.

Probably best Kirby's Adventure TAS since TASeditor's run :^) I'm curious to see how much of the any% run can be improved. I wouldn't know though, I'm not an expert in that game :c Yes vote

I've known The Impossible Quiz 2 (and the rest of the TIQ series) for quite some time, so I'm surprised there was a TAS of it that came out; pretty neat! (I miss TIQ :c I wish there was more after TIQB Chapter 3 and The Impossible Quizmas.) That said, I believe there are a couple of questionable spots in the game that Mike may have missed (Marked as spoilers just to be safe): "Crime is a shit that needs wiping up" and lol micropenis in Question 56 and Spidermonkey's Greatest Shits in Question 102 (hard to see though, I think) So maybe the movie could have a warning for crude language and... that thing, as well. YouTube's pretty sensitive about what is and isn't allowed on their platform these days... Just my opinion, so make of it what you will. Also looking forward to a 100% (A* = PERFECT!) run eventually.

Hey MQ5PIVER, I'd like to make it clear that according to the others that have commented before me, your movie appears to be playing in a suboptimal manner (meaning not in the fastest methods possible), and that your goal is very unclear. FIRST. Your submitted goal is "die", yet (according to Emil_Borg) you chose to get all Star Coins in World 1-1 (akin to a 100% run), then touch a Goomba in World 1-2.
If the goal was to actually lose a life as fast as possible, it would very much be possible to simply touch the first Goomba in World 1-1; even faster to just enter the level and stop input from here. If the goal was to get a game over, you'd have to repeat the above actions four more times.
Either way, both goals are arbitrary and cannot deem any potential runs with those goals in mind to be publishable. SECOND. Your run seems to be sloppy and suboptimal according to the comments I've read for this submission. I don't have much knowledge in New Super Mario Bros., but I can tell you that it definitely needs improvements. While in the submission menu it mentions that the emulator used is "2021", I can see that you used BizHawk after downloading the ZIP and extracting it (according to the file that was in the ZIP file). You'll want to spend more time making use of its emulator tools, including savestates, rewinds, frame-by-frame advances, and especially TAStudio. Also, I'd like for you to make a note on these two movies of this game, take a look at them; notice the tricks they use and the optimal movements they make. You could learn a thing or two. And if this game isn't for you, there's plenty more to choose from. Just make sure your run (whatever game it may be of) is optimized to its fullest. THIRD, and this is really a minor thing (just for me anyway). Your submission text is the default dummy text, and I believe that has been left unchanged for many years, if not since the site was first founded. This dummy text is supposed to form a start for what you wanna say about your run, the game, the stages/levels/world, and any potential tricks or glitches you perform. But honestly, just leaving it blank, with dummy text, and/or with little to no information about the run doesn't leave a good impression; viewers can have trouble understanding what your run is about. Myself, I like to read about the run that I'm viewing and, if there is a video of the run available, watch it. Concerning your location (Yes, I took a peek at your profile), I feel that English isn't your first language. You are perfectly fine to express your opinions in whatever language you prefer, but in either case, you'll want to ask questions and get feedback on your future efforts. Right now, however, after all that I've said, I don't think this run has potential, sorry. (Not voting.)

This is a non-optimal TAS of SMB
Sorry dude but hey, you said it yourself. This is non-optimal, and yet you're still submitting it. I don't wanna sound rude or anything (especially knowing this is your first submission), but this isn't the right place to upload your run. I'd also like to add that "RTA Rules" or "No L + R" doesn't make for an interesting enough goal for a Super Mario Bros. run to be published here; if we had something like that (even if it's greatly optimized), then it'd be largely similar to HappyLee's original run. Worse yet, that's the fastest run of the game thus far, with no further improvements found since. Just wanna go ahead and echo what Spikestuff said: The original Super Mario Bros. is undoubtedly a popular choice for first-time TASers, especially those who prefer simpler games to make runs of. But there may be other games that could be worth trying as well... Make sure you're used to the tools and features available in your emulator (savestates, slowdowns, rewinds, and TASStudio) and upload your future efforts to userfiles. And please, ask questions... ask! if you have any at all. Don't just wing it with another submission and it turns out to be so-so... If you have a Discord account, there is a dedicated server where you can do so. I just wanna point out by the way after all this, that this is not meant to discourage or scare you! This is just me giving you advice on your future accomplishments. Believe me, even I have to check and double-check every so often to make sure my runs are in tip-top shape. Go again when you've optimized all you can; I'll refrain from voting for now, though.

Same as what Spikestuff said just now, your run plays through 1-1 to 8-4 the same as HappyLee's "warps" TAS. I'm pretty sure it doesn't offer anything new besides the 1-2 warp and the 8-3 FPG, but even then, I feel like these are subtle differences. You say this hack offers the following:
Lost Levels worlds (there are poison mushrooms, red piranha plants, upside-down red piranha plants, upside-down pipes, wind, a "Luigi Game" instead of a multiplayer mode, with Lost-Levels Luigi physics
Why not go through the rest of the game without warps and showcase those instead? On another note, this run is simply "straightforward", pretty much no entertainment whatsoever. I could vote "No" for that alone, but since you showed that it was possible to get a faster 1-2 warp and a 8-3 FPG, perhaps now I should refrain from voting just to avoid discouraging you.

Another thing I wanted to bring up as well: There is a chance that Guile may not do the Flash Kick when you first enter the room (down or up) after restarting; he may just do a simple jumping kick instead. Flash Kick, for comparison:
