I've been routing and preparing to make a "save setup" movie. As I mentioned before, a cheat code is absolutely required to unlock some of the machine parts. So I figure I'll need a special exception from the verifier. I'm looking through Dolphin cheats and there doesn't seem to be a code that only unlocks the exclusive parts..

It's an action replay code that needs to be added in the first tab.

What goal (category) are you planning to use in your movie?

Individual level time attack runs. The gameplay category would be 100% max speed, though I occasionally make snaking TASes too

Individual levels are currently not supported for publication, only completed game movies. Single-level movies can still go to Wiki: Playground.

I have a question: Imagine that there is a game where the VERY last action of the game is impossible to do because of an emulation issue (A comparison would be something like not being able to jump to the last star in Super Mario 64 because of an emulation issue). Would the game still be publishable if that was the case?

I accepted #9090: Natetheman223's GC Spider-Man 2 "swingless" in 52:01.68 despite a missing ending because normally the game plays fine in Dolphin, and we don't even know if what happened was an emulation glitch or a glitch in the game itself, and checking that would be very hard. But when the game can't be completed at all, it's easier to know which side the problem is on, and yeah you're even saying that it's an emulation issue, and it dramatically affects gameplay. Which game is it anyway? We allowed custom builds of some emulators or modified games that overcome emulation issues if authors can't currently fix them. Or maybe it's possible to push for a proper fix.

WarioWare Gold. The final input of the final boss is a blowing input, which isn't currently supported, rendering the completion of the game's campaign mode impossible

Are you using BizHawk? If so, it supports mic-volume as one of the inputs. Wouldn't blowing into the DS be activating the microphone? Or is there some other sensor blowing impacted?

i know it's mostly player choice: naruto clash of ninja a fighting game for GC has 3 difficulties and a 4th unlockable difficulty, should a story mode TAS be done on diffiulty 3? i really wanna do it on 4th the real hardest because enemies counter attack more and showcases more of the game interactions not just the best combo or strat, but more adaptation!
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

The 4th difficulty is probably fine. Depending on how it’s unlocked would likely determine how it’s published/categorized. In my opinion: If it’s unlocked with a code, it’s its own valid power-on based branch separate from the other difficulty branches. If it’s unlocked via a prior playthrough, it’d be an SRAM start based run and should still be valid.

That doesn't answer the question of which emulator you're using.

Does it work in standalone Citra?

It does, kinda. It allows you to at least complete it, but it's still very limited compared to DS microphone support for instance

Is there a ticket for this feature in the bizhawk repo? If not, makes sense to create one, so there's incentive, because at least one game is not tasable without it (likely more).

It's #4078.
I contribute to BizHawk as Linux/cross-platform lead, testing and automation lead, and UI designer. This year, I'm experimenting with streaming BizHawk development on Twitch. nope Links to find me elsewhere and to some of my side projects are on my personal site. I will respond on Discord faster than to PMs on this site.
Hey look buddy, I'm an engineer. That means I solve problems. Not problems like "What is software," because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy. I solve practical problems. For instance, how am I gonna stop some high-wattage thread-ripping monster of a CPU dead in its tracks? The answer: use code. And if that don't work? Use more code.

I've submitted a TAS of Pokemon Black. This is an "Any%" run, defined under the same ruleset as RTA. Like other Pokemon games, the game features a "Round 2" for the Elite 4 and Champion. However, most Pokemon games, unlike FireRed/LeafGreen, do not actually place any extra conditions in order to fight this round 2, other than the possible pseudo-requirement of getting better Pokemon due to the levels jumping up dramatically. As such, you can just directly fly back to the Pokemon League and immediately fight the harder second round of the Elite 4 and Champion. In this game too, round 2 is slightly more interesting as it is the only time you fight the Champion, as he is not fought in round 1, due to plot reasons, and is also the only time you would enter the Hall Of Fame that traditionally ends Pokemon runs. However, even with this... Round 2 ends up only being 5 extra fights after Any%, leading to a potentially nearly identical TAS compared to one purely aimed at Any%. However, also despite this, Round 2 has extremely interesting routing, and is possibly a miracle if a run aimed for Any% can even complete Round 2, due to the massive level difference. I've already made such a round 2 TAS, continued directly off my Any% run. I would want to possibly submit it, however, the run has 2 rather conflicting goals.
  1. A goal for this run is to be continued directly off an optimized Any% run, not having some arbitrary amount of time to just overlevel my own Pokemon before completing Any%, as that would trivialize the goal.
  2. A goal for this run is not be a new definition of "Any%", I do not want such a run to just "obsolete" my Any% run, despite the beginning of it just being identical. Any% could very well end up developing strategies which result in being unable to complete "Round 2" (noting that my own Any% run is more a miracle in being able to beat Round 2 due to the massive level difference).
For the second goal, I wouldn't particularly mind if this run was changed so it just start off SRAM (would need some time to resync but that's somewhat trivial), so the content of the entire movie is rather the unique round 2 fights. However, that of course starts conflicting with the first goal, since the goal is again to not have some arbitrary amount of time "preparing" for Round 2 (since that trivializes the goal). Or in another way: the goal requires optimizing the verification movie along with the save anchored movie, as if the verification movie is "suboptimal" that can compromise the routing potential of the final goal. Would this goal be able to be ensured in such a case, and comparisions for obsoletion made with consideration with the verification movie? If such a category including entire Any% within the submitted movie does not result in obsoleting pure Any%, I would not mind too much if I just submit my movie as is, with Any% included. However, I would want it to end up potentially having just an encode for just the "unique" Round 2 fights (i.e. everything after the soft reset after first round of credits). Would this be able to be done, even if as some secondary encode.

a bunch of stuff about a round 2 run
Seems to me that an otherwise any % + round 2 TAS would be fine as a separate branch from a base any % run. I’d say that it could be argued as standard class, but making it Alternative class would make an easier distinction from the baseline run; this would also be a way to ideally prevent obsoletion issues. As far as starting point, i understand the concern about not only considering the post any% content from an optimization standpoint, so it might be better to consider doing the entire run from power-on instead of doing an SRAM start. As far as an encode that just shows the round 2 portion: I don’t see why it would be a problem to have that as a secondary encode. We could even potentially have it be the main encode with the full run be an alternate encode, but that ultimate decision would probably fall to the publishing team. These are my thoughts, I think it would be good for order judges to weigh in as well.

What's the total duration of the final movie that includes round 2, from power on and without sram?

I have difficulties to make decisions about obsoleting [2657] PSX Castlevania: Symphony of the Night "pacifist, low level" by ForgoneMoose in 21:08.62 I'll try to be specific; The pub movie does 5 kills (gaibon/slogra/doppleganger/venus/dracula), and use replay mode (dirty sram), the reason for this is to acquire the duplicator and make a long chain of Heart Refresh at the end to skip shaft boss, without that it would be 6 kills (and lot faster as well). Now im planning on using a different version of the game (the original jp release) that allow to skip shaft without the long chain of Heart Refresh due to a bug present only in this version, and reduce kills to 3 (doppleganger/sword master/dracula) because you dont need to kill anymore the venus. Because I dont need anymore the duplicator at the end, should I not use dirty sram? This does have multiple consequences in term of routing and/or speed, aside the duplicator use for skiping shaft, it enable to buy the shurikens (infinite uses) to kill dracula quicker or replinish mana. If I forgo sram usage, killing dracula will be notacibly slower, it will also force me to go trough at least 4 dialogues sequences, they can only be skip with replay mode and they ammount for several minutes (more than 5). I dont really believe having a pub with and without replay mode would make much sence (for a pacifist run anyway), the gameplay differences would be relativly small aside the extra time spent to kill dracula but there is some differences. That been sayd if it helps in the decision making, I could make a seperate movie for both options if thats the best course of action, but it is time consuming. Lastly, the current pub is labeled as "pacifist - low level", while my movie will have less kill, it will also have higher level/exp gain, does this mean the current pub could potentially been a seperate branch on its own? or should this sub-category "low level" just go away ? (just to be clear, this would mean theres room for obsoleting it with a 4 kills run on usa version). Any guidance will be much appreciated

Hello. https://youtu.be/ClFSXWVz0i4?feature=shared Well, this is a TAS for X5 'Extreme Collect', and I thought of a route that should be faster. But that route would make me lose probably one power-up part, and to be exact, it's Matterex's. Would this route still be valid for Extreme Collect?

For just a dozen minutes in a 3 hour movie, I think nobody will complain if it's just included in the main run. If it was like an extra hour we could have it as a separate branch and call it something like "both rounds". but for such a short addition I think it's fine to include.
