UPDATE: Got the encoder to work obviously, just had to add an extension in the settings. Also had to redo in the game's original frame rate because I had libTAS set wrong.
Thought it might be interesting to TAS one of those point&click escape games, since they're so fast. I feel like this turned out kind of funny, although it does have some animations it is fairly short. I couldn't figure out how to get save states to work until I finished the project (the -g gl command seems to do it), so I had to do some planning (which didn't always work because the animations' scroll speed is inconsistent, requiring me to wait for the whole 200-frame intro to play out over and over). But that's at least exciting for any of my future projects, whatever those might be.
Sync instructions:
- Set the scale option in your system's Display settings to 200%. Otherwise, Ruffle's header will be a different size. DO NOT add “no-gui” into the Command Options field.
- Set Video > Screen Resolution to Common 1920x1080.
- Add "--width 1440 --height 1080" to the field "Command-line options".
- Until this is updated, use the alternative file linked in the replies.
- Set the FPS to 32, and make sure "Don't Enforce Movie Settings" is checked.
- Game is available on Flashpoint Database.

nymx: Claiming for judging.
nymx: Replacing with an updated movie that should correct the frame-rate issue, begin mentioned.
nymx: Setting to "Needs More Info", while I wait for a sync confirmation.
nymx: Thanks to mohoc for the sync verification. Now that we have that, I can continue.
This run is to the point and doesn't appear to have any issues. From all the runs that I could find...this one responds as a TAS should.
Accepting.
nymx: Seems that a bit of confusion set in...I wasn't sure that a new improvement was really being tossed around. So...here the improvement that Spikestuff pointed me out to.
nymx: I'm out. There is too much going on here. I don't have an answer to the FPS issue. I'm going to leave this to someone who has more experience with LibTAS.

This title runs at 32fps, the submitted file is 24fps. Even with the info on how to grab the TAS of this game does not sync. Please for future reference don't resize the game for the submission, do that as an alternative file please.

That seems like a pretty unusual framerate. From my understanding, the standards are 60, 50, 30 and 24. Not exactly 32. No wonder the scrolling is inconsistent then! Also, with out mouse scaling as an explicitly coded feature yet I don't know how else I would make this TAS hd (other than re-doing the entire thing in HD, or multiplying all the key frames with HD.

Hi! I just tried to test out the downloaded file. I thought this was fixed when I was playing the game to see where things were, I noticed there was stray save data which made Continue be where Play was on the title screen. I fixed that temporarily by having it click "New Game" instead. Also, if anyone has problems with it desyncing later, I noticed the inputs were slightly misaligned all of a sudden, and that turned out to be because I changed my display scale from 200% to 100%. It seems like Ruffle's menu bar is included in the pixel coords, and its height depends on that.

Doesn't resolve the framerate issue.

Right, that should do it! So I've finally redone this project. Apart from how I got save states to work, the room scrolling and other animations are much more consistent than before, where on most frames it would move a certain amount, but sometimes it would move twice that much. Of course that is because LibTAS was set to 24FPS, even though the game was built for 32 (which again is weirdly specific). So for every 3 frames of the LibTAS animation, I would "randomly" see the game move 2 frames and chocked this up to it being a flash game. So now I don't get that janky (1) (2) (3,4) (5) (6) (7,8), but (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7) (8), as it should be. From now on I will use Ruffle to make sure I have LibTAS set up right. Oh, and here's the link: https://tasvideos.org/UserFiles/Info/638710464008805226

Even though I have replaced the movie file (without concern, mainly because the existing one wasn't usable anyway), I am not able to verify it. If someone can do so, I can go ahead and take care of this submission. Thanks.

Here's the info from a uname command as listed on libTAS page. Linux curhob-HP-Spectre-x360-Convertible-15t-eb100 6.8.0-50-generic #51~22.04.1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu Nov 21 12:03:03 UTC 2 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS Release: 22.04 Codename: jammy If this helps, I also noticed that leaving the screen resolution setting on "Native" doesn't allow it to sync either, because I set Video > Screen Resolution to Common 1920x1080.

Just checking back to see if anyone can do a "Sync Verification" on this new movie. The new movie has been replaced.

I’ve added several sync instructions since the original post, so you might consider checking that you’ve tried them all.

Uh-- there's a userfile that's faster than this that's been out for a few days now: User movie #638716474753426825 Which also has its own similar issue.

There were some blank frames at the very end. Here is a cropped version: User movie #638721413969743061

Uh no, that's two different authors. This is no longer curhob's movie, it's now BlackWinnerYoshi's, and returns to the issue of framerate.

Ok...this submission has gotten out of control. I placed this on delayed, because I wanted to think this over before I made a comment. First off, from the beginning...we have had conflicting movie files passed around. Because we have members that are able to perform specific tasks, I have taken advantage of their efforts without having to create an environment for me to test in. So thanks to mohoc and Spikestuff for helping out. (Yes...I will be creating one soon for my own independence.) Second, I want to use this thread to communicate any updates and changes that will help move this submission towards publication. I've taken the word of our members, and we now have a few problems to resolve. Mixed movie files and new or combined authors. Let's start with this...curhob. I need for you to clarify your involvement with the 960 frame movie. Are you working with BlackWinnerYoshi? If so, you need to specify that here. If not, then your submission has been beaten, and the point of this submission has been quelled...unless BlackWinnerYoshi was participating in clearing up the FPS debacle. So let's clear this up first, before we proceed.

That assumption was based on me mistyping as I failed to state in my comment here mentioning that it was done by a different user. BlackWinnerYoshi could've (and most likely did) base their input on what curhob created, and mirrored that, just at a different rate, also at a resolution that isn't a pain to sync to. However that being said I made it clear both on that userfile's comments, and on here that there's still the big elephant in the room being the framerate being incorrect. Even if we accepted the 1000fps it does not scale with 32fps that the title has. At the end of it, it's a flash title and we are expected to respect that framerate.

Thank you and yes...the FPS is the big hurdle.

Hi. First off, this movie appears to be faster on the video, but I have tried it, it’s at the same 32FPS rate, and it’s 1000 frames long, not 960. According to Stats for Nerds on youtube, the video encode from blackwinner is in 60 fps, suggesting that it has been run through video editing software. Which TASvideos also does, but since the game doesn’t have any sound effects other than the music, it seems like it would be fairly easy to just speed the video up from where the music starts and still play that at normal speed. Spikestuff, as you said it seems like blackwinner based this on my movie, and there only seems to be a few things different - specifically where I had done them faster, like grabbing the hanger from Clothes Closet after the animation instead of during, as I had, possibly to make it seem like a unique redo when most of it is obviously the same sequence I created. The movie is at a normal resolution though, whereas mine is 1440 x 1080. So I don’t know how to scale those mouse values automatically in a way that would sync since this is my 2nd tas, maybe Blackwinner does but I don’t know. As for the FPS, I used Ruffle to check the movie info and the game specifically runs 32 fps, just like my most recent submission is. I wasn’t sure how to incorporate that into the movie settings though but if you enable Don’t enforce movie settings, along with the other instructions I’ve added into the main description of this topic it should work.
