Nangoku Shōnen Papuwa-kun is a pretty obscure platforming game for Super Famicom that is based off of an Anime with the same name. I finished this project back in late 2018 but never ended up submitting it to TASVideos so I am not sure about most specifics anymore but gladly I decided to commentate over a recording of the TAS which explains some of the things that are happening in the video.
Some things to note are that this games proportion between actual gameplay and cutscenes is rather balanced in which seemingly half of the time during this TAS you are standing around watching cutscenes. This and the fact that this game is poorly optimized and lags a lot in most places make this a rather unimpressive TAS to watch. On top of that most bosses are essentially autoscrollers where you wait for their attack cycles to end after every single hit. If it had more actual gameplay this could have been a treat to watch otherwise since the parts where you are actually playing the levels are really fun.

This run looks clearly better than the one at nicovideo. Every level is a few seconds faster, movement is better, there are some new tricks. Some cutscenes are longer, which is a known thing when comparing bsnes with snes9x.
Feedback was mostly good. Since there's a lot of cutscenes in this game, I made a cutsceneless encode. Probably worth linking it in the publication description, alongside the author's commentary video (see above).

English translation for the name is “Southern Boy Papuwa” It’s based off a manga serialized by Enix in their shounen manga magazine. It had a anime adaptation in 1992-1995 with 42 episodes.

These techniques are not overused in this submitted tas. I've started liking this submitted tas when I watched a 1-2 boss battle. Unlike a tas on nicovideo, the boss was killed without Ganma Cannon. It's very impressive. Over six minuites improvement from nicovideo's tas is an enough reason for me to vote yes. I hope English subtitles of text messages are added, but if you understand this game deeply, you need to know not only an original manga/anime but also customs and specialties at several parts of Japan.

From what I remember I pretty much only used the dive kick when I was air bound and didn't have much forward momentum at which it was faster to dive kick into slide to build up some. If you mean the upwards flip out of a slide with the "Moonsault Kick" then that option was pretty much only used in very rare occasions late into the TAS to save a couple frames as otherwise it is a very slow technique. I actually used the Japanese TAS as a reference whenever I finished a level to see if they did something that I was not aware off which was actually the case in 4-2 where hitting the snail exchanged the initial dialogue with another one that was shorter and thus allowed me to leave the level earlier.

Yes, I just translated official names literally. ダイビングトゥキック -> Diving Toe Kick ムーンサルトキック -> Moonsault Kick
if you understand this game deeply, you need to know not only an original manga/anime but also customs and specialties at several parts of Japan.
Plus, there are several characters who are thought as prototypes in Dragon Quest: 4-koma Manga Gekijou Series.

Yeah, that is pretty much what I said. The gameplay to cutscene ratio is pretty much even for this game. If only they decided to focus more on the actual levels and making the bosses non autoscrollers this could have been a much better watch.

The plot looks like it should be pretty crazy for this game, especially when you get the fish wearing tights and the pink snail. That kept me entertained even when I didn't know what the story was saying. Some nice action as well makes this a Yes for me. Subtitles would be awesome, but I understand if that's too much work. There is a fan translation of this ROM that could probably be used to help.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... Cool TAS! I liked all of the slide and kick action done, and while the dialouge was a tad slow, the plot being wacky as it was I feel cancelled that out. The commentary made it even better too. Very good job too on optimization! Though Vaultable, I do think that this is perhaps entertaining enough for Moons (given 0/5/1 votes and 4/1 positive/negative feedback). I definitely encourage other people to give a watch!

You can but you would need to stay on the worm much longer in order to gain the needed height. Basically the worm acts like a spring. By jumping off of it immediately you can ascend much quicker.
