Movie Goals

  • Beating the game without killing anyone except bosses and mid-bosses. Well, except using the foots...

About the movie

This is a pacifist version of the Game Boy version of Contra: The Alien Wars. Well, there are some enemies which could not be avoided to kill, but I didn't kill them intentionally! Don't you believe me? Look, I didn't even use a weapon to do that. I just accidentally stepped on a couple of them, accidentally made one fall into abyss, accidentally enabled some landmines... Some even exploded by themselves. What fault do I have? :)

Memory: Optimization appears good, no noticeable mistakes.
The goal of pacifist is far from uncommon for Contra games and it appears to still be received well here, though there wasn't exactly a lot of feedback. People seemed to still be ok with the enemies that self-destructed in some way as well and I think that is acceptable within a pacifist definition.

Clearly because they dont want this movie to be published. /s For real though, I know some enemies are impossible to jump over, since the ground turrets explode as soon as you jump on them. It’s very strange.

The enemies in level 2 explode when the game loads the "turret" enemy, because the game needs to use many graphic sprites for that enemy's bullets, and the Game Boy hardware can display up to 40 sprites at the same time. Well, the programmmers could have come up with some advanced techniques for overcoming this limitation, but it's clear that they preferred a simpler solution. Apart from that, there are other enemies dying due to landmines that explode because I stepped on them. In some cases this is unavoidable.

LOL EDIT: I figured I could improve boss of level 4 and 5... Could this submission be set to delayed please? I'm not sure when I will be able to provide the improved movie file.

Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.
