So they finally released a trailer for the Sonic movie,
I have no idea where to start with this one. Im looking at this from every angle and I cant figure out where it starts and where it ends.

I guess the main issue I really have with the sonic model is the eyes.
Sonic has really big eyes, which is why his head seems so big. because they are using eyes that are not that big, we're left with this empty space on his forhead. it really is unsettling.
remember that someone has designed and animated this character, and somehow didnt think it was a bad idea.

That’s another thing that bugs me. Why not just use the original character model and just make that look realistic.

There is this mindset that if something is animated, then it's probably "just for kids," and some people would lose interest. I believe this is mainly why live-action Smurfs movies made more money than the animated one that came out just a couple of years ago, despite that that one was better reviewed.
As far as I can tell, the producers don't give a rat's ass about how well their films are criticized, but how much money it can make. This is why Illumination Entertainment are still a thing, because even though there movies are bad, they make a butt-load of money, so they keep doing the same formula over and over again.
This seems no different from this Sonic movie. You can tell this one had "producers trying to pander to the lowest common denominator" written all over it.
First thoughts: It's an abomination, kill it with fire!
Now: At least it makes for some good memes

The new design for sonic has been revealed.
Initial reaction: I think it’s a major improvement. Not only was the character design better, but the tone is much more comical, which is much more fitting for the character.

So I watched the movie last night. It honestly wasn’t bad, at the same time there wasn’t anything groundbreaking about it. And that’s really all I can ask for. The entire movie is pretty simple in its plot and keeps things relatively small scale.
I think this movie would have been a whole lot worse if they kept the original sonic design, because the newest design is so much more appealing to look at. While it would be funny to watch the movie with the original design (and it would be awesome if they released a cut of the movie with the original design), I would much rather have a memorable character design used for the final product rather than a realistic Sanic.
I think this movie will make Sonic fans happy, but make sure you dont have super high expectations going into it. It’s a movie about a video game character, it’s not gonna be the next Citizen Kane, or another Parasite.

It seems that it has become the most successful video game based movie in its opening weekend (surpassing the previous record holder, Detective Pikachu), and I think even its first week.
It's nice that their listening to the fans actually paid off. It gives a good message to Hollywood.
