Human Theory TAS for Super Mario Bros (FDS).
The previous TAS didn't have the wall clip in -3 so I added that.
  1. 1-1: FPG
  2. 1-2: 1-2G
  3. -1: Underwater FPG
  4. -2: FPG
  5. -3: Wall-clip

feos: We don't publish movies with arbitrary limitations if they are not entertaining to watch, see Movie Rules. Excluding TAS-only tricks doesn't make a movie any more entertaining. Quite the opposite: since it results in a movie similar to a real-time run that a human can pull off, it can't satisfy expectations from a tool-assisted movie. Emulator tools give huge advantage, so the result should make good use of them to justify tool assistance. This movie doesn't. It only serves as a reference for real-time runners. Which would fit nicely as a Userfile, but not as a submission. See the discussion thread for more detailed explanations.
Rejecting.
pillow, please don't submit movies that are slower than existing records on our site, otherwise your submission privileges may be revoked.

It appears you have made an error and accidentally uploaded it as a submission where it's slower than the TAS which it will be compared against by Happylee which can be found in this link. Human Theory or Not this is the important part as you are warned that "it beats all known records if going for speed" and that includes the TAS methods such as L+R/U+D. You may have wanted to upload this as a userfile movie instead.

I think there is a lot of value in "human theory" TAS's. Unlike most TAS's, these can serve as benchmarks and comparisons for speedrunners. As such, I'd say this should be its own category.

All it is, is a normal TAS except slightly slower because a few relatively minor tricks are avoided. That can be of value to some speedrunners, but it's outside of the scope of TASVideos publications (which demands optimal quality and content variety). It's useful to put a movie like this on userfiles as reference material. But it's not something that should be submitted or published.

While I have doubts the same thing will apply here, it's worth pointing out that there are categories in some games where restrictions are put in place, such as no BLJ in Super Mario 64 or no powerups, maximum exits in Super Mario World. These categories show new content and/or new strategies not seen in the other categories for a game. With that in mind, the only way I see this submission getting published is as a restricted category (e.g. no L+R). As with all the others, it will need to be well-defined what the restrictions are and entertaining enough to make it into Moons. As I'm relatively new here, though, I may be misunderstanding things. There's also no encoding right now to actually see it. Thoughts?

Just adding a restriction does not necessarily make a branch change, or at least not a sensible one. As put in the movie rules:
Movie Rules wrote:
• Arbitrary goal choices need to offer new TAS material to be accepted. Choices which have no goal other than to create a new game branch are rejected.
Only avoiding some minor tricks does not add any new TAS material. The restrictions do not generate any routing changes, content changes, or add anything new. It's just a slightly slower version of the normal run. I watched both runs in emulator to be sure, but it's easy to see the closeness with the time alone. In fact, it's significantly closer than it appears at first: this movie appears six seconds slower, but it ends input significantly later, so the actual difference is only around two seconds. Having a movie that looks almost exactly the same as an existing one, just two seconds slower, does not make a new category. It's not worth publishing alongside what we currently have.

Here's an encode: https://youtu.be/oYw3lCA6708 There is 231 blank frames at the end of the movie. Here's the link to that movie.
Hello! I recently got into TASing, about Dec. 2018, but never completed one until 2019-03-29. (2 Player Co-op Quest) ----------------------------------------------------- On my workbench: Nothing ATM

*232 Also in regards to ending input it's less than 232 due to the fact that SMB has a different frame where input ends. It ends on the axe grab so you have to watch for that frame specifically. There's no point in correcting the file either after what's been brought up.

It does end input correctly at the axe grab.

Oh so basically null and void in that case meaning there's no purpose to trim the file down since it's correct in the first place. Neat.

No, it was not correct in the first place. The submission ends input several seconds after the axe grab. DarkDevil's truncated version correctly trims down the movie to the axe grab.

Clarification after realization. Moth and I were talking about two different files as a minor edit came in from DarkDevil came in just before my post. So I was thinking that Moth was on about the Submission file where Moth was really on about the trimmed file.

Ah, okay. Fair enough. By the way, why is the timing for SMB on the axe grab instead of the last input?

Tradition, essentially. Back in the very old years of the site, the first SMB movies ended on the axe grab, and some controversial attempts to "save time" by ending input earlier were rejected. Since then, it's effectively a tradition that all SMB movies end input on axe grab.

How about we leave the Human Theory level playing to the humans?
