Submission Text Full Submission Page

EDIT

I'm cancelling this because I realized there is actually 2 more loops, as pointed out by Spike.
I also will improve this and actually complete the game (lol)

ZXS Tapper in 8:31.02 by DarkDevil

ZXS Tapper is just another port of the classic arcade game Tapper.
However, in this port, they didn't promote alcohol.
So, let's start serving some Pepsi™!

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: BizHawk 2.3.1 with TAStudio
  • Completes a loop
  • Easy Difficulty

Comments

Not much to say here, but this is a ~14 seconds (713 frames) improvement over the cancelled submission with some manipulation.

The Improvements (manipulation)

"Wow, a ZXS Game with manipulation!" said nobody.
The manipulation in this game works kind of like the A2600 version in the fact that you can throw drinks at nothing at the end of each round to somewhat manipulate the customers. The customers that stay and drink cannot be manipulated, which believe me I tried. But, the amount of customers that come in can be manipulated, and that's what I did in this movie. The manipulation saves quite a few frames over not manipulating and going-with-the-flow.

The bandit

I'll probably get asked why I didn't avoid getting sprayed by the bandit. All I will answer here is that it takes the same amount of time to not avoid getting hit than it does to just avoid getting sprayed.

Q & A

"Why not hardest difficulty?!?!?!1"
Well, this is my first ""optimized"" TAS of this game, and the original (draft) was made on easiest difficulty. I may make another TAS that completes a loop on the hardest difficulty, I don't know yet. But probably.
"Why so long?!?"
The ZXS has the slowest loading time for any system ever. I still don't know why.

The End.

I honestly don't know what else to put here, so I guess this is the end of the submission text.
...Is Pepsi ok?

It's called tape based loading. The C64 also features this.
Why not hardest difficulty
Odd, I don't remember asking that I remember writing.

This hints towards a loop being a thing.
This game features more than one loop and it can be argued starting from the Easiest difficulty can bring you to the hardest on the 3rd loop. Do you have confirmation on that or did you just do one loop for shits and giggles? You can also see customer count and aggression on the next loop over this TAS cuts early. I also wrote this which is still relevant to this movie.

Just realized that. I'll make a movie that completes them, and then upload it. Would I cancel this submission, or just upload the new file when it's done?
Hello! I recently got into TASing, about Dec. 2018, but never completed one until 2019-03-29. (2 Player Co-op Quest) ----------------------------------------------------- On my workbench: Nothing ATM

That's part of the game after it boots up.

I wouldn't bring something up if I didn't know about something. It isn't if you know what you're doing, you don't know what you're doing.

Learn the game.

I agree with spike here. If you dont do research on the game in question (like wondering why it has such a slow boot up process) then you obviously wont know how to speedrun it, let alone tas it. Try to actually learn the game before you put out submissions on it.

I'm theorizing that there's another two loops based on aggression of the loop over and difficulty selection. I also wrote that this is something you should figure out yourself.

Don't use the submission queue (workbench) for movies that can be easily beaten. Do due research and have all due discussions beforehand, make a movie that's not questionable, only then make a submission. Sometimes making a submission is the only way to draw people's attention and actually discuss the project, but you have the attention now, so do all the preparations in a dedicated game thread and make sure your work is complete. This also goes to other people reviewing Darkdevil's movies: please participate and help him figure things out.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

On top of what feos just said, I want to add that instead of using the submission forum, you should upload your movie files to userfiles, unless you're 100% sure that your TAS is acceptable. Here is the link for uploading movies to your userfiles space: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/my#uploadfile

But what if they're a user that uploads to the userfiles and then create a submission directly after?

Sorry, I didn't know about that. So, let me rephrase that: DarkDevil, please upload your movie files just in userfiles, and use the submission form only if you're 100% 200% sure that your movie is acceptable for our Rules.
