I'm very happy with the submission text and category names (although perhaps we went overboard with the "any% doesn't die% OMGWTHeckHard% why%" category name but seriously, watch that TAS and you'll probably agree). Since some people aren't likely to click on the link and because submission text gets nuked after each GDQ I'm posting a poorly formatted version of the submissions below. There are no video links because those are still pending and I'm so far behind time-wise on everything else in life I don't have the time to go hunt them down but this should be good enough for now. TASBot plays Hyper Princess Pitch by Tseralith Most of Daniel Remar's freeware games include an impossibly hard joke difficulty like "ReallyJoel's Mom". In Hyper Princess Pitch the mode substantially multiplies enemy spawn rates, removes all power-ups, dramatically increases the firing rate of enemies that shoot, and allows more of them to do so. It makes SmashTV look like a Barney game. A real-time player would be lucky to clear one room but thanks to tool-assisted precision, Tseralith clears the whole game without even taking damage! Reallyjoel's Mom difficulty, best ending 00:15:40 PC TASBot plays F-Zero GX by talented authors F-Zero GX is a game all about speed, and when F-Zero vehicles get going, they can get going to some really high speeds. In a series of TAS replays, TASBot shows off just how fast the game, and the F-Zero vehicles can go, along with just what it takes to truly break F-Zero GX. The TAS replay files in the linked video are examples. If this run is accepted a series of levels similar to SMBall1 will be created but with a twist - we hope to use controller inputs for true GC console verification. TASBot% 00:10:00 GC TASBot plays Super Metroid 0% by Sniq and total Super Metroid was again delivered to TASVideos so the scientists could study its frame-saving qualities... The scientists' findings were astounding! They discovered that the powers of moonfall and ACE might be harnessed for 0% item collection! Frames saved: Many. Animals saved: Ask Schrödinger. Because we get ACE we can kill AND save the animals. Simultaneously. Playback of this run on an original SNES console was made possible by total. An any% may run on Super NT; fallback is lsnes. 0% while running past audible invisible animals 00:07:07 Schrödinger% save, kill, or kill then save animals 00:10:00 any% on Analogue Super NT or lsnes 00:37:39 SNES TASBot plays Item Abuse 3 by PangaeaPanga Tool-Assisted Speedruns are created to push games to their limits. Item Abuse 3 was created to push Tool-Assisted Speedruns to their limits. Both the TAS and hack were created by PangaeaPanga. A level designed to never be beaten under normal human reflexes, Item Abuse 3 tests even the superhuman reflexes to truly showcase an unforgettable experience filled with jaw-dropping inputs and PogChamp moments, aiming to show off all the crazy things that can be achieved in the Super Mario World engine. any% doesn't die% OMGWTHeckHard% why% 00:07:57 SNES TASBot plays Celeste by DevilSquirrel and KDT TGH and YP are submitting what will inevitably be an amazing race of Celeste. DevilSquirrel and KDT built tools to TAS the game which show off entertaining techniques and strategies that are impossible in realtime. Paired with commentary from DevilSquirrel, TGH, and likely one of the game's developers, this game should be a fantastic donation incentive or bonus game for the event. Without the intent of nitpicking: Hyper Princess Pitch: - Reallyjoel's dad is the name of the original difficulty (see 27 @ http://www.remar.se/daniel/faq.php), only this game has "mom", see http://www.remar.se/daniel/hppguide_secrets.php, so I guess you wanted to write "called ReallyJoel's Mom" or "like ReallyJoel's Dad" edit: okay, I'm not sure what sounds worse. It just caught me off guard, as I already known reallyjoel's dad in his games but I missed it being called as mom in hyper princess pitch. Anyway, I'm looking forward your performance :)

So, have a gander at https://gamesdonequick.com/submission/games-list and search for TASBot or dwangoAC. The following made it in and I've asked various people to be prime for each run (i.e. to lead the work for it): TASBot plays Celeste by DevilSquirrel and KDT C-Sides [Bonus Game] 00:06:00 any% [Bonus Game] 00:31:05 This is a very solid, low risk run. It's unclear if they will put both Celeste TAS runs in the donation incentive but it is highly likely one Celeste TAS will make it in (I'd be very surprised if it didn't). DevilSquirrel is prime for this and illy is helping out with investigating if it is possible to send button presses to a visualization board. If we are unable to do that, no additional development work is expected if we use Windows and while the possibility of porting it to Linux is under investigation to make sending button presses easier it is likely we will not go down that route. TASBot plays Super Metroid 0% by Sniq and total 0%: 00:07:07 We have a recipe now that is already fairly sync stable but we need to do additional testing and refinement. The time is listed as 7:07 but we'll be taking several seconds off of that due to recent improvements from Sniq and we'll be taking over 2 minutes off from skipping the cutscene by starting from a 0-minute savestate (and posting a "verification movie" that watches the cutscene). This is a true ACE run so we will be using the ~2 saved minutes to have some fun with the animals. I'm thankful that total has agreed to be the prime for this run as there is a fair bit of testing needed to get it completely sync stable and up and running. Payload discussions are happening on #tasbot IRC. Any payload will still result in the game being completed. TASBot plays F-Zero GX by talented authors: 00:10:00 This is going to be a series of runs with Metaconstruct as the prime. There are a few different authors who have already created runs and we hope to be able to do some fun fun things. Discussions are happening at http://Discord.TASBot.net for now. More to come!

Note: Oxford comma missing due to maxing out the title. There are a rather substantial number of facets to SGDQ 2018 and I've delegated various aspects to different people. Here's a who, a what, and a why (or really, the current status, but "status" wouldn't fit in the title). MediaMagnet: SGDQ Panel submission and organization. When the announcement that panels were being introduced came out I knew I couldn't do it justice and I asked MediaMagnet to lead the charge on this one. He basically got voluntold. He absolutely stepped up to the plate and completed the submission on time. The content would be an overview of the history of TAS'ing including highlights of how it was received in the early days, a description of console verification, and a live demo of some kind. An announcement from the SGDQ 2018 panels committee on what panels will be in the event is forthcoming. total: Super Metroid payload. We've kept it rather quiet but we do have full ACE. I've delegated what to put in and what to leave out of the payload to total and he has a few ideas. He's recently done a Super Metroid + Link to the Past mashup rando romhack that's spectacular so I've encouraged him to advertise it somehow but it's up to him how or if he wants to do that. We'll inevitably do something with saving or killing the animals, probably by doing both, but we want it to be tasteful. This project is delayed a bit as total has been distracted with his romhack but he reconnected this past week. DevilSquirrel: Celeste payload. DevilSquirrel is the primary TAS contact for us. We still need a bit of clarification on exactly what can and can't be done but I'm encouraging the submissions comitte to consider allowing us to fastforward through cutscenes and show Celeste directly after the human runners complete the game so we can demonstrate the substantial differences between the two. Depending on what happens here KDT and DevilSquirrel will have to do some amount of rework but it won't be too terrible; the run is already complete and looks good as it is. illy: Celeste visualization. I've asked illy to attempt to pass button data to one of the replay devices (either the PSoC5 device or mico500's always flexible TASLink device) so we can show a visualization of what buttons are being pressed. We originally wanted to do this part in Linux but it wasn't worth the effort. On my side I'm still trying to figure out how to get PCI passthrough working on my laptop but either way we'll have a way to get this working. Metaconstruct: F-Zero GX content. I'm very thankful that Metaconstruct has taken it upon himself to organize a rather staggering list of Gamecube coders, hackers, reverse engineering experts, artists, and other interested parties. It's quite amazing how many people are contributing just from a payload perspective. There are a number of roles that Metaconstruct has and he probably has more on his shoulders than almost anyone else as he's also tasked with figuring out what TAS'ed individual levels to show and how to end the segment with some, er, flair. There is some amount of risk for that flair but if all else fails we can ad lib around the existing replay files we have now. I have high hopes for this one even if the amount of work left to do scares me. Serisium: F-Zero GX console verification hardware. I've asked Serisium to take the lead on creating a replay device so we can press buttons on an actual Gamecube rather than relying on the F-Zero GX in-game replay file method. He is currently working with a fair number of folks to potentially use a GBA along with code from Extrems. This may or may not work and is highly risky (but is far less risky than a much more insane plan that I've made the call to defer to a later event, so there's that). The consequences of failure are extremely low, however, as we can always fall back on the replay files instead. Timeshifter: Tools. This is a bit vague but we have a lot of random things we're chipping away at and Timeshifter has been doing a ton of architecture work on a number of things that may end up being used or shown at SGDQ. Some of it is the artwork / paint-by-numbers / pbn stuff extended from the original idea p4plus2 implemented while other tools are more generic and are more focused on streaming. It's quite unclear if anything he's working on is going to be in SGDQ or not but I wanted to highlight him as someone I've delegated a rather substantial workload to. This one is surprisingly big, there are quite a number of people helping out with these tools and this deserves its own post to properly provide credit to everyone so I'll leave at this for now. dwangoAC (me): SGDQ Interview Desk runner praise segments. Just like at AGDQ 2018 I'll be using TAS playback to demonstrate how various glitches human runners attempt are accomplished and praise the human runners for their skill. I've pitched SMB3 and LoZ:OoT along with a third game earlier in the week like Spyro and the committee has responded positively to the idea. We have not yet fleshed out the exact games or what timeslots the interviews would happen in but this is looking good. I'm also tackling logistics. As in past years I'm still the primary organizer and presenter coordinator but for some of the games we're doing I will be taking a back seat other than introducing the run. This is primarily because the depth of knowledge for a game like Celeste is beyond what I can prepare for and there are others who can do a better job anyway. This means I'll be doing a lot of rehearsal type things at the event this year. Lots and lots and lots of other fantastic folks too numerous to mention: Random stuff. (Seriously, I'm probably forgetting someone I should be giving top-level billing or have otherwise neglected with those odds higher since I'm typing this up on very little sleep; if I've missed something just let me know.) There are always little jobs that need done, some of which are mostly beneficial during the preparation phase to help organize things and spread the word of what we're doing. One good example of this is pepman who has been helping me with highlights which has given me videos I can point at and say "we need help with finishing this thing". Inverted made an entire suite of tools around pbn management that still blows my mind. There are so many other people doing odd jobs I can't even begin to cover them all, but swing by the http://Discord.TASBot.net #hangouts channel and you'll see what I mean. So, uh, I know this may be feeling like it's more like an AGDQ given how much we're cramming into it but believe it or not this is what things look like *after* I toned it down a notch or two. There is a lot left to accomplish so if you have a mind to lend a hand just stop by the aforementioned Discord or swing by http://twitch.tv/dwangoAC most any Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday evening Pacific time to see what we're working on at any given point. I wouldn't call it infected per se. Some folks have left including one or two people who had a penchant for insulting people (as in, insulting you, me, and others), others have joined, some have solidified themselves on the Discord side while others are IRC stalwarts. It's matured perhaps, and a lot of the content that had been discussed on #tasbot on Freenode is now on #hangout on http://Discord.TASBot.net instead. I work around my dislike of Discord by using Bitlbee to make Discord look and act like IRC which gets me what I want but may not be for you (and requires setting up Bitlbee). My guess is you're not going to find what you want. I'm drafting a status update but I may or may not be able to post it here today. Lots of things are afoot and I've done a lot of delegating so now it's a week of trying to pin down everything to make sure we know where we're at. More soon...

This isn't the thread I want to discuss this in and I disagree with your wording but yes, there is a Discord link at this time to allow easier connectivity. It has not caused a significant problem. If you choose not to use IRC if the link is present it's your choice but because the majority of people in chat find it useful I don't see that changing.
In more topical news, SGDQ is underway and the first interview desk segment will be immediately after the conclusion of the Castlevania desk. There will also be a small interview desk segment for SMB3 on Thursday. The big event is Friday and work is fully underway. Some things are going well while other things are behind but we're moving forward every day. We are on deck for SGDQ 2018, sitting in what is called the green room which consists of a couch. There are a *lot* of us here. Celeste has 5 mics for goodness sake. Super Metroid has some of the best runners. F-Zero GX has a huge team of supporting cast. It's going to be good, we're relatively practiced and don't believe we'll have any major surprises from a desync perspective. There should be some really good stuff! I will probably not check this thread for a while after as we're going to be rather exhausted. :) Thanks to everyone who helped out.

The GBA was what was sending the input to the GC.

Specifically I think the reason why a GBA was sending input to the GC (rather than a normal TASBot setup) is because there's Gamecube/GBA synchronization signals that make accuracy easier (which helps a lot since GC is inconsistently timed due to disc loads).

Congratulations on another successful TAS block! Celeste seems to have been the most-well received this time (which is heartening, as non-ACE runs tend not to have done that well in the past, so it shows that this genre can excite audiences too). The main potential improvement I'm seeing is that people are confused as to a) what was done purely via controller input, b) what was done via crafted SRAM/memory cards, and c) what was done by editing the game ROM. I'm assuming that there are no edited ROMs here (apart from the "Hi SGDQ" in Celeste which was left over from the non-TAS runs?), F-Zero GX used an edited memory card, and Super Metroid was pure controller input? If so, that really wasn't explained well at all and some people were unsure how impressed they should be. Apart from that, though, everything seems to have gone very well. I guess we now have to start planning for next time…

Hey guys, if you edit the Games Done Quick wiki (http://tasvideos.org/GamesDoneQuick.html) this year, could you add in a followup / postmortem like you did with AGDQ2016? (http://tasvideos.org/GamesDoneQuick/AGDQ2016.html) I liked reading about what the audience thought about the TAS after watching it for myself.

Reading YouTube comments on the SGDQ tasbot snippets, one semi-common sentiment seems to be that people are getting a bit sick and tired of ACE payloads. It has all been seen a thousand times already, and it kind of has lost its charm. Personally, I can't blame them. By the way, I really like how R.O.B. is being shown clearly and close-up in many of these runs, with the led-lights controller.
