As the topic name says: What are your thoughts on birthdays? Especially of your own birthday. For me, as long as it's not mine, I'm okay with it. I would wish a person a Happy Birthday and try to do something for them. As for my own, however, I absolutely loathe it with a passion. I never celebrate mine nor do I care to. To me, it's like any typical day for me. Plus, my "birth" is nothing really to celebrate anyway so it's whatever. Mere coincidence that mine is today... Ugh! Let the rest of this wretched day commence...

Well, it was mine yesterday, but the older I get, the less I care. It's just a convenient excuse to have a beer with coworkers :-P

My thoughts on Birthdays changed over the years. When I was young, I wanted my Birthdays to accumulate really quickly so I'd be old enough to get out of a troubling situation. Once I reached that point, I kind of stopped caring. If someone asked me how old I was, I had to sit and think about it, because I never paid any attention to my age anymore, it didn't matter. Then when I did realize a birthday arrived I felt a bit upset because it meant I was getting older and slightly less resilient. But my most recent viewpoint is that you MUST find excuses to make yourself happy, and constantly celebrate over whatever you can. Therefore I no longer believe in birthdays because that's too limiting. Why only celebrate your birth one day a year? Why not celebrate a whole week, you have a birthweek, right? There's also many calendars, Chinese, Gregorian, Hijri, Hebrew, and more, why only celebrate on the Gregorian? You can celebrate your birth each year for them all! Be happy! Make excuses if you have to.

Edit: btw, I also don't celebrate my own birthday, but it's not that I hate it or something, it's just that I don't care. Edit 2: ok I admit I don't like it. On a side I wish I could have stayed as a kid forever, and on the other side it reminds me that I didn't yet reached my personal goals...

When I was a kid it was a big deal, because presents and stuff. Now it's like almost any normal day. Usually one or 2 members of my family wishes me a happy birthday, I say "thanks" and that's it. Except my nephews and niece (who are kids) did call me on the phone this year to sing "happy birthday" to me (destroying my right ear in the process), then I joked with them and it was funny. For other people's birthday... Nothing much, I say "happy birthday" too if I don't forget. Last year I used a birthday as an occasion (you could say an excuse, or an opportunity, etc) to send a present that I wanted to do for a long time to a great friend of mine, though =^.^=

I see that people care about my birthday more than I do. I like drinking and playing some party games with my friends, and a birthday is usually a good excuse to bring people together, so it's helpful. I care a lot more about Christmas and Easter, not in a religious way tho, I just love the food and decorating the house.

Exact wording differs as they've changed their song numerous times. I don't even know how many versions they made. Even though they sold books, bikes, and even baby clothes, those generally aren't considered toys...

Friends and family gathering together to have a good fun time, socializing, and deepening bonds and friendships. Why would that be a negative thing? "That should be every day!" Except that it's not reasonable to expect so many people to gather every single day and do the same things, plus it would lose its charm very, very quickly. When it happens rarely, it becomes special, and optimally people look forward to it, and take the most out of it.

age < 18: "Wish I could be 18" (legal age in my country to smoke and drink etc) 18 < age: "WTF I'm already %age" apart from that, birthday is something like "when your parents had sex" date for me, similar to a wife and husband is "sex partners since N years"

When I hear birthday, depression hurts me. While other peoples are in joy about me, I am dying inside When my parents ask me what I want to receive. I say "another chance". I say it. It's way easier to find a lost grain of salt on a beach than checking if a person is depressed.
