Post subject: Alex Kidd in Shinobi World

I thought my discovery might interest the people who have played this game before or are familiar with it. You can zip by frame on frame 1 by pressing left+right, dont press anything on frame 2 and then press up on frame 3 and you will wrap like crazy :) These glitches seems to only work on ladders and so far they arent useful. Oh and it might be worth mentioning that the platforms can be misplaced when you wrap and zip. Sorry for the doublepost. Here is a fresh new wip. Now, I was able to fully use the zipping and wrapping technique. Here's some stuff I've found out: Using your sword while entering water will make you fall down to the bottom. Taking alternate routes will make enemies spawn in different places, and going back to the start when you've reached the end might mess the game up even more with enemies spawning at irregular places. On the first level you can make a long train of Red Ninjas with some jumping skills. Using the ladder glitch on the top ladder on the second level will take you up into glitch heaven. Has anyone managed to kill the two snipers on level 2?

I found an improvement to the current TAS. If you jump (without holding left or right) while Alex is coming out of his fireball form on the first level, you can maintain some of the fireball's speed for a bit. (The current TAS just holds right, which immediately resets Alex back to his regular speed.) If I had to estimate, I think it should save a couple seconds. : ) EDIT: I just tested and this is also possible with the slopes in round 4 - though the savings there will be small, because it only bumps your speed up to 2-2-2-2-2-2 pixels as opposed to the usual 1-2-1-2-1-2 pixels. I also made a bk2 that shows this trick. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/24135308009104307 I will not make the TAS this game, mostly because I can't TAS, and it looks a bit too hard for a first run. So I leave it up to the people who are still interested in SMS runs... hehehe V^^^V

So! I've decided to try TASing this myself. I'm mostly testing the ladder glitches to see if there are any other strategies. AngerFist got them done pretty well in his movie, but maybe there might be something else... who knows, it's random.

After a brief discussion with Deepfreeze, we concluded that the current run is improvable by approximately a minute, give or take. Research from KrazyRasmus and Mephistus came up with two stunning discoveries: 1) you can apparently keep your zig zag momentum from a previous screen. This should mean that the ladder parts can be improved, quite massively, although I haven't got time to test it myself. 2) you can apparently also zip when you obtain the Tornado. Pressing Up+Down can 'cause even more zipping. Many things should be tested. Finally, I still believe you can squeeze more frames from the Heli boss fight.

Link to video Wow, tornado zipping sure is something. Is there a new run being made? I'd like to try it but I wouldn't want to step on someone's toes. (Also, zig zag momentum?)

Go for it! The most I can offer is that in the first stage, grabbing the second pole earlier and moving upward into the right position can save 4 frames if your positioning is right. It might have to do with weird subpixel stuff, because on three separate attempts I saved 4, 0 and 2 frames respectively, but that's 4 frames out of 3600+ that could be saved so it's not a big deal.

I was taking a look at it recently, but got stuck because I wasn't really able to figure out what "zig zag momentum from a previous screen" entailed... <_< If you'd like to take a shot at it, by all means go ahead.

The RTA community found a timesave in 3-2 https://youtu.be/Mn7dJArgzPk Killing the big blob despawns some fireballs. This would save about 10-15 frames over my TAS but unfortunately I couldn't get it to resync :(
