In the past there have occasionally been problems when people have submitted movies and they have proven to be completely ignorant to any discussion conducted on the forums regarding their submission, either because they're newbies or because they're bad at English. It's long overdue, and I don't currently have any plans and concrete ideas on how to do it, but I would suggest investigating possibilities on making the forum link more prominent on the submission pages.

This is what a submission visually looks like. Notice where the part to access discussion is hidden in a little box with a lot of links? And that is, it's in the right part of the page, where you have technical stuff. This can be a bit confusing, as the only indication to acess by far the most important thing next to submission is hidden in a sea of links, and I'd definitely see how someone with trouble with English could miss it. My suggestion? Replace the red box at the bottom of the submission with "Your submission is complete. Thank you! [Click here to be taken to the discussion and rating page of your movie.] Please check the discussion link often to be able to respond to any questions about your submissions: failure to do so will have your submission rejected.", embedding the link to the forum discussion in brackets along with a traduction in every language (japanese, chinese mainly.) This text would be short enough to be translated in a lot of languages without taking too much space. In French, I can do the translation right now: "Votre soumission est complète. Merci! [Cliquez ici pour être redirigé vers la page de discussion et d'évaluation de votre soumission.] Merci de visiter ce lien souvent pour être en capacité de pouvoir répondre aux questions à propos de votre soumission: faute de quoi, votre soumission sera rejetée."

Here's a sample of what a typical workbench submission looks like: If you have a submission text of any substance, that red bar is relatively easy to miss. It also, when you actually look at it, doesn't contain too much helpful information for the average new submitter:
  • there's an introductory "submission complete" line, then information on what to do in the very occasional edge case of discussion topics not appearing (which I haven't seen in years)
  • then a note to cancel submission if you have an improvement which is useful some of the time but definitely not always
  • A link to all of the user's own submissions, which for a new submitter is pretty irrelevant and the link is redundant with an identical one on the right side of the page. If any link should be repeated, it's the discussion one.
  • A reminder to check the discussion link, which may have been mildly easier had it actually contained a link of said discussion instead of forcing the user to search.
I think we should basically put this text at the top of the submission page instead of at the bottom (similar to xy2_'s suggestion) and put down some more succint and more useful information up there.

I don't think it should be only for the submitter. It is best to set a pattern, so the submitter who has seen other submissions knows what to expect..

I've been working on an update of the submission page, replacing the footer in an user's workbench submission (as mentioned before) with a header version instead. With some feedback from a handful of people on IRC (including xy2_, Nach, Masterjun, dwangoAC), here's what I have now: I don't have an idea for how to implement alternative language text yet (if that is even going to be necessary, and even if it is, I may not get around to doing that) but that aside, this should hopefully be good.
