Submission Text Full Submission Page
This TAS is about 3900 frames faster than Baddap1's run.

Game Objectives

  • Emulator used: FCEUX 2.2.2
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Uses warps
  • Abuses programming errors in the game
I didn't want to encode because I was lazy.
Super Mario Unlimited is an excellent hack of Super Mario Bros., this hack was made by frantik in 2012 in which they have changed the music, graphics, levels, power ups, and added a super jump by holding the A button when you stomp the enemy. I made this TAS in 3 days from April 20th to April 22nd. When I make this TAS, there was an earthquake in Taiwan.

Level Comments With Poor English

1-1
Hit the bottom left of the star block would save a lot of time.
1-2
Pipe crossing was more useful than used Shell Jump in the first stage, I also used this glitch in the second stage and warp to world 3.
3-1
In the first stage, block crossing saved a lot of time and clicking the A button all the time when the speed value was 16. In the fourth stage (the warp stage) , I used a useful glitch to save the super jump time and warp to world 6.
6-1
Umm... Half of level jumping in mid-air.
6-2
Very short level.
6-3
I hit the two invisible blocks to enhance entermaining.
6-4
The level designed for testing super jumps, I didn't want to hit the bottom left of the star block because it would waste some frames.
6-5
Nothing to say. Entry in world 7.
7-1
Lip jump time!
7-2
Nothing to say.
7-3
Used walljump to save time in the second stage.
7-4
I performed turn around swim in the water stage, I also hit the bottom left of the star block to save time.
7-5
I used block crossing glitch to save a lot of time. If was big Mario, you can jump over celling on the left side. Entry in world 8.
8-1
Nothing to say.
8-2
My favorite level. I performed shake Mario's head on the platform. I really liked the double speed castle music very much.
8-3
Block crossing was very useful but I had to slow down at the flying green turtle. The Bullet Bull was very helpful because I hit the bottom left of the star block to save time.
8-4
In the first stage, I slid into the pipe. In the fourth stage, Mario died to reappear to the goal stage.
8-5
The final level of this hack. However, defeat the Bowser wasn't so simple! You had to get the fire flower to defeat the Bowser. Otherwise, the screen won't move. I used the vine glitch twice and used the helpful walljump in the vine stage. In the final stage, I found the fast way to defeat the Bowser, performed slide run in front of the button. The movie was ended at the frame ending the input. I really liked the ending music a lot.

Have fun watching!

I judged a previous run of this hack? I don't see it here: Wiki: Nach/SubmissionJudgements Did the hack used to have a different name? To be honest, I try to forget hacks, but still I for some reason have no recollection of seeing this hack before.

Because GoddessMaria == Nach That totally makes sense. The chances of reading the previous submission and not is endless.

For the few that disagree with my judgement of the hack... I had forgotten what my initial written English judgement was so I had to try and piece it together from the Spanish Translation from Zeupar. As for why I judged it in that manner, this hack really had something left to be desired in comparison to the many hacks floating around online. I've played the hack myself after finding out about it from the previous submission and couldn't really keep myself interested for too long as it lacked a unique spark and level design was decent at best. The lacking of solid optimization didn't help the previous submission either. Now for my thoughts on this submission... As I have stated above about the hack itself, it still has something left to be desired. The run itself, however, was somewhat interesting with the clever use of some tricks and further optimized the efforts of Baddap's submission. However, like Baddap's submission, this run lacks an explanation for doing the final level twice just to get Fireball Mario when it could've been done earlier..?

Will be there an encode soon? I would like to watch this TAS without downloading an extra emulator for being able to playback the TAS file for one time.

So it seems like dying in 8-4 is required to be able to finish the level. Which explains why the fire wasn't obtained earlier. Though having fire in earlier would save a little bit of time in some of them. If it would be enough to actually save time, I'm not sure, but as the same time I doubt that it was tested. And improvement in 8-4 is to do the vine glitch with left+right at around frame 19000. This way you can reach the pipe earlier by about a second. It's dumb that it is possible to skip the underwater section in 8-5, but it will also skip the only place in the level were you can get the mushroom. Reaching that pipe seems like it can only be done by jumping through the wall, makes me think of what the real purpose of that area is anyway.

I knew this trick, but that pipe would take you to the vine stage. So you can't beat Bowser with fireballs.

Yeah, I know :/. I would however recommend that you fix the error with the vine in 8-4 to saved another second. Shouldn't take long to do and saves a full second afterall =) (Not counting the frame rule...)

Just want to clarify that I planned to accept this if you would fix the mistakes in 8-4 with the vine. Because it really bugs me :).

Maybe you could ask him that via PM, maybe that way he will see it. Or I could fix it if he wants me to.

The vine in 8-4? Isn't it in 8-5?

Oh, why did I say 8-4 before? I actually meant 7-3**, sorry. But yeah, grab the first vine, left+right and then jump into the pipe. A rough test I did saved 63 frames.

o_0!! I tested it, it really saved a lot of frames. That was my mistake. I actually didn't know this improvement while making this run until you told me this. It seems my skills are not enough.

As great as a hack may be to play, if it doesn't bring any new gameplay or significantly different level design to the table, there's no reason to publish a TAS of it on the site. I can't see anything majorly different from the vanilla game in the TAS, unfortunately.
What copy of SMB1 do you have? I want in on that. Sounds way different than the one I have.

Make sure you upload it here: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/ or http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php And then post the link to it in this thread. Don't make another submission.

After improving the run in 7-3, the hammer bros throws the hammers more early in 7-4 than the regular run. Should I improve another levels?

I'm sorry, but I have to give this a No vote. I found it incredibly boring to watch, and the music is terrible.

Voted yes. Although there is not many differences between this hack and native SMB. Run is good enough, I think. And awaiting your improvement.

Instead of indefinite delay while waiting an improvement, shouldn't this be rejected so the actual movie that's eventually submitted is voted on, this time with full information about things like the death at the end?

Ok, if you don't plan on submitting an improved version, I will reject this run.
