I've been busy for the last few months and hardly worked on this. I only recently started working on this again. Sorry to those who were looking forward to a finished run by now. I'm in the middle of mission 2 right now, where you fight the two helicopters.

The information about the bosses' hp is very helpful, especially in the final mission. I always wondered how much hp the bubble had in the final mission. This will be very helpful. Thanks mtvf1!!

Boss hp is lower for 1 player than 2 players. However, it's not much lower and in level 8, 2 players is probably faster than 1 player. I'm using 2 players at level 8.

here's the wip. It goes to the end of mission 3. I'm trying to improve the fight against Jupiter King (mission 3) because I was about 15 frames short of achieving an in-game time of 57.

Very nice run. I guess you plan to get more bombs from boss's small missile. If you can get more bombs, you should use more bombs to beat tanks or wall or Helicopter when you only have H gun.
Another thing, every small missle's HP is 20, but using L(power 8*2, every 4frames 1 shot) to hit it is right.

zk547, did you complete mission4? Something I forget to say, when you got L, you can pass once A every 24 frames. Because Laser gun power is 8*2, every 4 frames 1 shot, shot 5 times when pass A once. But the last shot power is 8*4 in 8 frames. So Laser's real arms is equal to 240. Before boss battle 4, if you can save more 1 or 2 Flameshot than x2poet's run, you didn't need to wait the second L from prisoner.
I actually haven't worked on this after posting the WIP. I spent way too much time on Jupiter King, so I'm taking a break until I get motivated to work on this again. I am hoping to be able to finish this by the end of the year. That is useful information though. I was thinking that I could save 1 or 2 Flameshots.

Hey guys, sorry for the inactivity for the past few months. I was really hoping I could finish this soon, but a combination of lack of motivation and real life stuff kept me from getting any further. Recently, I just got motivated to work on this again. I managed to save about 15 frames from Jupiter King and now making progress in mission 4. mtvf1, if you could add the rest of the boss HP (mission 4 and 5) here sometime, I would appreciate it.

Alright, finally finished the first section of mission 4. I wanted to get further, but the emulator wasn't being cooperative. I'm at the pyramid section and about to engage the mosquitoes. The question is, whether I should pick up C or stick with H. C does 30 damage compared to H, which does 10, and is much better suited for fighting them. If I pick up C, I engage the mosquitoes about 100~120 frames (rough comparison) later than if I had stuck with H. X2poet, mtvf1, any thoughts?

Do you mean pack up C will cost more 100~120 frames, or you have tested that use C is slower than H?
These mosquitoes' HP are 140(I'm not sure every mosquitoe has the same HP). Don't forget C's smoke can damage mosquitoe, too. But all the C and H are slower than F, because F can hit more mosquitoes in once attack. I don't konw C or H is better, but you can manipulate luck and use F to hit most mosquitoes.
I meant that picking up C will cost 100~120. For now, I'm going with C because it does more damage and better suited to helping out F. I think every mosquito should have the same HP

finally at mission 4 boss. saved 1460 frames in total so far. I also managed to save 4 more F so now I have 36 shots for the boss. mtvf1, could you help me find the HP for boss 4?
as a side note, here's a video of a level 4 "semi-tas" in 24:38. The reason I say "semi-tas" is because the run was made with pure savestates using Winkawaks. nevertheless, the run itself is nearly TAS quality.

Do you know how the FlameShot work? FlameShot include main flame and side flame. Main flame power is 20 and hit 13 times in 26 frames, if no lag. The side flame power is from 0 to 5, but hit more long time. F's all power is 314. The data's change you can see: http://tieba.baidu.com/p/1634986592
So you should jump and use F to shot mosquitoes.
In the beginning of mission5, you can try to throw the plane at first time. I know in 1player, there is a chance to get F.
I knew that the highest score you can get from F was 1300 and that the maximum damage it can do was around 300 (didn't know it was exactly 314). I didn't know about the side flame.
Are you saying that in the first mosquito fight, I should jump and shoot F sideways because it does more damage than just shooting upwards?
I know that in 1 player mode, if you throw away your slug at the very beginning, you can get an extra bomb and F or C. But as far as I remember, this is not the case in 2 player. There's no bomb, C, or F. Of course I will check to make sure that is correct.

Jump and shot upward, I don't think shot sideways can damage mosquito. In the first 26 frames, F has the big power. After 26 frames, only side flames working.
But after carefully watching, I think you no need to redo it, because your F's main flame has hit mosquito 20 times, it's enough. It's seemed F has the large hitbox. You can go on doing next boss4, and test how F hitting this boss has the max power. I think only shotting upward on the ground is enough.

Tested, 2player can't get anything, but you can throw them when you meet first boss, Mr Allen, and manipulate luck for bombs from motorcycle-soldier.
Shooting upward on the ground does the most damage. Shooting upward while jumping is the fastest way to shoot F, but each shot does less damage. I don't know how much. I'll have to do some testing with that.

Sorry, I made some mistake. Laser gun shot 4 times when pass A, not 5 times. So Laser's real arms is equal to 250, and 4000 damage in all!
After my test, I think you can choose the fastest way to shot. If you can keep every flame shot's main flame hit boss 6 times(when jumping, you can hit 6 times, too), only need 31 or 32 Flame shot. You have 1000 frames to use L, so in these 1000 frames, try to use most F. F every 32 frames 1 shot, in normal place(if no lag). I think you have enough time to use F, 1000/32+1≈32 (1 is first shoot).
Edit: The middle's Y pixel is higher than side, maybe in the middle is faster than in the side, when using F.
After some testing, I found that the middle is the best place to use F because I'm able to always get 6 hits. I also tested jumping and found out that while jumping uses F faster, shooting from the ground and consistently getting 6 hits does more damage in a given amount of time even though I use up less F. I was only able to get 6 hits while jumping occasionally in the middle or when the boss was moving somewhere else. Unless there is an X position where I can consistently get 6 hits while jumping, shooting from the ground at the middle is the way to go.

In case anyone's wondering, I'm still working on the mission 4 boss (I haven't been able to work on this everyday). I'm trying to manipulate the boss to go to the left without having to delay any F or L. Currently the best possible way I found is to delay shooting L for 3 frames with no delay for F. I'll keep looking for other ways if possible.

Why you let boss go to left? Because of the less death-ray in screen and the less lag?
And what's meaning "3 frames" ? why not 2 or 4 frames? Because metalslug is 30 fps game in 60 fps system, every 2 frames have 1 frames which no effect.
Having it go to the left is better for getting 6 hits with F. It should technically be 2 frames, but there's a lot of lag frames during the boss fight which is why 2 frames becomes 3 frames.
