Does F-Zero GX have some sort of Rubberband AI? Or, in a Grand Prix TAS, would you literally be leaving everything and everyone in your dust? (...Though, really, the presence of enemy cars alone will likely throw off the speed of the courses, since simply tapping one will likely hurt your speed.)
First a movie gets submitted, and ends up accepted despite breaking rules other runs have been rejected for. And when I vote less than spectacularly on this movie, I become the victim of harassment and threats. Yay, favoritism.

This game is infamous for having Rubberband AI

Even the rubberband AI can't give enough speed to not be left in the dust. In single-track TAS for the first multi-pilot race, everyone else (BTW: Billy has infinite boost in that race) gets lapped.

I wanted to give GX TASing another try, but Dolphin 3.0 616 doesn't let me use any savegame because it says they are corrupted and need to be deleted. My own memory card that's always been working previously doesn't work. The memory cards I craft with Gamefaq's save data files don't work either...

I'm not sure what the problem is, but why use Dolphin 3.0-616 if you're starting a new run? Wouldn't it be better to start from the latest revision? It might have fixed that problem.

Some stuff about F-Zero GX I wanted to get this TAS going again. After seeing Mission 5 being DESTORYED, I wanted to help get the game back up again. The game's saves (both Main and Garage) are "protected." The save file recognizes the Memory Card's Serial, and if it doesn't match, it's not going to like it. Does that mean we can't import a save file? No. By using GCMM http://wiibrew.org/wiki/GCMM We can import the save file from Gamefaqs, or anywhere else. From a clean save file (blank) we have, three difficulties, three cups, and only a few characters/vehicles unlocked. We have Story Mission 1 on Normal unlocked as well. All other difficulties, Story Missions, and parts, need to be earned/unlocked. If you can somehow get the F-Zero GX save to an AX machine (there's an emulator for AX? There are Action Replay codes to made GX to run as AX), you will get some parts. When using Dolphin, do NOT manually force Widescreen in the Dolphin Graphics options. The game will reboot after the Nintendo/Sega logos. The game does support Widescreen and should be used, unless it's too problematic/laggy. If Story Mode is run, it should be done on Very Hard. To unlock Hard you need to beat the mission on Normal first. I haven't beaten any mission on Hard, yet.

I don't think there are enough differences between normal difficulty and very hard to warrant the effort of doing a new game+ run (required for very hard). I'd suggest doing a run on normal, so you can start from a clean save. On another note: I should really pick up TASing this game again. I never got the hang of TAS-snaking.

I think the problem with starting from a clean save is having to buy each chapter after the first. I'm not sure if you even get enough credits to buy the chapters by finishing each chapter on Normal.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

Very Hard does change the missions around. Shorter time limits (Mission 5), harder/different placement (Mission 1), Harder AI (Several).

I don't think it does either. Mission 2 costs 25 Tickets in shop/store. Completing a GP cup on Easy, gets 15 Tickets. Beating a Time Trial (non-staff ghost) gets a number of tickets as well. Staff Ghosts cost 25 tickets but also give 25 tickets (so I have heard) when beaten. A verification video may have to be done first that unlocks everything (can be very crappy) then we get to do a real TAS of the hard stuff.

Well yes, but we beat the time limit anyway, mission 1 is still three laps and the harder AI doesn't really have any effect either as we're far ahead of them anyway. The only difference would be the increased number of laps in some missions. Having to buy the missions could be somewhat more of an issue though, yes. I'm not sure wether they earn you enough money to buy the next one, but I don't think so. So yes, that would warrant a ng+ run and if you're doing that then you should do very hard. But someone would have to make a run that unlock everything (everything? or just the story chapters on very hard?) which isn't too hard, but still annoying. Also, beating staff ghosts does indeed give you the 25 credits it costs to buy them.

F-Zero GX Story Mode TAS isn't hype unless it's on Very Hard.

Agreed. Definitely use SRAM to access Very Hard mode.

Thirding the opinion of Very Hard or bust.
Taking over the world, one game at a time. Currently TASing: Nothing

I also agree that a TAS should go for Very Hard.

Yep. Even if the hard part of making a TAS is not something that would be significantly affected by the difficulty choice, it wouldn't look right to do F-Zero GX's infamously difficult Story Mode on anything less than Very Hard.

I have begun the process of making a verification movie file for F-Zero GX. So far, I have entered the name TAS on the Pilot Registration Screen and enabled the staff ghost for Mute City Twist Road in the store. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/12129476901615011 It's terrible, but it works. Confirmed to sync multiple times. There is a bad run first, then I unlock the staff ghost. I really need to learn how to properly record. You MUST NOT have a save for F-Zero GX on the memory card or the verification file will desync.

I'm willing to help with this, and it shouldn't be too hard, I think. Do we want to unlock absolutely everything? More importantly, I think some discussion is needed as to the version, there are some parts that are JAP exclusive and unfortunately these are some of the best parts. Most people unlock them using AR as the parts do exist in the other versions, but I don't think we're allowed to do that. This obviously doesn't matter if we're only doing the story, but if we're unlocking everything else as well, we probably want these too.

It depends. I am running on the assumption that we want to show off as much as possible, eventually. Very Hard Story (all) can be a branch as can any cup (all in one?) and Time Trials (all in one?) These are the Japan Only parts: (I think it requires AX) Metal Shell Blood Raven Rage Knight Galaxy Falcon Maximum Star Hyper Stream Round Disk Rush Cyclone Hornet -FX Shuttle -M2 Velocity -J Crown -77 The AX only parts for all regions: Mad Bull Crazy Buffalo Mars -EX The Triforce Branch of Dolphin will not load AX. There are Action Replay codes that will change GX into AX but is that allowed? The other thought is that we unlock all custom parts using Action Replay/Gecko codes. But, if we do that, we can not get any custom parts until we are done with everything else due to potential desync issues. And we are still using cheats. We would need extra tickets to buy those custom parts if we use cheats to enable them. I have the U version and I was able to use Action Replay codes to unlock all custom parts, even those Japanese exclusive ones. So version choice can become moot, if we use cheats. Can we get a judge to make a ruling on this?

Using cheat devices to obtain items is not allowed... You need a movie file that can unlock the items...

There is no movie file that can unlock the items; they have to be unlocked by taking your save card to an arcade machine. That is obviously not something that emulators are really equipped to handle. Hence why it's not unreasonable to consider using a cheat device.

Dolphin runs Mario Kart Arcade GP. Does it not run F-Zero AX yet? Even if not, it seems that the best that could be done is to actually pull in memory card information from an actual arcade cabinet. That way someone else can validate the menu by using their own memory card and trip to the arcade..

https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=F-Zero_AX For now it doesn't works, and it it does, you would need cheats anyway.

Either I got a bad dump (probably?) or something is wrong. I get DVD Error when I tried it this morning.

What's the deal with the custom parts in the Japanese version? Yes, there are 15 parts to make custom ships available only in the Japanese version of F-Zero GX and only if you participated in the event where they were given away (they can't be unlocked there normally either). You can, however, use Action Replay to unlock them on your file. Enjoy.
http://fzerocentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=279 The custom parts will NOT effect Story Mode. They can be used in any other mode, if a custom ship is made with those parts and the player selects the custom ship. I am content to do Time Attack and enable Staff Ghosts in the shop for now. When I start playing the GP to unlock Racers, Parts and Cups, then there may be issues about Parts being unlocked or not. Doing GP unlocks them for purchase in the shop just like doing Time Attack and getting a good time unlocks the staff ghost. Problems may occur if the part is already for sale and the game wants to enable it for sale again. Parts will be purchased last for this verification movie. F-Zero Central, does allow ships with the Action Replay parts to be in World Records, if the parts are the only thing that was cheated for. Turbo controllers and action replay cheats like infinite health (boost) are not allowed on that site.

The Triforce branch is required to run this game, as well as a series of settings.
Also, please don't use Action Replay to unlock parts, since it can set a bad precedent.
