This SNES TAS was started September 9, 2023 by paiy. The TAS was finished August 6, 2024 by paiy.
The aim of the TAS was to beat the game as fast as possible without passcodes, leading to the "Best Ending". We save the required number of lemmings in each level, but do not go out of the way to save any more, leading to lemmings dying to save time. We used the NTSC-U 1.1 version as this is the fastest version due to haveing less lag.
We utilised many glitches and edge behaviours. Some of the most common are:
  • Creating staircases by stopping bashers and miners mid-stroke
  • Allowing lemmings to slide upwards through terrain by building as a group of lemmings attempts to fit into a small gap
  • Destroying steel through various means, often overwriting its trigger area with a blocker.
A downside to this game is that it has a large amount of lag whenever many lemmings are on screen. To reduce lag, we often have to scroll the screen away from lemmings and tool use, so key moments often happen just off screen.

eien86: Claiming for judging.

eien86: Replacing movie with one with a truncated last input (the original one had quite a bunch of frames after that)

eien86: Lemmings is a beloved franchise with unique platform puzzles. This is movie beats all levels with enough lemmings saved in each to trigger the best ending credits. The movie is greatly optimized, availing itself with many entertaining glitches and TAS-only non-canonical solutions.
As pointed out by the author, sometimes the camera needs to be focused away from the action to reduce the number of lag frames. This is unfortunately a necessary evil, as it would be nice to see what's going on at those times. I hope somebody could come up with a camhack to be able to see the entire level throughout the solution.
An amazing submission that beats the previous record ([1252] SNES Lemmings "best ending" by Lord_Tom in 1:03:04.45 from 2009!!) by ~15 minutes!

Finally someone did a new TAS of this game! I saw your work on Genesis version, but I forgot to comment before. You did a really great job on both versions, considering how laborious would be for a big project, several new glitches were discovered since the old TAS publication and everything would result on a very big timesaver at the end of the game. Too bad this game lags too much if many lemmings are on screen, but at least you can see them in the "radar" ;) Yes vote!

I'm grateful for this new run. A good upgrade from LordTom's run. I found that this run improves some of the best known times listed here. However, it seems to also be falling short of the best known time in a few levels. It seems those were all levels that snc76976 had the best time in but his videos are not available anymore... I guess you were confronted by a "there is a best known time but no video of it" dilemma... Unless there is a reason for this, such as a Japanese-version exclusive mechanic. Not sure what MarbleousDave meant by "bug related to the time bonus upon the end of the level" in the Japanese version, in the linked topic... Anyway, I noted down which levels seem to be improvable just by checking the "Ingame time left" after the level.
Mayhem Level 06 - One way or another 2:15 reached, 2:19 possible (Time left) Mayhem Level 07 - Poles apart 4:16 reached, 4:17 possible (Time left) Mayhem Level 12 - The Other Side 2:11 reached, 2:20 possible (Time left) Mayhem Level 14 - Pea Soup 4:00 reached, 4:01 possible (Time left) Mayhem Level 15 - The Fast Food Kitchen... 1:01 reached, 1:09 possible (Time left) Mayhem Level 21 - With a twist of Lemming please 3:17 reached, 3:19 possible (Time left) Mayhem Level 22 - A BeastII of a level 3:17 reached, 3:27 possible (Time left) Mayhem Level 25 - Have a nice day! 4:02 reached, 4:03 possible (Time left) Mayhem Level 26 - The Street Mines of Kessel 6:14 reached, 6:16 possible (Time left) Mayhem Level 30 - Rendezvous at the Mountain 6:21 reached, 6:35 possible (Time left)
I think panning the camera away from the action hurts the entertainment value for this speedrun. In my opinion, only the ingame-time left after each level should matter for judging speedruns in this game. Not the real time. EDIT: Looks like I have videos of Lemmings TAS backed up. But only very few old ones: Level 6 with 2:16 remaining and Level 7 with 4:17 remaining. Let me know if you want them.

yes the reason for the imperfect times is that there was no vid of them anymore, and i wasnt able to find them myself, so i did my best on improving Lord Tom's times myself. Yes i'd love to see these saved videos, even if it isnt all it will still be a great thing for the new big thing im working on. please PM them to me, thanks a lot.
