Movie Goals

  • Beating the Galaga minigame in the initial loading screen as fast as possible
  • Emulator used: BizHawk 2.4

About the movie

Well, it turned out this minigame seems to be TASable, to I TASed it.

Tricks

  • Destroying the last two enemy of a wave in reversed order: this saves some time because it makes the last enemy of the wave disappear early, at the cost of delaying the other one.
  • Destroying two enemies at the same time: your ship fires two bullets at time, and when one disappears, the other one does as well. However, if both bullets hit two enemies at the same time, both enemies will be hit. I have managed to hit one enemy twice with both bullets, which allowed to destroy instantly despite the fact that had 2 HP.

Noxxa: Claiming for judgment.
Noxxa: As Galaga has standalone releases, playing it as part of a multi-game release is not an acceptable goal. As such, rejecting.
Spikestuff: If anyone wants to dump this in the future use 2.2.2 as 2.3 to 2.4 can crash when dumping.

Run looks nice, but does the self-impalement trick not work in this version of Tekken?

What happens after where the movie ends? Repeat, or permanent congratulations screen or such?

sadly, he don't use the known half tas secret trick "PRESS START TO TEKKEN" so it'll be a No for me

Neither. The game just proceeds to Tekken.
my personal page - my YouTube channel - my GitHub - my Discord: thunderaxe31 <Masterjun> if you look at the "NES" in a weird angle, it actually clearly says "GBA"

Hmm, if it does unlock a character, perhaps the encode can end on showing the character. I'm quite interested in this kind of "game inside a game" runs and wonder how acceptable they are.

Movie Rules wrote:
<h3>Games with additional level sets or games</h3>Games which consist of multiple full games available immediately in a menu, such as separate level sets, often referred to as episodes in DOS games, or the individual games in Super Mario All-Stars, they may be played and submitted individually. Playing a single episode or individual game to completion, or all episodes or games, is considered game completion. Playing multiple, but not all, episodes or games is not considered completion. Multi-games should be avoided if all the games they contain exist separately on the platform, play the individual ones instead.
Not sure if this technically counts as a "full game" within a game. One could also argue it breaks the "exists separately on the platform" portion of this rule, although I'm not sure if Galaga in single-game form was ever released for PSX. It certainly breaks the spirit of the rule when taking into account the Use the correct version rule. However, as a counterpoint to this argument, this TAS presents a unique opportunity to see double-ship action, since my understanding is that a full "All Challenging Stages" TAS of standard Galaga would likely skip getting double-ship because the time loss to obtain them is too significant. But by the same token, a double-ship TAS variant could be created for a full game Galaga submission, which would be more "complete" than this movie (though it may still be ineligible for publication, given that it would likely have to mean Moons criteria, since double-ship seems too arbitrary to be Vault eligible).

I recall playing this loading screen version, but I didn't know it ended. I'll vote for it
