A user has provided me with screenshots of a conversation with spikestuff in a private message on discord in which he essentially bragged about intentionally flooding TASVideos Channel with re-encodes after Super Mario Bros. was published: https://imgur.com/a/fHTf4XM The user wishes to remain anonymous and was very hesitant to provide me with these screenshots to begin with, but I absolutely believe their validity. EDIT: Obviously this provides no evidence that spikestuff was behind the YT comments but it pretty clearly proves that the re-encodes were done specifically in response to Super Mario Bros. EDIT2: I find https://i.imgur.com/kKVy2jC.png in particular to be an interesting comment because I doubt just anybody could make it. I heavily doubt regular users would know just by looking whether or not a video spammed filters. Noticing an issue with a video is one thing, but knowing the source of the issue is another entirely. The only people I could see noticing such a thing are those with encoding knowledge to begin with, which unfortunately points to publishing staff.

I've been presented with most of the evidence provided in the top post by BrunoVisnadi. While it contains a lot of compelling material, there's little in there that's truly conclusive so it's hard to make a definite statement on it. This, however, looks like a pretty definite admission to abuse of the publication/staff role to not only single out an user's movie, but even go as far as to sabotage one of the main TASVideos publication outlets just in order to do so. I would really like to see an explanation from Spikestuff for these comments, and an explanation from the senior publisher(s) in charge of his staff position why he is still allowed a staff role in light of this.

About YT comments. If someone is as knowledgeable and passionate as those people (?) are, why not register here and actually influence our decisions? They limit their passion to the place where none of us would care about it.

There wasn't agreement among staff that all those events were planned out and executed by Spike, and I can't make demotion decisions if there's such disagreement.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

In this case, I would like an explanation - in light of current evidence, not just from the past - from the staff member(s) in question that apparently prevented you from making such a decision.

The album is backwards as a note. These comments came from last week and it was basically going through the breakdown of what occurred. A blacked out comment it says "There's another reason Lee hates me." before showing TVC with Lee's TAS being shadowed. In leaving that comment out it probably comes out as bragging for the TVC side. My position on HappyLee's TAS was well known and the attitude he was presenting during the entire time. The TVC subscribers is basically learning the fact people weren't like/used to a GDQ upload style on TVC. You've also taken the side of reflection on the incident as "bragging" as the full context isn't looked into. "Noticing filters." One of my older encodes for one my own account which unfortunately is deleted had comments hating how there's a filter on it. So some people would notice and others won't that's an up in the air one on how a person perceives it.

Thank you for confirming the statement that you deliberately shoved down dozens of re-encodes at once on TASVideoChannel for the explicit purpose of hurting HappyLee's movie views. And considering how recent these messages actually are, to this date it appears you still did/do not even consider it to be wrongdoing. I have no words for how disgraceful this behavior is for a staff member.

Sorry, I can't write a decent apology for the life of me but I'll at least try to. I want to apologize on the TVC Incident. It was inappropriate. I'm sorry to the other site members. It was petty and it got our of hand. I'm sorry to HappyLee & Mars608 for undermining your TAS with this stunt.

Thank you. I would still like to see a statement from senior staff, as I mentioned before.

This topic was discussed in Thread #20271: Viewership and re-encode flooding, which was till today a staff-only topic. It was dealt with at the time, and as can be seen there, we've since enacted rules to not flood. Everyone involved said they will no longer flood in the future. See additional details there.

A question. Are we supposed to pretend that the damage to TVC was an completely accidental consequence of the mass upload, and not the whole motivation behind it?

While I am glad you are trying to be more transparent in this, there is one thing I am taking issue with.

I take issue with this because it’s already clear that he did flood the channel for the purpose of burying the publication. The messages Memory posted show that and even spike admitted to it. It isn’t “alledged” anymore. At the time that original staff thread was made, it is clear that no one knew the motivation behind the flood, but now we do, and to act like we still dont know the motivation is just ignoring the problem.

Regarding some encoders/publishers allegedly trying to bury publications,
This is no longer an allegation, this is now a fact. One of the publishers admitted to doing it. I'm not even suggesting to throw them specifically under the bus, I just want us as staff to take some responsibility for all this.

Some people have no reading compression regarding what a "recap" is.

I would really appreciate it if a statement was made IN LIGHT of the new information, not old threads prior to this new information.

So Spike has already apologized and this:
I've spoke to all involved at the time. They gave me their word that they will not perform any activities which look like publication burying in the future. As these are private discussions, they will not be quoted.
Happened. And you're still looking for statements? Funny you actually quoted the very first part of this statement which is recent in your other post. Are you really focusing on the issue or is this turning into "I have personal issues with Spike I would like to see him punished" ?

The new light, regarding the "TVC incident" doesn't' really change much, I think. It looked pretty obvious what the intent was back then. It was handled in a way Nach and I feel was appropriate. Except, that I think we now realize it was a mistake to only handle it in private, when this was such a public incident. My official statement is that any kind of sabotage to a publication is not okay coming from a staff member and I'm highly disappointed in the behavior. I expect better. To Spikestuff: I hope you see that you are viewed as a representative of tasvideos. Your behavior reflects upon the rest of the staff and community. You need to hold yourself to a higher standard than this kind of petty behavior. You are a workhorse who's consistently putting out A+ work. It's time for your behavior to be the same.

I don't see the need to specify Spike here, I'd hope it'd be the same for any staff that pulls something like this.
