http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

I recommend Super Metroid. This run is definitely the best 2018 run ever! This run was mind blowing when I watched for the first time. My reactions were strong when I watched those new techniques, like superjumps used on Lower Norfair (after beating Ridley), or using X-Plasma with 2 bosses, or even skipping a elevator! EDIT: I also voted Super Mario Sunshine. This was also another impressive run, starting with a certain TAS of this game I've watched back from 2014. This game isn't a lot broken like SM64, but was still superhuman (some levels aren't easy to beat on real-time).
My homepage --Currently not much motived for TASing as before...-- But I'm still working.

I have seen all 2064 currently published TASes, and [3653] SNES Super Metroid by Sniq in 35:58.31 is my #1 ranked out of all of them. It is also the only movie that I have given a 10.0 in both entertainment and technique. I voted exclusively for this movie. It is the TAS of the Millennium. I would find it disappointing if [3731] GC Super Mario Sunshine by zelpikukirby & Goldfire in 1:08:32.58 ended up with more votes thanks to the "I guess I'll give my second choice a vote too" system.

Mario always wins. There is nothing surprising.
TASing is like making a film: only the best takes are shown in the final movie.

I do not recall you being able to see how people voted. Maybe people voted exclusively for Super Mario Sunshine. Maybe people voted for Super Metroid as a second choice.
[16:36:31] <Mothrayas> I have to say this argument about robot drug usage is a lot more fun than whatever else we have been doing in the past two+ hours
[16:08:10] <BenLubar> a TAS is just the limit of a segmented speedrun as the segment length approaches zero

At the time of my post, Challenger's post was the only one in the thread. He stated that he felt that Super Metroid should win, but he added that he also voted for Sunshine. Although I didn't quote him, a reasonable person could conclude that I had read his post and was stating my opinion about it. It is also objectively true that Super Metroid (8.9, 9.9) has both a higher entertainment and technical rating than Sunshine (8.7, 9.5) from the community as a whole, not just from me (and you). In fact, Super Metroid has the highest technical rating of all 2064 movies. Yet here we are; Sunshine is going to win.

Arc, did you know that it’s possible that a TAS could not win an award, and still be considered a good TAS?

A lot of people don't even bother with ratings but do bother with these awards.

Are you sure about that? "But this only has 3 votes so it doesn't count!" In that case, I'll just point out that there's atleast 6 other games with a technical rating of 9.9, 2 of which have more votes than Super Metroid. Also, last I checked, TAS of the year was not determined by raw ratings, otherwise we wouldn't be voting here. But we are voting here, as there are more voters (as pointed out by Memory) and more factors for voting. Edit: A Link to the Past "full inventory" would win TAS of the year if selected by raw ratings, followed by Super Metroid/SMB3 "warps"/Castlevania.

Okay, I think I've devoted about half my day now to checking into and roughly going over every TAS candidate's encode, submission text, audience feedback, technical and entertainment rating, platform, aswell as movie statistics, and after multiple double-checking back and forth, I think I now at this point can for me personally without remaining self-doubts reduce/limit my choices down to the following three (in order as they appear in the poll): ° [3653] SNES Super Metroid (JPN/USA) in 35:58.31 by Sniq ° [3774] ZXS Castlevania: Spectral Interlude (v1.1) "100%" in 34:33.11 by Mothrayas ° [3878] GBA Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure (JPN) in 33:31.87 by WarHippy I tried to look at this from a faithful perspective parallel to how submission polls are handled where one's requested to watch a movie before voting, and I'm sorry if my choices aren't compatible with others views (which I think to some degree is part of the nature of a poll anyway), but I think I tried well enough for a fair comparison in my evaluation on which of these TASes fit best to be titled overall as ''TAS of the year 2018''.
collect, analyse, categorise. "Mathematics - When tool-assisted skills are just not enough" ;) Don't want to be taking up so much space adding to posts, but might be worth mentioning and letting others know for what games 1) already some TAS work has been done (ordered in decreasing amount, relative to a game completion) by me and 2) I am (in decreasing order) planning/considering to TAS them. Those would majorly be SNES games (if not, it will be indicated in the list) I'm focusing on. 1) Spanky's Quest; On the Ball/Cameltry; Musya; Super R-Type; Plok; Sutte Hakkun; The Wizard of Oz; Battletoads Doubledragon; Super Ghouls'n Ghosts; Firepower 2000; Brain Lord; Warios Woods; Super Turrican; The Humans. 2) Secret Command (SEGA); Star Force (NES); Hyperzone; Aladdin; R-Type 3; Power Blade 2 (NES); Super Turrican 2; First Samurai. My morning notes... We have a reliable star man and other judges who are capable of understanding both the technical and entertaining sides of a movie. Just saying they could handle this particular award, as the winner of this award probably already won in another category (platform TAS of the year, platform TASer of the year, objective TAS of the year (speed, glitchy etc)).

Seeing we are reaching the end of this decade it would be interesting to see a "TAS of the decade award" every TAS of the year since 2010-2020 place them in a poll and vote for the best of the best of this decade. I wonder what the trophy would be, maybe a golden 10 surrounded by the classic video games pets, or maybe consoles? Maybe the poll can take place between January 21-28?
You can see more TASes on my youtube channel

Really Arc? Did you really lower your rating on Pokemon Crystal from a 9.9 to a 9.8 just to make the technical rating tied with Super Metroid? (The answer is yes and I'm quite disappointed.) edit: 9.7* edit: you can stop now arc

Deliberately dropping the vote after the light being shone on your behavior and then keeping up the persistence Arc well that is a dick move for you to do. I mean I've heard it's possible to have your Ratings on Published movies revoked, but that was for extreme cases. Edit: It's been restored. GG.

I am sorry to see that had to be your 5000th post. Insofar as the voting goes, I expected three runs to shine with one specific run winning. I said as much when the vote started in the discord. In order to avoid biasing anything further I won't explain more until after the vote is over.

That’s like saying a politician shouldn’t campaign so as to not bias the voters. Unless you personally disliked all three of those runs I’d appreciate hearing your discussion.

Congratulations to Sniq for taking the TAS of 2018 award with [3653] SNES Super Metroid by Sniq in 35:58.31!

Like I explained before, this run is definitely the best 2018 run ever! So, this was obvious for me that would be the winner.
