I've always wondered this; who is the mascot of TASVideos? Or does TASVideos even have a mascot? I've noticed on many TAS encodes I've watched, there's a little ferret/weasel/marmoset looking creature holding a watermelon with a bite taken of it, but then on others there's a ninja holding a staff with a long red ribbon flowing from it. So, which is it? If neither of those are actual characters and TASVideos doesn't have one, I think we should give TASVideos a mascot!

i think the " ferret/weasel/marmoset " or the "ninja" are just pics the encoder use for the preview screen. when it comes down to a mascot i´d assume megaman as seen on the TASVideos front page and/or the old ?bisqwit.iki.fi? page which used a megaman helmet

I also think that TASBot would be appropriate as a mascot.

Jesus, you're watching very old encodes. http://tasvideos.org/EncodingGuide/Logo.html
Per the Encoder Guidelines, all video clips must be prefaced with an approximately two second encoder logo, prominently displaying http://TASvideos.org/, a notice that the movie is tool-assisted, and some distinctive means to identify the encoder. Some examples of current logos can be seen at SiteHistory/EncoderLogos.

But we already have a mascot. You can't get cuter than this.

So there are a bunch of interesting things that Ange Albertini made for the site that as far as I'm aware haven't yet been put to use which I think is a shame. They are possibly poorly scaled due to being in .svg format (update, changed to 150x150) so it is probably best to view them directly by clicking on them. Capcom style TASVideos logo: Megaman style TASVideos logo: Super Metroid style TASVideos logo: SMB1 style TASVideos logo: Megaman slide: Now, I'm definitely biased, but I happen to like the idea of TASBot as a mascot - Ange made several SVG versions including the one at the top of http://TASBot.net but here's just his head in .png format: I also like this little 48x48 guy (he's almost a bit too small, but he's cute and was made by endrift): Again, I'm quite biased so feel free to ignore me but i hope this art is of use to someone. Enjoy!

You know, I've always wondered why (per the guidelines) the intro page of a movie shows the encoder's name promintently, but not the person who made the run. Shouldn't it be both?

The name of the author (and other relevant info) is already shown prominently in the movie subtitles at the beginning of a run.

The author which is one of the most important parts is overlayed over the gameplay, so you cannot miss it, and it cannot be easily removed from the video. Same goes for a link back to the site. The cover image mentions who put work into the video itself, but can easily be cut out by those uploading to tube sites, and often skipped by viewers.

Wait, I'm a mascot now?
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

I've always thought Mario was an implied mascot. He's in the TASVideos logo and shows up in the title bar on the main site. Totally agree about TASBot. Very appropriate for the site theme, and already already featured prominently at GDQ events and such.

Is the mascot, if chosen, gonna replace all (or some) of the images that are already there?

If we're really gonna use TASBot as the site's mascot, then at the very least we should design him in a way that Nintendo's ninjas don't come after us, since ROB has been recently used as a Nintendo character in recent games like Smash Bros. Or at least that's what I think anyway.

It's apparent to me that TASBot is already a mascot, even for people that are not really familiar with tasvideos itself (the site), thanks to the GDQ events. And it happened quite naturally, I don't remember a discussion like the one here where it was decided to make him a mascot, for example. But what I remember is the stories of dwangoAC about people in GDQ wanting to take pictures/selfies with TASBot.

We put a lot of thought into determining whether the artwork was acceptable back in 2016 when Ange made the image for The Yetee to use for SGDQ 2016. It was acceptable to The Yetee and was well-received publicly with no backlash from Nintendo. One part of it is that this was clearly an artist's imagining of a physical object (as opposed to, say, the exact pixel art ripped from a ROM file) and further the image contains no trademarked words or other legally concerning elements. Here's a full version that more clearly shows the uniqueness of the image and TASBot in context (click to embiggen): Ange has all the original files and this image can be cleaned up with a different background color, no text identifiers or lower-right box area, and turned into a single piece of art that would be usable as a mascot. Note that I haven't recently spoken to Ange about doing additional work on this but I think this would be a small amount of time for him and he'd probably be willing to do it as it would simply be pruning away elements that are not needed for a mascot image. Thoughts?

I like the idea of using TASBot for the logo. Mario and Mega Man always seemed kind of out of place.

TASBot is just ROB. No better than picking Mario or Megaman.

Everyone knows that all TASes are just the speedruns done by TAS-chan, a girl from Japan that happens to have all the records. Since we wouldn't have any content on this site without TAS-chan, she is the obvious choice for a mascot.
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

Right. And TAS-chan is fully controlled by the TASBot, that is fully controlled by dwangoAC, who is fully controlled by Nach who is fully controlled by Masterjun. Someone should make an icon describing the entire TAS-chain and make that our new logo.
