I'd like to see some tool assisted writing appear on screen, as there's a few movies which incorporates that. For example, if my recent Warcraft II runs doesn't get accepted for star material, then I'd at least like it to be featured in the promo video.
Warcraft IINightfireGoldeneye (Old)
Brain Age
Plenty of LOLs and TASs to shove in the promo somewhere.
Just popping in to let you know I'm currently up to page four in collecting and organizing the clips into one big Excel table. A couple of weeks after that's done I will create a post in which I try to list what we seem yet to be missing but for now no-one has suggested the "Evolution of a TAS" game and place within that game. To rehash, there should be a game that has been TASed several times (at least 3-4) over the course of time and a particular segment inside the game that has "evolved" from TAS to TAS. The ideal clips for this show an easy-to-appreciate progression with more than just a few frames gained each time. My first thought after seeing Tompa's recent Link to the Past submission would be if there has been such an evolution in how to enter the castle but maybe it was always the same until now...
The "writing in a TAS" thing is certainly going to be a little segment within the video thanks to the suggestions made so far!
How about the Kirby's Adventure glitched frame-war? It got improved something like 10 times, starting with taseditor and ending with I think MESHUGGAH.
"An artist who can’t take constructive critique on their work is only hurting themselves and their potential.
Conversely, and artist that can’t communicate a critique in a constructive way isn’t helping anybody."
It might be difficult to find exactly what you're looking for.
* Improvements between TASes are very often subtle changes compounded over time.
* Major changes don't usually happen at the same place between versions
* Often the biggest changes between runs have to do with entertainment changes rather than speed differences.
* Even the simplest games can have major route changes, which might exchange a temporary loss of frames for an eventual gain.
I'll see what I can find, though. One place you might try searching is This channel
Maybe instead of looking at a single moment, you can show a bunch of major improvements over the history of the run

More like that.
So the first phase of the project is finished! A grand total of 96 clips (cosmic Super Mario World reference?) have been collected so far. Here's a link to the little Excel-table I'm
working with if you're interested. https://www.dropbox.com/s/2br7bl00iu2mrlo/Promo%20Video.xlsx
Please don't read too much into the ratings I've given the clips. If you think I've completely miscategorized something, let me know.
WANTED:
-some samples for these platforms (a game or two is enough, just to show off the various platforms):
DOS (only have Jetpack so far)
WINDOWS (have Cave Story for now)
WII (no clips so far)
Arcade
Sega Genesis
...and any of the more obscure platforms that BizHawk or another new emulator brought along.

I repeat here I didn't look at anything that didn't have at least a Youtube link and a specific passage pointed out from the run. If you think something spectacular is missing, someone has to put in that work first.
I left out a few clips that didn't look very impressive or where I didn't understand what the trick was at all. Also a Chuck Rock suggestion was skipped because the YouTube video wasn't playing properly. The evolution of Ocarina of Time isn't needed and the third clip completely skips the area the first two play through. A few more were skipped because they were very similar to other clips from the same or similar games.
Thanks a lot Flip and arkiandruski! I believe the Super Mario 64 clips Flip collected will serve for demonstrating the "Evolution of a TAS" very nicely! Arkiandruski, I like your compilation a lot as well and I see no problem with using it in its entirety. We'll have one of the composers make a nice remix of one of the game tracks to go with it (are you interested Patashu?).

So I'm going to start working on the storyboard. More requests may come as that moves along.
I think you should reconsider the Batman clip I posted earlier, especially since you're specifically looking for Genesis moments. I really think it's a great moment that speaks for itself.

From the start of the stage to when he starts moving again.
I'll take a look at the Genesis movies and see if I can't find some more examples.

For Wii, use something from STBM's World Of Goo TAS.
Happenst thou have time to find something for me? I'll look at it but much later unless I get what I requested, an actual link to a specific passage (or a couple in this case) in the run. Much appreciated in any case!
Creotheoceann: Can I ask the same of you?
Patashu: I'll get back on the Dawn of Sorrow thing a bit later. Meanwhile can you tell me if it's possible for you to work with "hifi" instruments as well? In case 8-bit doesn't sound right on top of the >8 -bit gameplay, could it easily be converted to another soundfont?
arkiandruski: A yes, that passage... I think it became clearer when it was extended a little to start from the beginning of the stage. Yes, I get what's happening now (but don't ask me what's changed). We'll have to use the low-quality clip but no biggie, it's a short clip as well. Is it still more or less TAS-only to clip through the wall btw? Because a death-abuse in itself is not a just-TAS trick. Might end up using it anyway and whatever Genesis stuff you could dig up!

Jazz Jackrabbit (has downloadable video):
- 00:58 (faster movement)
- 04:12 up to end of level
Prince of Persia:
- part 1 00:05 to 00:10
- part 1 03:05 to 03:13
- part 2 04:36 to end of level
- part 2 07:50
Clipping through walls requires you to do a long series of frame perfect inputs in quick succession. I'm pretty sure it's impossible in real time.
Here's a short list of possible Genesis clips.

Comix Zone martial arts tournament. This shows some superplay.

Crusader of Centy: an unexpected strategy for getting through the windy valley. Fast speed and possibly glitches

Sonic and Knuckles through to Launch Base Zone 1. Extreme glitching.

I don't think this is a TAS... Correct me if I'm wrong. I decided I'll use Jazz and the SkyRoads TAS because that game is famously really difficult.
arki and ware, I'm adding your suggestions now and I'm pretty happy with the platform variety after that although if anyone knows Arcade games better than me feel free to give a few suggestions for those.

Well, I'm pretty sure it's tool-assisted (savestates, probably with slowdown, but not frame-by-frame).
I just found it funny; no problem with me if it won't be used.

Sorry, I managed to miss this post ^^;
Compositions in Famitracker aren't conducive to being directly converted into soundfonts/etc. I currently don't have much experience with 'better than 8-bit' daws and can't offer it as something I can reliably do.
For a Windows game, there is Braid (any%).
There is a short sequence of 8 seconds in stage 6-5, and a longer one if you add the previous 7 seconds, making 15 seconds in total.

Because I noticed SMB3 on the list
I thought about this and the changes it went trough being the first tas made.
Just a thought.
Edit: Oh and when it gets out that Sonic TAS that was just made.
Edit 2: Just looked at the excel doc: "Bishi Bashi Special - Jump for the meat - PRECISE"
mmm no... This is precise + 2 player + perfect score on that level (Starting from the craziness point).
