Hi, I've been Looking into TASes for several years now and I Must say "Good Job" on your Runs. I would Like to work on my own ocarina of time TAS to beat the Game with all of the Dungeons. However, is it O.K. for me to do this if I have Autism? I've been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome but I Love ocarina of time TAS. Is this allowed? P.S. I don't see why having Asperger's would stop you from running this game. If you put the effort into running and optimizing a game you love, what's to stop you from becoming a great TASer? It is a lot of work though, and you'll really have to know the mechanics if you're doing a game like Ocarina of Time, but I think you can do it if you have the patience and the humility to accept criticism on your runs. Oh, and this site doesn't discriminate. There are a few people here who have a form of autism, including Asperger's Syndrome, but they've been able to make some good TASes nonetheless. Welcome to the forums!

The only thing to know about TASing N64 games is that mupen likes to desync so you have to play back your movie file from the start a lot to make sure it doesn't desync. Also what CoolKirby said. And welcome!

I don't see a reason why Autism should be a disadvantage for TASing a game. I know how patient and focussed autists can be, so they might have an advantage. Having that said, OoT isn't an easy game to start with, it has incredibly complex mechanics and the emulator you'll have to use is complete garbage. But if you're motivated to learn it, you should definitely go ahead and start practicing. If you have problems, you can always ask someone on the forum.
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

I'd just like to note quickly that tasvideos is not designed to host every possible TAS that could ever exist. In particular, its job is to host 1) the best (fastest) TASes for 2) well defined categories that beat the game 3) of games that have entertainment or technical merit of TAS 4) (plus playarounds for games where playing for speed makes no sense and a few other cases) You are more than welcome to TAS whatever you want, and talk about it/post it on the topic for that game! We love looking at TASes. Just be aware that not all TASes will be accepted onto the tasvideos site itself, because that isn't its goal. Also, your first TAS doesn't have to be 100% optimal/be the fastest ever. Do testrun TASes, playaround TASes, TASed routing. Look for glitches and tricks other people have done and try to recreate them, etc. Here's what the current real time 'all dungeons' real time route looks like: http://www.twitch.tv/moltov/c/2251862 If you can recreate that in a TAS, which will require you to find and learn how all of the tricks in it work, you'll be off to a great start in building more skill.

Are you kidding? I have Asperger's and you see me TASing (no published runs yet, but still ^^ ). Asperger's is not a hinderance, but a gift! Remember that dude, being an Aspy is cool. ;)
I quit TASing.

gz to OP for a successfull troll. Dunno how anyone is taking you seriously. Too bad we didn't get a retard saying "no... we will not allow any people with disabilities TAS'ing games". Then there would be so much more drama from this.

I don't know why you assume it's a troll - for one, it's generated a lot of positive response. Sounds pretty win-win no matter how you look at it.

Yeah. Done.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. My troll sensors went off too. Just saying. I think it's more likely for a troll to capitalize random words than for somebody with Asperger's. TASing with disabilities is illegal in 16 states. Just put in a fake location though, and you'll be fine. P.S. Welcome! ^o^

If you are being serious (and not some kind of strange troll) I'm not exactly sure what is it that you are asking. Perhaps you meant to ask something that you didn't actually express in your post? I mean, something like "is it ok if the run isn't perfect or beat any existing records, because it's difficult for me to make such a run due to my condition?" If that's what you are asking, then I don't think such exceptions to the standards of quality would be in place (although I'm nobody making policies here, of course.)

I still think it's a troll, but just in case OP was serious I will provide a real reply. It doesn't matter what condition you have. You are free to submit TAS'es and you will be treated like everyone else here. If your first work is subpar some people here might provide you with helpfull feedback while others might deliver rude comments. GL anyways.

No special children allowed here at TASVideos School. This is a serious place and we all pride ourselves with being one hundred percent serious. Only cool kids allowed. Just don't make fun of the special too much or they might return with firearms and we'll all have to run for our lives. And Jack Thompson would get on our asses.

For the record, people with aspergers are notoriously bad at picking up on sarcasm. Please be considerate, even though I realize the urge to be asshats is almost impossible to resist.

I don't think it's a good idea to consciously avoid the use of sarcasm among people with Asperger's. They might be bad at detecting it, but not incapable. Due to their high intelligence (compared to other forms of Autism), they can compensate for their disadvantages to a certain degree. A weak leg has to be trained, in my opinion. At least, one should try before totally abandoning it. Dear WiiUltimate, if you are serious, I should probably let you know that there already are or have been TASers with Autism. You might want to contact them. Pretty sure that Bhezt Rhy has it? Also, Spider-Waffle? I think those have officially announced it. You are welcome to share your efforts at any time in the Newbie Corner. I'm not sure why your topic has been moved to this section as opposed to the Newbie Corner.

This is sarcasm. I thought your question of whether it's alright for you to TAS with disabilities was ridiculous, so I gave a ridiculous reply. That's a typical situation in which sarcasm is commonly used. Laws are usually fairly reasonable, so there obviously doesn't exist a law against TASing with disabilities. TASing with disabilities is neither dangerous to the TASer nor to any other people involved, so there would be no reason to outlaw it. Most people would be able to figure this out by themselves. If people speak untruths, they are either wrong, lying, trolling or it's sarcasm. Since most people, by a very large margin, would know that there isn't a law against TASing, it's unlikely that I was wrong. If I intended to lie, I would have backed up my statement with evidence to make it sound more credible. If I wanted to troll, I would have made my comment more provocative and made an effort to portrait myself as credibly wrong. Since none of these options are very plausible, I think you should have concluded that it's highly probable for it to be a joke or sarcasm. An important difference between sarcasm and a lie or trolling is that with sarcasm, it's usually expected that most people will easily detect it. Trolling is when we pretend to be stupider than we really are in order to get attention. Trolls usually expect lots of people to fall for it, but sometimes it's more fun to them to throw in more or less obvious hints that they are trolling, so that only stupid people will fall for it. This gives them not only attention, but also a pleasurable feeling of intellectual superiority. For example, they would Capitalize random words in a Pattern that no Language in the world Uses. This, in combination with you asking a pretty ridiculous question, is how I concluded you are very likely trolling. If you look up the definition of sarcasm, it might say that it's used with the intention of hurting people. This isn't necessarily true. My intention was to make people laugh. When people are confronted with untrue statements, this creates a form of tension between what they think is real and what is claimed to be real. When they find out immediately that the person uttering that statement couldn't have been serious, this relieves this tension and this usually produces a mildly pleasurable feeling. Maybe somebody will find it funny how I'm spelling out all kinds of obvious things in this post. Maybe not.

The first thing I thought of (and I'm surprised NONE of you remembered this) was this: I shouldn't bring up the topic of that famous "blind" guy (Jordan) who used audio and tactile cues to beat OOT. I can't remember if it was a hoax or not, but it did generate controversy. Apologies in advance if it wasn't a hoax, and I come off as insensitive. I don't think there's anything wrong with people with disabilities wanting to TAS Ocarina of Time. But one thing you shouldn't let yourself do is get obsessed with TASing. Don't spend hours and hours of your life and strain your eyes and get carpal tunnel syndrome (like most of us here). Do it as a release of stress, do it as a hobby, or do it as a way to challenge/reward yourself, but don't let it take over your life. I know people here will make jokes about all they do is TAS, but I'm willing to bet that if someone with aspergers/autism starts TASing, it's not the healthiest of hobbies to get involved in, and their quality of life will suffer.
