From what I understand, it seems like hex editing the TAS without desyncs is now proven viable by brianpso, so we are able to go back and reTAS a couple of stages. We're only planning to do this with two stages: Radical Highway (I just want to TAS more Shadow sorry lol I added another 2 months to the release date bc I wanted to have fun. It'll be worth it tho). and Egg Quarters (there's a lot of time to save here with modern movement developments). 2025 release is still looking strong. I really hope we can finish this thing because it's been 7 years at this point since we started it.

Niczur finished his TAS of Sonic Story!!! Not sure when release date is, he's been posting about working on the encode throughout the day today in the TASing discord. I just figured I'd share the news here. This TAS is a huge improvement over the old Sonic Story, new optimizations and movement techniques all over the place -everything I've seen of it is extremely clean and very impressive. Get Hype, this is gonna be a good one...

My Amy Story TAS hasn't been worked on since 2021, but I'm sure I'll get around to it someday... I have TAS IL record in all 3 of her stages if you want to check out the IL TASes. Regarding Knuckles: I don't really know much about his specific toolkit, but it looks pretty limited. He doesn't really have any actions that build speed, so you'd be stuck using geometry and unique circumstance to capture or maintain speed. His punch is slow, his jump is slow, his roll is mediocre, and his glide feels limited. On the other hand, I'm not sure that anyone has extensively looked into TAS-only exploits with Knuckles. He might have undiscovered tech. Not sure about digging up speedshoes, etc. Not my area of expertise.

Sky Rail is completed now. 3 stages remain (plus some boss fights). We're also exploring a little bit with redoing some areas in previous stages... At the moment it's uncertain whether or not we will be able to make edits and have the run still sync. This game has a rather annoying issue with lag frames causing desyncs when hex editing. Hopefully it's possible to make it all sync, even if it takes some effort to reTAS areas effected by lag, because there are a couple changes we could make in earlier stages and I'd like to see them in the finished project. (Saving time in earlier levels will also potentially change optimal RNG seeds for subsequent hunting stages, and that could be either really good, i.e. we get a better layout -or, really bad, if we save a big chunk of time but lose RTA later on needing to wait on manipulating a hunting stage piece layout). Thanks for the luck. I really can't wait to get this project finished and share our work with everyone who's been eagerly waiting all these years!

As a quick update: We're about 50% of the way through Route 280 now, and I've already gone ahead and labbed a bit on the later stages. Sky Rail, Mad Space, and Final Chase should all be relatively quick stages to produce...Cosmic Wall on the other hand will likely hold us up for some time. Given it's almost September already, I doubt this TAS will finish before the new year. But completion is finally looking within reach -as opposed to painfully distant. I hope it's worth the wait.

So would it be reasonable to expect the full Dark Story run to be submitted by the 10th anniversary of the Hero Story submission? :)
Oh my God... that is terrifying. I didn't realize it's almost been a decade since the Hero Story TAS... The real answer is that it's pretty unlikely to happen. It surely isn't impossible (The Hero Story TAS was made in only ~8 months iirc), but pretty much everyone on the TAS team these days has much more going on in their lives and progress is hindered significantly by that. Sometimes someone is just busy for months at a time and nothing gets done without them. (Not to mention, optimization standards are way higher now). That said, now that we're getting progress made again, maybe momentum will pick up (hopefully). It would be nice to see this project finished.

Surprisingly, it seems faster to remain oob after collecting the Magma Pool Power Bomb. It's only 2.6s saved in this comparison, but compared to my 2016 TAS, this is an 8 second improvement. That lands me approximately 1 minute and 20 seconds ahead at this point, just within the first 4 minutes of the run. Link to video

It's using the 2020....modified build of....version 4.0-4222 (with added TAS-Studio!!). Newer Dolphin builds house far too many 'features' that make efficient TASing a non-option. You want a Metroid Prime TAS from me, then you either get 4.0 or you get nothing. Also,

I think I recall part of the rational for rejecting the Battle for Bikini Bottom any% TAS. It used a Dolphin build modified for consistent loads in that game (and that TAS did sync). Dimon12321 could have been alluding to this? Doesn't much matter. I have no intention of submitting TASes to this site, I am just sharing my work in this thread that would be dead without my updates🤠. Speaking of which, yesterday I found two new techs: Flickbomb: Using the flick mechanic as a bomb goes off will add approx 2 Zspd, allowing for much higher BSJ, RGBJ and wallboosts. Link to video And, the S-Curve jump: which uses a very precise window to bend a jump forwards and transition to bending it backwards (or vice versa) without losing speed. Link to video It also works on dashes. Link to video This tech grants TASer (me) much more control over Samus' jump path, meaning more control over trajectory and location of each landing of a jump. Navigating tight spaces with dashes and bunny hops will now be much more optimal.

All new Cheat% TAS dropping this Thursday, Oct 13th, most optimized TAS of BfBB by wide margin. Sub minute end-time if loads times are converted to Xbox length (TAS was made on Gamecube emu because better tools, despite slower loads). Stay tuned...

For the first ~10 years of this game's history, out of bounds was actually banned in the SDA ruleset, so this would really be more of a blast to the past. I do think that a No OoB TAS would be quite cool though, the movement in this game is way more visually appealing when you can see what's happening in all honesty. Maybe someday a project can be made, but right now I think all the active TASers are working on 100% and low% which both use a lot of out of bounds.

Infinite Speed is now possible practically anywhere that Samus can get out of bounds. Previously it relied on very very specific collision requirements and only a handful of viable spots existed in game. Now any floor is fair game as long as it's outside the aether box of the previous room Link to video

New exploit I call Astral Projection, allows Samus to move around semi-freely in collision which she was occupying space within upon the collision loading in. This lets you move around and collect items near walls and then be able to clip outside of the wall afterwards, avoiding what used to be a softlock. Link to video Link to video Link to video The final clip solves a new TAS route for 100% which I imagine will save a substantial amount of time.
