I would love proper savestate support for Windows 7. Will the upcoming Hourglass Ressurection have good compatibility for windows 7 and better savestate support?
Hi guys. Will Hourglass ressurection allow us to use savestates/loadstates in our PC games? I am looking for a program that supports savestates in *ANY* PC game. Are there any alternatives out there?
Hi guys, I was just wondering, can someone post a NON-ASSISTED and normal speed casual run of Castlevania SotN in a "input/replay file" format? I just wanna watch someone play through he game casually, take their time and explore as much as the castle as they can. An "exploration" run if you will with no cheating or save state usage.
Any replay files of this?
Hi guys, I'm back after an enormous break and just wanted to say hi. Anything new going on here at TAS?
I kinda forgot how to navigate the forum so I have a few questions...
A)Which part of the forum can I go to request movie files for Sega Master System? I'm looking for Kung-Fu Kid and The Ninja
B)Which part of the forum can I go to request movie files for Sony Playstation? I'm looking for Castlevania SotN.
C)Which part of the forum can I go to request movie files for the Commodore Amiga? I'm looking for well, everything! lol
This is a post I just made regarding a discussion similar to this one over at the zsnes forums:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
GIL and Paulguy, thanks for the explanation and clarification guys, it's appreciated.
I have been exploring both Ustream and JustinTV for the past few hours or so, and here are my thoughts:
Both programs/websites are very innovative introductions into the world of spectating people play games. The whole concept is nothing short of SUPERB! The execution, well, not quite as spectacular.
Main problem is, after watching the way a lot of people set up their upstream broadcast methods, I think it's painfully obvious why spectating people play snes games via input emulation can't come soon enough. Out of the many streams I've visited, only a handful were of quality I'd label as exceptional.
A lot of them were quite choppy and some of these people even stream via camcorder off their TV sets  I am not trying to bash the streamers....not at all. The less than stellar output quality boils down to the nature of the internet and how live streaming works. I fully get that. That is precisely the reason why I love GGPO so much. GGPO is the ideal application for spectating games IMHO. If only Ponder(GGPO author/admin) would spread his wings and add a little diversity to the program instead of focusing solely on fighting games, it would so much better.
If Grinvader and the remaining ZSNES crew, or xkeeper over at TASV, can fullfill their goal of implementing some sort of spectating feature, then I'm confident we will have a good chance of bringing over a large part of the UStream/JustinTV crowd and adapting them to this method of spectating snes games. This is something I will DEFINITELY work hard at once the feature is in place.
In the meantime, let's hope more people who currently stream at UStream/JustinTV will attempt to improve their streaming setup by using emulators as the video capture source, rather than their TV and a handycam, as well as not running their mouths and talking over the game's audio every 5 seconds, which is another annoyance I've noticed
Thanks for the reply. Very interesting info. On a side note, Grinvadar from the ZSNES team has replaied saying that some sort of online spectating/broadcasting feature is on one his "TO DO" lists which is very encouraging.

I like this idea very much. Perhaps this is how Ponder does it with ggpo.
wellbe, do you happen to know how I may get in contact with the gentlemen who uploaded this vid? I would like to ask him if he would mind sharing the input replay file with me.
non-tool-assisted runs in the form of emulator input files, which are quite hard to find.
Indeed they are Derakon, indeed they are :(
That "Let's see you play something" thread is the closest I've gotten to collecting the few rare non-TAS files. Shame
You have me all wrong. You were so pumped it was funny, and I was enjoying it. Additionally, I felt the exact same way when I discovered this site. I just wasn't as vocal as you are.
:D
I felt the exact same way too, but back then, it was just Morimoto and Bisqwit with a grand total of 8 or so movies to choose from.
Hehe, even with just eight, I would have have been satisfied for the time being :)
On a side note, I REALLY hope SDA will open their arms to replay input files someday. There's gotta be a way to verify legitimacy with some emu tools.
Xkeeper....Here is a copy and paste of *part* of a reply I posted in the ZSNES forums yesterday:

My ultimate goal though, is to one day see an snes emu, whether it be zsnes, bsnes (btw i am dumb) or snes9x, that will bring together a large online community where we can gather and watch each other play the games Live!!! Kinda like what GGPO does, but with snes games instead.
A netplay client that becomes very popular and has lots of people join in a lobby, where all we have to do is click on a "watch" button and proceed to spectate someone(or two) casually playing Super Mario Allstars. And at the top of the screen in the right hand corner it says "500 spectators". Call me an oddball, but that is a scenario I would KILL for! My gaming life would be complete!
Suffice to say Xkeeper, that after reading your description in that Youtube video, I am very excited to see what you will be able to accomplish with this project!
Netplay for old school emulation is simply not getting enough love in the emu community. Why anyone would frown upon the idea is beyond me. We need to get together and show the fighting game fans that it's not only about netplay to compete with each other, it's about the enjoyment that spectating brings. GGPO is gaining popularity by the day. But GGPO focuses on fighting games mainly, and things like live spectating is just a side benefit. I want to see a netplay client where the focus is "game broadcasting". And being able to watch someone play live and WITHIN the emulator...but for consoles rather than arcade.
Here's to seeing where this idea goes :)
Thanks for the reply Baxter. Yeah sorry for bumping thread, it's just that I got so excited reading it and was hoping some of the old posters who posted those links would come in and provide some new movies, or some wokring links to the ones that are dead. You came and provided some great links however, so many many thanks for those. I will certainly check out those vids ASAP!
God I wish I was around when this thread was active. I would have been pumping my fists all up in this party :)
Hopefully we can gather more replays from the community here at TASVideos. C'mon guys don't be shy! Post those YI vids lets see whatcha got! I'm DYING to see some NON-assisted skill runs in a 100% playthrough from start to finish, played at a casual pace.
Nach, I'm sorry to say but you've got me confused with someone else. I've honestly never heard of msys and don't even know what the term "compile with msys means". Perhaps it's another Isamu. Or maybe an Isamu123 or some other name. The only things I've requested from you and the rest of the zsnes team was an eta on a new build containing improved netcode, and more recently, the movie file bookmarking feature. If you find a post by "isamu" asking about msys, I'd certainly be interested in seeing it. Other than that, good work man.
Well, glad you're enjoying another one of my projects. Although I doubt I'll be adding msys support to the site any time soon.
Haha, and what a fine project you've created Nach. I know I know...shame on me for not noticing this place earlier. I honestly don't know how I missed it. I suppose it was due to me being more focused on getting some of my close friends online to play the games with. I also did not have such a hard on for spectating other folks play the way I do now. It would have been great to have found TAS Videos back then.
Sorry but what on earth is msys? You guys and your acronyms
Wow, I'm shocked. You're enjoying something without msys.
Sticky and Nach.....
You have to put yourself in my shoes guys. The games from the snes era represent a very nostalgic and enjoyable time for me. Growing up, I would have never dreamed we'd have the technology in computers, that would allow us to achieve some of the things we have today in gaming software. It's mind boggling. Snes era games are some of my favorite. Don't get me wrong the new 3D stuff this gen is cool too, but nothing beats the golden era of old school 2D console and arcade gaming.
So Sticky, you'll have to excuse me if I come off as an overhyped 12yr old turning cartwheels on Christmas day. This website basically came out of nowhere so I'm just basking in its glory :)
Guys where do I donate? Seriously, right now I'm with my girl and we are in the middle of watching a Super Mario World casual run called "Me Failing at SMW", complete with popcorn and drink, and we are fucking LOVING IT!!!!! Seriously this is way way WAAAAAAAAAAY better than watching anything on cable television! And adelikat....the movie snapshot/savestate trick is the BOMB!! I love how you can "rewind" anytime you want by using movie snapshots! It's so awesome.
I can't believe this website isn't more popular than it is. I mean seriously.....WHERE IS EVERYBODY??? Are there that gamers these days who don't appreciate what kind if enjoyment old school emulation brings to the table? Pffft....kids these days. Absolutely pathetic.
I'm 37yrs old and watching these replay files not only brings back memories, but I'm having some of most enjoyable moments in all my time in gaming, right as I type this. So fucking cool.
So again, where do i donate?
Both of the above link are bad. Can you please re-upload the movie file Michael? And is it a emulated input replay file or an actual video? I'd prefer an input replay file.
This thread is fucking *A*W*E*S*O*M*E*!!!!!
I'm loving some of the replay files, guys. Please please PLEASE post more! I am requesting NON-tas "normal" played replay files of the following:
(SNES)
1)Yoshi's Island
2)Donkey Kong Country
3)Super Mario World
4)Super Punch Out
5)Legend of Zelda ALttP
6)Final Fantasy VI
7)Breath of Fire II
8)Lufia II
(Sega Master System)
1)Kung Fu Kid
2)The Ninja
3)Black Belt
4)Quartet
(Sega Genesis)
1)Landstalker
2)Phantasy Star IV
3)Outrun
That's pretty much it. Feel free to post replay files for any of the above mentioned games, REGARDLESS of how bad you think they suck. I enjoy watching them more than the TAS speed run replays because it makes you look more human, and watching them reminds me of me playing LOL :)
Simply make a savestate. When you want to resume, open the replay file (in read-only mode) and load that state.
Tried it and it works! Awesome. It also appeared that even though I grabbed the snes9x 1.43, I *still* had the wrong version. It appears I needed "improvement 9". For the two movies I've tried so far, improvement 9 seems to do the trick.
I'm loving this so far!
The only thing, to be brutally honest, is that these are all Tool Assisted runs. That's cool and they look nice, but I prefer to watch movie files that are just "normal" runs. Runs that are pure skill without the tool assists. Runs that are not so fast, but are played at a somewhat normal pace.
Can you tell me which part of the site/forum contains these types of runs, or what search parameters I should use to find them? If not, where's a good place to find them. Mostly snes and nes of course.
1.43 worked!!! Thanks a bunch moozooh!!!

I think what he means by bookmark is a way to resume watching from where he left off, in which case yes there is. Simply make a savestate. When you want to resume, open the replay file (in read-only mode) and load that state.
REALLY? Awesome I'm going to try that later on when I wake up. Thanks for the tip!
You guys are ridiculously awesome!!!
Interesting replies guys, thanks for the clarification.
OK...I have just attempted to play two snes movie files within Snes9x 1.51_Win32: A Legend of Zelda and a Super Mario Allstars file, and on both of them I am getting an error saying "Unsupported Movie Version" and that I need to run a different version of Snes9x to run the file.
Problem is, the description of these files on the website do not say which version of the emulator is required to run them properly. Is there a way around? What is the most common version of snes9x that is compatible with most of the movie files?
