I also have a full run of an older version of Amy@S1 with completely spindashless Amy.
It's crazy how fast the time is, it's now 9 years old, but I clearly remember myself TASing it, like it was a few weeks ago.

I'm actually sorry about not being active recently; the reason is kinda stupid — my Linux laptop broke, I'm currently using a MacBook with an Apple M1 chip, and I doubt I can run anything suitable for TASing here. And I kind of don't want to buy something new for now — as I need to have a quite expensive surgery first.
Oh, and by the way! Why didn't you use the pause trick on the final boss of the game? You clearly lost some seconds there, as the last visible time in your run is 1:13, while I got 1:10. Do you mind redoing it if I explain how to perform it?

I would try to implement detection of TAS in the game engine (by detecting certain input patterns) and display a troll text like “This is a tool-assisted speedrun. See TASvideos.org for more info”, like shown in the official TASvideos encodes, it would be funny if the game displayed it by itself :-D

The most important thing about this improvement is the fact that you shouldn’t always follow the most obvious and most traditional routes when the physics are changed so much…
By the way, I also improved Green Hill Zone act 2, once again with very little efforts; I wonder if I should turn this into a project for a new submission :)

I really loved watching your run! But…
What if I say that I have just made Green Hill Zone more than a second faster in a very quick attempt with a cup of coffee? =D
But well, I am still going to vote Yes, because I certainly find the run entertaining.

Looks quite good for me, but I didn’t try to improve it.
My only question would be about CNZ2 boss: is it really worthy to waste time to collect some extra rings before the boss to turn hyper there? I highly doubt if it saves more time than it wasted.
Also, this game actually allows 3P mode (when you control all three characters at the same time), but I assume this is an 1P mode run.

I know some of you always felt uncomfortable seeing Doctor Eggman run faster than Sonic (Knuckles, Amy, …) in the final boss zone of Sonic 2 and it’s hacks, so I decided to make a short video showing how it looks if you actually get ahead of him :-D

The author of this hack is a TASvideos member & TASer marzojr, better to ask him if the hack is finished or not.
As about the quality of the run itself, all I can say is that it looks very improveable for my eye…

As I told, my run is quite a quick attempt. In this game it is very important to keep your eye on the direction buttons and when to press/unpress them. It’s all because of the air & ground speed cap. It’s especially annoying during the jumps from running state, when your speed goes above 1536 for some frames, but soon drops below, and you need to “catch” that exact moment and start pressing the direction button. I didn't really go for it, and still got a better time. But your run is also very good for a first TAS, I have to admit it.
Honestly Sonic 1 & Sonic 2 (and their hacks) are probably not the best ones for the first attempt. Sonic 3, S3&K and their hacks are a lot easier to TAS, I would better recommend them for the practice.

Well, I love how the special stages are done, looks well optimized for me. But the same question again, what’s the goal of going for the emeralds? What does it change? Voting Meh.

Honestly, I didn’t really enjoy watching this. It just doesn’t differ enough from the any% TAS, and the only noticeable difference (the special stages) is quite boring to watch.
Metropolis 1 does not use the recently discovered level-wrap. Wing Fortress zone is messed up, especially the boss fight. You shouldn’t fall into the boss room, staying inside the ceiling is an important time saver. In AIZ, up-loop jumps are missing, the nesessary rolling in the loops is missing, glide-landing during the down-loop jump is also missing. With all of that, you’d build much greater speed from the loops. Zurggriff’s run is an example of brilliant, Aglar-standard optimization. The additions are just not as good.
Personally I would prefer watching an improvement of the ring attack of this game. I tried some places and found many improvements, though I am lazy to do the whole game.

You are wrong, going Super does not save time on EHZ boss. It’s already frame-perfect.

How to perform the ARZ2 boss pause trick? Is it based on watching the PLC queue pointer, like in Sonic 1?
If so, can anyone give me the RAM address?
(upd) I have found this, which is very useful. Already discovered the P1 status address (0xFFB022), which can be used, for example, to determine if the player 1 is dead. Will return to the ARZ2 boss later.

Atsu, your run looks very good, hope to see more from you.
I am now trying Sonic 2 Pink Edition with Cream, having some trouble trying to perform a “monitor madness” as Cream, I wonder if it can be impossible because of her smaller hitbox.

I remember a game called Ultimate Flash Sonic, hope someday it gets some attention ^^

Yeah, I’d be happy if you manage to beat the MGZ boss. For now the problem is not that it takes longer than usual, but that it makes Tails want to sleep instead of finishing the act =D

Keep in mind that it’s not much optimized, most improvement comes from very different routes and strategies. You may want to redo it.
I also need help with the MGZ boss, I would kindly ask marzojr or whoever can help, to explain me what’s the trick about that boss. I remember successfully beating that boss myself many times in the past, but it seems I completely forgot the right way of doing it, I only remember it‘s kind of tricky.
