This run is aimed to complete the game as fast as possible! I saw the run of Sonic 3 & Amy Rose by WST & Marzojrand thought why not do it on this hack (BPS patch) of Sonic 1! And if you're wondering "Why did you use an older version?" Well there was a small change that allowed my to hammer whirl downwards off of the giant step jump in version 2.1 (One off from the latest) and that was used for the Marble Zone act 1 level wrap...

Game Objectives

• Complete the Game as fast as possible
• Made mainly for speed instead of entertainment (Contains speed/entertainment tradeoffs)
• Aims for in-game time instead of real-time
• Takes damage to save time
• Abuses programming errors
• Genre: Platform

About the Hack

[Moderator Edit: Do not link to websites that host copyright protected materials (e.g. game ROMs)]
Amy Rose in Sonic the Hedgehog (aka Amy in Sonic 1) is a character swap hack of the game Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Mega Drive, with character Amy Rose as playable character in place of Sonic the Hedgehog. The games' sprites (modified from Sonic CD) use Amy's initial design prior to Sonic Adventure. The game was modified by Sonic Retro member E-122-Psi, with additional programming and coding by other members including MarkeyJester, Aquaslash, Selbi and Hayate. Amy Rose in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic 3 and Amy Rose are sequels to this hack. This character hack is the most complete, with special moves and fully playable game.

Amy's abilities mirror those she utilized in Sonic Advance. She has a number of abilities (mostly using her Piko Piko Hammer) to gain manueverability and access areas Sonic had difficulty reaching:
• Hammer Attack: Press A and Amy swings her hammer, damaging enemies. In addition, Amy can use her hammer to smash obstacles such as walls and hit springs.
• Hammer Jump: Press Down + A on the ground and Amy smashes the hammer into the ground, launching her into the air.
• Hammer Whirl: Press Down + A in the air and Amy swirls down toward the ground. If an enemy is hit Amy will bounce up again.
• Upward Dash: Hold Up + B/C while on the ground and Amy will rev her feet on the spot as opposed to a spin dash. Let go of Up to charge full throttle in the facing direction. Be careful though, Amy is vulnerable to blockading obstacles and enemies.
• Giant Steps: Press Down + B/C while on the ground and Amy will take a giant step forward as opposed to a spin dash. This can be repeated so long as there is room. This move is good for getting up steep slopes; she can even get up slopes the others can't spin dash up!
Since these implements were added, this makes Amy WAY faster than Sonic in this game...

Special thanks

Zekann for the Previous run!
WST and Marzojr for their Sonic 3 & Amy Rose run that inspired me to make this run!
• Everyone else who helped me along the way!!!

eien86: Claiming for judging.

eien86: A highly entertaining and even more highly optimized run of this Sonic The Hedgehog hack.
Thanks to CoolHandMike for syncing and giving his opinion. I was able to independently sync it too so it shouldn't be a problem for the encoder. All details can be found in CHM's post

despoa: Processing...

This is the second time we've had to remove links to game ROMs from your submissions. First was #9189: ShiningProdigy9000's Genesis Robotnik's Revenge "any%" in 04:46.65. The Sonic website your submissions have referred to is notorious for uploading whole modified game ROMs instead of patch files, and the particular pages you linked to are no exception. They contain obvious downloads to the modified ROMs. While it's possible you may not have seen the previous edit (even though you did edit that submission afterwards), all submissions are already expected to uphold the site rules. As such, consider this an official warning. If you do this again, action will be taken against you.

Thanks for the warning! I had a slight feeling this would happen, as that site is mainly used for rom hacking and not patch files. (And sorry for not seeing the previous edit). I won’t post from that website anymore.

Seeing Amy this ridiculously OP here makes one wonder if she let herself get kidnapped on purpose in CD just because she thought playing the damsel in distress would get Sonic to fall in love with her. Or maybe she intended to be a big distraction for Robotnik all along and make Sonic's job easier in that game. (I'd be very curious if the budding "Sonic Movieverse" ever touches this subject...) Anyway, Yes vote for the crazy speed and clipping.

For your information, I have a much faster WIP of the mentioned run by me & marzojr, it needs to be finished though, which I am not sure I will ever do...

Interesting insert character that has some unique moves that plays differently from sonic, tails, or knuckles. Liked this one! I can also verify this syncs to the end since I watched it in gens11b. No camera hack version or anything needed to sync. Gens11b looks available on this page https://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources/Gens. The patch can also be acquired here https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1018/. The tool used to apply the xdelta patch can be found at https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/704/.

Wow, it's faster by 20 seconds!
TASing is like making a film: only the best takes are shown in the final movie.

It's not correct to compare them directly; it's a different hack.

I wanted to make sure that the hack resembles the S3K Amy hack. Which is why I didn’t use “Pink Edition”

I also have a full run of an older version of Amy@S1 with completely spindashless Amy. It's crazy how fast the time is, it's now 9 years old, but I clearly remember myself TASing it, like it was a few weeks ago. Link to video I'm actually sorry about not being active recently; the reason is kinda stupid — my Linux laptop broke, I'm currently using a MacBook with an Apple M1 chip, and I doubt I can run anything suitable for TASing here. And I kind of don't want to buy something new for now — as I need to have a quite expensive surgery first. Oh, and by the way! Why didn't you use the pause trick on the final boss of the game? You clearly lost some seconds there, as the last visible time in your run is 1:13, while I got 1:10. Do you mind redoing it if I explain how to perform it?
