Hello everyone! I've been keeping an eye on the Undertale speedrunning scene and a whole bunch of new glitches were discovered very recently! Most importantly, using the item 'Punch Card' with perfect precision allows for dialogue/cutscene skips, OOB tricks, and even mild wrong warping. With this discovery, a pure neutral run will be much faster than a genocide, and it should be easy to complete the game in under an hour. We still don't know how many time saving wrong warps are possible. In the best case scenario, this would make for an extremely cool tas where Frisk is ignoring everyone left right and center while teleporting all over the place It's a shame that we still lack the software to do it, because it's all there conceptually.

Just watched it. Great stuff. Makes a nice change from the same old glitches we see on SM64 runs. Especially loved the entrance to the 2nd bowser level.

The one main problem with TASing this game is that the best times have already been achieved on almost all of the levels, with only about 5 out of the original 149 worth seeing TASed due to requiring insane boosting or luck manipulation. I've been part of the CC community for a couple years and I can assure you that new faster times will keep coming out for the newer levels for a long time yet. Of the original levels, a TAS that just plays through certain levels could also work. i.e. blobnet, doublemaze, cakewalk and other ones like that.

^ LOL My vote many pages back was a yes, and having now read this flame wa-err i mean discussion, my vote is still a yes. Having seen so many previous runs and having a good idea of what to expect out of mario given the tiny improvement, I was actually glad for some alternate camera angles to mix things up. People seem to be making a massive deal out of it on the forum, but i'm betting that a lot of people such as myself simply didn't see it as an issue. And as Personman said, it can be fun to have mario blitzing around in a seemingly more chaotic manner.

Improvement to an already insanely optimal run. Yes. I believe that leaves 135 frames to be saved to make it sub 5:00. Wonder whether that will ever happen.

As someone else has already mentioned, there is at least one more star that can be collected without pressing a. Nonetheless a great run.

Some bits such as the ending to stage 14 didn't quite seem optimal. But overall it was pretty fun to watch, and there were a few good high speed/danger moments in there, so a yes vote from me.

You seemed to take damage at times where it looked like it may be slower to do so a few times. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that that is not the case. Yes vote. This is easily better than what I would have managed!

Good job quoting Nahoc out of context there :/ I'm voting yes. Why? Firstly there are several strategies in place that wouldn't be seen in either the 0 or 120 star runs (i.e. the mips glitch, different bljing around the castle etc. etc.). Secondly there are some games in the TAS community that are a LOT more popular than others, and are probably more deserving of having multiple categories. SM64 is in my opinion one of those games that is popular enough to warrant having 3 or 4 categories. Besides which, a 120-star run isn't coming up in the near future and it seems a little silly to only have one up-to-date category when there are so many people who are contributing towards TASing this game. And as SL has pointed out, this is arguably the most fun to watch category of them all, and should be considered on that merit. Good to see some lively debate around here ;)

That is awesome! Happy holidays indeed. I didn't realised the wall kicks in that game were anywhere near that broken. Shame it wouldn't be any use in the other louie level.

Obviously this has had speedruns of it in the past with especially built emulators. The question is, given that the current records are known to not be optimal, would they be beatable using a current version of DosBox+rr/JPC-rr? I've also been toying with the idea of doing an IDCLIP run (not to submit to the site, but just for the sake of it). Would DB or JPC be better to use right now for making a TAS of this game?

I think the 6F was a hexadecimal number, not 6 floors. Easy yes vote. I wonder whether further improvements to this will ever be found now?

Found a bit of time to continue on with this. I've saved 263 frames, but lost 10 during the boss fight. I'll go back over that before continuing. I think i just made the mistake of waiting at one point when i probably shouldn't have. One interesting thing i noticed was that not walking/(tounging?) in a perfectly straight line usually didn't cause any frames to be lost. For example, in the room before the boss where the previous run ran in quite a wobbly fashion i still only managed to save ONE frame by running very straight. Also, I already know of a few good time savers that can be implemented later on; especially in kids land! Wait and see.

Having never played the game before, i liked being able to (sort of) follow along with the plot as it played out. There was significantly more gameplay than cutscenes anyway. In terms of a ratio it IS at least better than SM64 ;) Also: "I AM A GOD" *blasted to pieces in seconds* bahaha yes vote from me.

At about 4:10 in the youtube encode, you stutter on the step for a few seconds. Just out of curiosity, what is the purpose of that? Very optimal looking run btw.

A Kirby TAS on the DS? Yes please! Yes vote from me, as far as i could tell it looked quite optimal, and the pretty music and colours combined with the skilled wheel maneuvering were enough to keep me entertained and stopped the movie from feeling too repetitive. Now if we can just find someone with the time to do canvas curse ;)

Alright cool. Just had a little playaround with MHS, but it seems that several different values for speed are used depending on whether going around a pole or just running etc. Not that the speed is very interesting, it tends to stay at a constant 20.8 whether running or jumping. I'm about a 3rd of the way through the first level and have saved ~20 frames so far, i'll post up a WIP when i've finished the first level!
