Seeing as people are complaining about how many errors I have in my run, I'm probably going to just scrap it. I'm not really in the mood to redo everything.
- Are you sure the start game menu cant be reached sooner?
Sadly, No. I mashed the buttons the entire time to get to the game's main menu.
- Why did you stop and jump on the first level before the guard, was that really needed?
I think so. Every time I tried running at him without jumping, he always killed me when I jumped passed him. For some reason, making him walk forward a bit made it work better.
- Are you testing which routes seem faster? because on level 2 you passed by the guard and then had to climb something facing right, it felt that the first path up would have been faster.
True, but I didn't want to fight him because that guard always seems to block alot of hits. I just felt it was better to skip him.
- Dont defend when fighting the guards, also, i think it seems faster to just kill the 3 HP guards instead of passing them.
When I didn't try to defend, they always opened with a quick attack. So I only guarded when fighting guards that did that. Sometimes it's faster to kill the 3HP guards, but sometimes it's better just to skip them.
- Always jump when running if there is enough room to.
I try to make sure I do. Sometimes when recording, I try that, and he just ends up falling to his death.
- On level 3, after the closing gate, when the ground falls you have grabbed the top ledge, its possible to let it fall further and grab the ledge below instead.
Eh.... I don't really want to bother with having to redo it all over again.
Thanks for your input.
Also, since I made some mistakes, my controller kinda sucks and the button input is lagged or doesn't respond at all.
Little update. I started over with your suggestion and I'm now at level 13 with 99 minutes remaining. I still don't know if that's good or not. If you want to see what I have so far and criticize me download it here.
Levels 1-10
As in the demo? I guess so. Although, there could have been some points in the demo where a few frames here and there could have been shortened.
Oh, about the code, I found it in a walkthrough.
I'll probably work on it tomorrow. I'm not going to show it now. I plan on getting to level 10 tomorrow.
*EDIT
I got a little impatient and went to level 10 anyway. If you want, I can throw what I have so far on here to see what you guys think. The demo itself is almost 20 minutes.
Btw, the japanese version has a debug mode and i couldnt find the damn code anywhere on the internet. I used to own a japanese cart 10 years ago, and the magazine gave the instructions to the code. I only remember the first part:
- go to password, input "SPECIAL" and click OK. you will hear a different sound, then cancel, start the game. in the game, pause and enter the sequence.
This sequence is what i dont remember, but it was somthing involving almost all snes buttons, without repetition, almost like the capcom street fighter 2 code.
I remember on that debug mode there a sound test, and there was a music that i coulndt find anywhere in the game.
I actually found that code on a walkthrough in gamefaqs. This is the code:
Pause the game and then press buttons in this order: B, Y,
Up, Down, Left, Right, L, R, then press Start + Select to enter the cheat menu.
Also, the Japanese version has extra stuff in the intro movie as well.
I don't know if this is a good result or not, but I'm at level 7 with 108 remaining.
I'm in progress of making a run with this awesome game. Since no one would make a run for this awesome game, I decided to make one myself.
I had just recently beat all 20 levels (merely just a planning session) in a little over an hour. Sadly, there are hardly any glitches to exploit. So far, I'm about 35% done with the game.
There's only one thing I found out about the game (I bet it's been discovered before) to make it go a little faster, but I'm not going to reveal it :P
Input is appreciated.
The only invincibility in that level is a little after midpoint. After the alien space ship. The flying weapon crate has a Flamethrower in it at the begining of level 3.
I said no. Mainly because I felt that I could have been better. Although you were trying to get the fastest time, the way you were building stuff was kind of sloppy. Also you didn't play it on the hardest difficulty. As caitsith said, it would have helped in the money glitch execution.
Doing a No-Kill speedrun of Contra3 on hard is impossible. Even with slow motion. On hard, the sniper on Level 3 would be impossible to get past no matter how skillful you think you may be. Although there might be more than that, that was the only one I could think of.
Being that a no-kill speedrun of contra 3 would be impossible, I'm wondering if I should re-submit a less sloppy/more expert looking normal difficulty run.
Would you guys want me to do that?
One question: I'm still looking up to this day to get the Slow Motion option. Is it in a modified version of Snes9x? If so, where could I look for it so I can drastically improve this run?
