Ugh, having posted a yes vote, I have a bitter taste in my mouth due to those two major sprite-ejecton zips. Echoing others, it is noticable, and almost interrupts the flow of the game. But I do understand the authors opinion of not making the rules of the submission too arbitrary... it's a tough one.
The rest of the run is fantastic, though. The whole of Star Light Zone takes me back to my childhood days, as it was my fave level <3
And with all due repect Algar, having another run submitted without those instances may well curry favour with the community more, and therefore obsolete this run. Jus' sayin'
I noticed that too, although it somehow fixed itself towards the end the run. It was still rather annoying though...
Anyway, a great glitchy playaround. Lots of new and re-hashed glitches, and enough entertainment to keep me interested the whole run. Yes vote.
As a side-note, I seem to remember all 3 of these guys (especially Dark Noob) having several assorted runs of these games rejected/cancelled due to poor knowledge/planning/excecution. And many TASers seem to fall by the wayside at this point. So it's a credit to you three for persisting and bettering yourselves, and the community for the helpful support and advice that they need, as it's resulted in a publish-worthy run (IMO). Long may it continue!
Wow, what a game-breaking glitch. Anybody expecting any normal gameplay will be severly disappointed! Then again, that's not really what TAS's are all about :) I myself enjoy seeing games obliterated like this, so a yes vote from me!
I don't have much to say except I fully support your aims and goals Felipe.
I also have to say that your English has definitely improved from what it was a few months ago. Granted, you maybe using a translator, and it's still not fluent, but nonetheless your posts are becoming more comprehensible. Good job and keep trying!
I just watched through the whole 8 hours - it's a good job it's a bank holiday in england today! Although saying that I'd have bunked work to see this run...
And my opinion? Well, I could go through a list of superlatives to describe DK's effort, but it wouldn't be enough. The battle strategies took me by surprise first, they were all over in seconds thanks to an incredible amount of luck manipulation involved (kudos to whoever deciphered the RNG), and inspired use of early card battles and junctioning. Also that little 'walk through wall' glitch was a peach! All in all, it was a technical and visual marvel.
I'm trying to be as unbiased as i can be, but it's harrd not to be so nostalgic and fanboyish about it all. I Iove the game, I love the series and now I love the run.
YES vote. A million times over if I could. A true and worthy TAS to the site.
Lol. It does seem that way doesn't it. I was just going to say that the reason probably is the complex luck manipulation, intricate planning and such, but VIII and IX seem to be progressing slightly faster, so I digress.
Awesome stuff. That's a helluva lot of optimisation in not many minutes of game time - this run is gonna look fantastic! :)
PS, I've just lent my brother this so he can play it on his PS3 - It's only a matter of time before I'm spending more time at his house than in mine!
Just like SotN, the challenge of this game is severely undercut by its own mechanics, which hampers the technical impressiveness of a speed run. Unlike SotN, though, there's no "let me win that in less than 20 minutes" run to make impressive use of glitches in a reasonable timeframe. Instead, we watch a calculator murder everything in one turn for a few hours, which just isn't quite as fun.
Goddamn, that was well put.
A non-calc run would indeed be much more entertaining, but as to deciding on a original/patched version, I'm undecided. In a way, there's something not quite 'wholesome' about them. But if it really is good a patch as you guys are saying... who knows.
I do agree with toothache, despite wanting to see a 'perfect game'. But not half as much as I want to see the game blitzed ASAP... or as blitzed as you're ever gonna get with a modern RPG anyway!
At the end of the day though, it's not my final decision and it's not my TAS. Good luck exileut with whatever epic TAS you're about to embark on. :)
I often used to browse the forums for Desert Strike, I was starting to think it would never get the TAS treatment :) It was a fun game but it tested my patience to the limit. I just never got used to the controls... would've been a helluva lot easier with up/down/left/right direct controls rather than the clockwise/anticlockwise ones. IMO. :/
Good luck Toothache, am really looking forward to seeing this.
Ah the memories I have of this game - I must've spent months finding and scribbling down all the fruit combos down (obviously before the internet; and gamefaqs!), I still have them in the game case somewhere...
Anyway, good luck on the run. Just one question - will there be anywhere where fruit combos can be used to save time? It's been so long since I played it I can barely remember if there's any shortcuts at all... :(
The one audible laugh I got from it was more than a vast majority TASes. Yes Vote.
On the subject of how hard it is to make, that really shouldn't matter folks. This is not some pissing contest to see who can do 400k rerecords. This is a pissing contest to see who can make an entertaining movie.
Voted yes twice.
Well said. It was entertaining enough for me me to merit a yes vote anyway.
How old are you?
Don't worry, I bet we'll see a tas of this game someday, one way or another.
You're asking me? I'm 26 on wednesday. I was at the most influential of ages when this game was released, hence why I'm whining about seeing it broken... :)

...Ok.
Anyway. On topic. Has anyone found a way of avoiding the repeat Air buster battle yet? Is it an emulator problem or what? I'm seriously hoping the rest of the run goes smoother than this!
Wow. I've been away from this forum for several months... and I've missed a shedload! Don't you have TAS'er of the Year Award yet Inichi?? ;)
Let's hope you can put the item duplication trick to good use. Great find mate.
