I decided to try again on my MMZ4 100 points run. I am sure that chanses for getting published are low, as it starts from SRAM, but I just want to see this movie done ^^ My point of doing hard mode run: using enemy weapons at normal difficulty is almost always slower than charged saber and its combo. With those features disabled, the way I find more interesting becomes the best way. Feel free to disagree after watching WIP ^^ Here is the run of first 3 levels: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2941/mmz4-3.vbm I used Megaman Zero 4 (E) for recording. Hope you like it. Suggestions and hints are welcome ^_^ P.S. it uses this SRAM: http://savefile.com/files/297648 (don't forget to rename it to have same name as your rom) If you have problems with savefile.com, then decode (MIME-encoding is supported by Total commander for example) and unpack Megaman Zero 4 (e).b64

Why E ROM?

It will still run at 60 FPS and be in English, so... why not E ROM? However... Zefiris should also provide a from-start movie that creates the SRAM he uses, even an unoptimized one, if he wants this to have a better chance of being published. Either that, or use the same SRAM made by the published MMZ4 movie (which I think will work despite being a slightly different ROM).

Unfortunately, it does not work... Okay, I will make movie, creating sram needed to replay this movie. For now you can use file from first post (it's MIME (base-64) encoded, Total Commander for example can decode it, for linux there must be some tool too)

I read (in the previous submission probably) that people generally disliked hard mode in this game because it removed interesting abilities and just made the bosses longer and less varied. Probably 100p can be interesting, but will you at least consider not doing Hard mode?

Please, read first post... I explained why I want to play hard mode there.

I did read your first post. Especially the phrases * Hard mode restricts me from using charged Z-saber or Z-saber combos, as wel as EX-skills, ... * Overall damage of Charged Knuckle + Rolling attack with turning twice during it (so that all frames hit) is 7 + 12 = 19 points. This way boss battles become longer, of course, .... * ... so that movie does not get too boring with that poor variety of attacks I get with basic weapons. stood out. Which, again, makes me think it's not a spectacular idea. You suit yourself, of course, but I think people will react badly when it's submitted.

Published movie almost does not use weapons from enemies and always relies on the same attacks. I am going for different movie. I hope I can do it. Normal difficulty run is not any interesting to me as it won't be much different from currently published, just more enemies would get killed and no damage taken.

Actually, on multiple occasions Xaphan used enemy weapons, just not usually against bosses. I'm with truncated on this, limiting yourself in ways you can possible attack is kind of like shooting yourself in the foot, the results aren't exactly desirable.

Am I the only one who thinks that normal mode run will be almost the same as already published one?..

No, but that's because Xaphan's published movie is pretty close to the ideal. I would actually be pretty upset if a normal mode submission wasn't similar. Also, I am of the people that think that hard mode, while "edgy" and "different", is not any more entertaining than the normal mode publish is. Since your character will be weaker, you'll have to rely on either weaker repetition attacks (Knuckle + Roll), or use weapons that are stronger than this. Essentially, the only weapons you'll really use are the Axeloid Axes and the Daggers that Weil fires off. Any other items you can pull probably won't speed up anything beyond what is possible with the Knuckle+Roll combo. That isn't enough of a difference to really make it seem worthwhile. In fact, it's even more restricted than the published version, since it uses the EX Skills for interesting combos. Final Verdict: A hard mode submission will not be anywhere near as interesting as the published version. It will be longer, more repetetive, and third point here. That being said, if you're doing this without the hopes of it being accepted, go for it. Otherwise, if you do plan to submit this, I wouldn't hold your breath for an acceptance.

I was making a test run and found some useful things. I got to boss on ice level faster than xaphan in his run without optimizing much and using claw and top route instead bottom one(and getting 100 points). Of course, I had to fight boss longer, and it had time to show all of its attacks :D Okay, I see... Originally my point was that if run would be made with varying weapons - it would be slower than using ones, xaphan did. But if those weapons are not available then more entertaining way becomes the best way. Perhaps I was wrong, and boss battles will really kill this movie -_-

Well, I'm cheering for you, if only because of my (incomplete) Mega Man Zero 100% Hard Mode run. The criticisms here are the same I was receiving, of course, although I didn't receive any of the useful SRAM ideas then (probably because nobody has finished Mega Man Zero at all, though, which is completely my fault considering I was working on that run, too, and I'm on the last friggin level. Oh god, I want to work on it now... damn you failing hard drives! Damn you!!!)

Well, thx... However, I think my run can be improved a lot... I've already began to improve it but it's suspended for now as I'm running through MMZ2... For the improvement I'm using the (E) version of the rom... If anyone wants to continue it or help me improving MMZ4 run I'd be glad to share my work with him... For now I've improved the first two levels by a good amount of frames (do not have the number in head) and I plan to get the double jump foot chip to sae a LOT of time... though it requires changes in the boss order and a LOT (yes, again) of LUCK MANIPULATION... Well I'm an open-minded guy, and if anyone wants to improve the existent run along with me, i'd be happy... (using the (E) rom). And to conclude, I agree with Zurreco on the fact that hard mode run would only make the whole thing slower and not really interesting as hard mode restricts a lot the variety of attacks you can use making the run a lot more boring... Well... that's my opinion

If anybody cares.. ^__^ Level 2 is done http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2732/mmz4-2.vbm I found a way to kill boss much faster than in the movie I once submitted. I also got over that-place-with-tellybomb withi=out having to go all way down. The only downside is that I will have to get telybomb part in other place... ..hope somebody will at least watch it <_<

Maybe Zefiris and Xaphan should work together? :) Although Xaphan should watch out for Zefiris, his IRC nickname is Lazy_Zefiris :) I was tempted to ask if Xaphan would let me work with him because it would be a great experience to work on a GBA game for a change. But I must be a man and fulfill my words as Im more or less forced to quit TASing after the quadruple run.

3rd level: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2941/mmz4-3.vbm I succeeded in getting all 4 parts that could be only received early on this (or previous) level - faital ,c-hopper, ceratanium, gangagun ^_^ Now I can get double-jump... not much stolen weapons are used here, most are taken just to be thrown away (charged knuckle is stronger than saber slash, and stealing shield makes LamportX turn around). However, in most cases some enemy stands in the throwed weapon's way ^^

Hmmmmmmmmmm.... I post here as I need Zefiris SRAM... I cannot find it on my computer anymore, so I wanted to know if someone had an SRAM of the (E) version of MMZ4. The file must provides a finished game... If anyone has something like that... I'd be glad if you could share it ! Thx in advance !
