Proposal to have a megathread for all miscellaneous DOOM TASes, because there's quite a bunch of stuff that's not on the site. Here's a DOOM II Nightmare TAS by Zero-Master in 12:44, for a start. Link to video Here's a YouTube playlist with a bunch of them. Highly recommend checking them out.

I love that video. I've viewed it like 5 times already. Too bad it didn't get that many views comparing to the recent Looper's RTA in 17:55. My channel has several playlists which are dedicated to Doom TASing. Here they are: Eternal Doom UV-Max TASes (all 32 maps): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3V0eG1j-1vIfBNug6g8HF0UD6Cxtb-lW The Darkening: Episode 2 UV-Max TASes (by Andy Olivera): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3V0eG1j-1vJZ2LS8sMX78jtJcUwb3E10 Doom TASes which I made myself: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3V0eG1j-1vKG2_fTqocQ2oVVa6sENSoC

...is this seriously the first non-qualified thread we've had for Doom 1993? Everything I've found by searching has either been for a console port or the pacifist thread.

Not my demo, but Zero-Master did a UV-Fast (max) TAS demo of Okuplok's Slaughter map that takes no hits (but does take damage twice from unavoidable damaging floors). Quite the achievement of patience and routing. 23,211 monsters killed, no damage taken from them, including hitscanners. Unbelievable. Link to video This is what a non-TAS run (without -fast monsters) looks like, btw: 9 hours vs the 2.75 of the TAS.

Some unknown guy named Erik made a UV-Max TAS of this map in 2 hours 11 minutes just 1,5 weeks before Zero-Master. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_g1KyRNHDg So you can consider it "sniped". Nothing unbelievable is in here. Zero used DSDA-Doom which is a PrBoom+ folk that provides rerecording from keyframes (kinda like savestates) which speeds up slow-motion TAS production because you don't have to playback all your progress in order to continue recording from the moment where you left off.

Interesting! The ZM run definitely had some spots of unoptimized gameplay, and of course Erik's run does not have the same "no damage" requirement as ZM's, but I'm surprised to see that Erik's TAS is under 80% of the length as ZM's. I haven't watched Erik's so I wonder what accounts for such a difference in run length. I know kraflab only released DSDA-Doom in the last few months so perhaps ZM had it in the works for a long time using XDRE or another such workflow where optimization is a pain in the ass, and only finished it recently. Thanks for the link. :)

Plutonia: Revisited Community Project (2011) UV-Speed in 11:56. Link to video Even though it can be submitted, as it's fully built frame-by-frame and aims for the fastest time, most of the TAS isn't made by me. I just finished it (maps 28-30). BTW, Hock told me he had had an even faster run of Episode 1, but lost it due to the computer failure.

It is possible to do a Doom TAS using the Chocolate Doom Source port? That the closest thing to the DOS original , so no DOSBOX needed.

No, unfortunately, it's not possible. However, there is a source port called TASDOOM which is basically a wrapper over the original DOS Doom which lets you slow the game down and use game saves like savestates. Still, it's not as effective as frame-by-frame building.

Pretty simple on a paper. When a pain elemental shoots a lost soul, its initial height, if I remember correctly, is 8 game units higher than the player's point of shooting. Which means, when you shoot it, the rocket flies at a small angle up. If you step away far enough (point A) and shoot at the flying lost soul (point b), you can shoot a rocket so it flies just right into the Icon of Sin's hole.

I recently created a YouTube channel with the aim to post every single Doom TAS on dsdarchive.com. There's about 2,300 - 2,400 TAS demos to get through and I'm about 250 in so far, but more are coming! The unfortunate bottleneck is my monthly data limit preventing me from uploading more often. All videos are posted in 4k 60fps. A small amount of demo smoothing is applied to mitigate slow-mo jitteriness and the sharp snappiness of many fully built demos. The red screen effect upon damage is disabled because some TAS runs take quite a bit of damage, including deliberate damage boosts, and I chose to prioritize being able to clearly see what is happening. Other screen colour effects from certain powerups are unchanged. Dsda-dooms advanced HUD is active and show a bit of extra info: current vs total kills, items collected, time taken, and secrets collected. Every video description includes a copy of the text file submitted by the TAS author alongside the demo and left exactly as-is, unless doing so was too big for the video description in which cases I've manually pruned them and stated this clearly. A download link to the demo file+original text file is included in every description, as well as a download link to the custom map pack if the TAS isn't for one of the official games. Where the creation date isn't mentioned in the text file, I've checked the creation date of the demo file itself and included this. Playlists are created arranging all the demos by their particular map pack and by their author. It must be stated that Doom TASes do vary quite widely in quality, some are absolutely phenomenal and some fall short of non-TAS runs by a significant margin (to put it politely). While uploading I've made no attempt at distinguishing/ranking/rating them, but I'd happily point you to the "Movies" playlist for much of the really good stuff. Movies are any runs of more than 1 map, including full-game runs. A little late, but thank you very much! It was quite the project to have worked on! Certainly grateful for Matt's contribution as well.

I watched it immediately after scrimpeh posted it. I played Plutonia for hours and hours when I was a kid. I enjoyed watching this TAS immensely. Thanks for your hard work
