All of the web swinging pre-chapter 8 used a method of newbie swinging that, while not extremely slow... is still slower than the actually fast method. In this TAS, I use the fast swinging straight from the get-go.
All instances of Spider-Reflexes usage have been made frame perfect, and all spider-reflexes combos have been buffered where possible. This means the screen flashes much less often, and for shorter periods.
I reach full spider-reflexes before the first fight, allowing me to have a greater damage output.
Stayed closer to Black Cat in all chases except the first.
Placed civilians on the lamps in the theater instead of the balcony. They're safe; I don't want to hear it.
Used a different method to skip the first Shocker fight.
Purchased an upgrade that allows me to web two enemies at once, making the chapter 7 prisoner segment much shorter as well as helping in combat numerous other times.
Saved a small amount of time by jumping in the water when starting chapter 14, skipping the chapter transition.
Used a new method to get up walls.
All three Dock Ock fights are much faster.
The fight against Dock Ock's minions in the bank is much faster.
Took no damage this time around.
Numerous other things.
Uh... I submitted the wrong movie. Oops. I was supposed to submit the one that skips the end cutscene, but I accidentally submitted the one that uses it.
Anyway, this movie is the one that I wanted for publication. It uses the ending cutscene and THEN allows the credits to start, since input is required after the video.
Optimization looks good. I didn't watch through all of the previous run, but I couldn't spot any mistakes.
The web swing movement is very fun here. A bunch of the skips are also very interesting. I think there could be a little better management of downtime, but that's a relatively small complaint in the long run.
Yeah, unfortunate, but I felt like I tried everything to skip them. Maybe someday there will be a way to get around them, but until more people are running/TASing this game and experimenting, that day won't come.
Good TAS for the most part. I bought this game a couple years back while I was at AGDQ 2020 and it was fun until I got unavoidable disc read errors about halfway through the game.
I have one complaint really. I think towards the end of a Cat chase section you just sat still for a bit. I wonder if that's really necessary or if you could do some playaround during downtime. Some acrobatics, a glitch or maybe like shoot webs to the music I dunno.
Back when I had this as a kid, my disc was scratched, so during timed missions, the game would randomly freeze, but the mission timer would continue. I would have to pause the game to let the area load in until it was time to move again.
Cat chase bad. Unfortunately there aren't many glitches you can just do out of the blue, and I couldn't really sync webs to the music because I was using dolphin's cached interpreter engine, which runs so slow that the music and sound are too distorted to understand while TASing.
Always a treat to see a Nate TAS on the workbench. Thanks for all the great GC TASes so far!
I missed your previous run but I followed along by reading its submission text while I watched this one. Movement was surprisingly fast, and I liked all the tricks like falling into the water before saving the Statue of Liberty, skipping that whole Cat chase, and clipping into boss fights early, especially Shocker 2 when you followed it up with constantly bicycle kicking him. I voted Yes!
Some other funny parts:
29:55 "All right men, get him" as they all get taken out immediately
41:33 Peter is casually talking to himself and then surprise Cat (complete with music)!
notes to self for next time (or next person to make a TAS of this game):
- get a different token during the chapter 13 cat "chase" to save like 5 seconds
- keep swinging south after collecting the secret token in chapter 14 to make the load screen like 5 seconds faster
