Glad to see that you're still working on it. I've been looking forward to the new TAS for years. :)

To give an update on zipless: Seth Glass has proposed a complete route overhaul, something quite rare nowadays. It's
Q -> B -> F -> H -> A -> M -> C -> W
(Metal, Crash, and Wood can be in any order). I timed some things, and it looks like the new route will be 60-some frames faster than the old route! I'm also looking into:
Q -> M -> B -> F -> H -> A -> C -> W
It should be about halfway between Seth's route and the old route. i.e., suboptimal. But all 3 are extremely close!

Thanks for the thumbs up! I just finished Bubbleman as well. I'm 71 frames faster over the published run and 21 frames faster vs. my unpublished yet old WIP run. I've found several ways to make this run more techinal. Mostly thanks to warmCabin for pointing them out. I've usually lost my frames due to frame rules and Delay and DownScrolls. They need exactly correct position and position of the music so improvements aren't that vast. DelayDownScroll at Crashman needed a large PreNMI value and propably SE:$1C(FF) as well combined with a correct X and its subpixel positioning so I couldn't save frames over my old WIP at all even I found a way to save 11-12 frames from the stage itself even I was able to avoid frame rule from a big refill. I also found an interesting item1 combo and I was able to use it at Quickman stage. Quickman was 3 frames faster but not enough to tackle the frame rule off so I lost them as well. I also found a better way to handle stuff at Bubbleman but DelayDownScroll (PreNMI I love you) needed that exact placement and position in music and X position so I lost my frames as well. I almost forgot that Bubbleman had an annoying frame rule so I had to go back and manipulate $FC value to the 1 instead of 3. No wonder I lost 8-9 frames at the battle first. That can be manipulated at the frame you jump off the water. Me and aglasscage have been testing Woodman. Our new route seems to be around 50+ frames faster at the moment when I timed it. It's hard to perform because every scroll we need to perform needs special treatment such as high PreNMI value. It had been done but we're looking for possible refinements.

Thanks for the great news! Mega Man & 2 TASes have been at a really high standard over the years. It's exciting to know that you are able to find creative new ways to improve it. I'm ready to make a comparison video when your work's finished. :)

Happylee, have you seen my ghost script for this game? It doesn't support multiple segments yet, but it can make some pretty cool comparisons. I thought you might appreciate it. Of course, the ghost script doesn't show projectiles and enemy positions, so your video will be informative, too. Actually, what if each movie showed the other as a ghost? That would be kinda cool!

Yes. It's a very cool script, and pretty intuitive effects. But I'm kind of old-school on comparison videos, so I may want to stick to my usual approach. Thanks for your suggestion, though.

To give another update on zipless: Link to video The 3 routes I'm considering are extremely close--within 16 frames of each other. I was hoping one route would be clearly superior to the others so I wouldn't have to TAS this game three times...but it looks like I got unlucky :( Here's a sneak peak at Seth's route: Link to video

Here's a comparison of all three routes I'm considering. The two new ones are LOTADs, but they ended up extremely close--barely half a second apart! I need to fully optimize each one before I decide which one to continue.

I assume he uses a lua-script and does the comparison with that

I use a set of lua scripts, which you can download for yourself if you're curious. Sorry, I should've posted this here sooner! https://github.com/warmCabin/mm2ghost

At first I was shocked, and then I realized it was an April Fools joke. :p

Quick update on zipless: RTA route aglasscage route: +58 frames cabin route: +104 frames That's what 5 months of optimization can do! I'm continuing with my route, for obvious reasons. I've found a route through the Wily stages that collects no refills and saves 30 frames overall.

In the discussion thread for zipless, I wrote:

That run would be about a 27:05 if timed comparably to my 27:17. As an aside, I think my route would be faster in that game. If I ever take up PlayStation TASing I might just try it!
i.e., my run is 12 seconds slower than RCW. However, I recently realized that RCW does not have underwater lag, which is a crucial difference! Bubbleman's health bar still has that "stuttering and inconsistent tempo," which is a little weird. But the actual movement of Mega Man and the enemies is full speed. You can watch Bubble or Wily 3 side by side to see paosidufygth get way further ahead during sections of identical movement. I lose 986 frames due to underwater lag, or about 16.4 seconds. Now it seems as though my run is 4 seconds faster (RCW would be at 27:21 if timed comparably). Even accounting for framerate differences (which would put RCW a second or two closer to me), a run with vertical zips and instant switching should not be this close to a true zipless run on the NES. I really do think this is from the Heat fight. If anyone ever wants to improve Rockman 2 on PlayStation, seriously do consider my route!

It's TASing season! Zipless: Link to video Buster Only: Link to video I need some hot takes on this Buster-mostly strat: Link to video I can do this comical series of damage boosts to get pretty far, but no matter what, I'm going to need an Item 2 to reach the ladder. So if I'm using an Item 2 anyway, might as well place it way back and ride it as God intended, right? It's way faster. But I don't need to ride it to make it that far. I only need a little boost. Maybe we can say I'm optimizing for time spent on Items? Not sure what I should do. The RTA folks more or less said it was too stupid to do irl so they'll just keep riding it. I believe herra Shinryuu may have an update to share as well.

Can anyone give me tips on how to beat Wily Fortress 1? I struggled at the part where I need to item one to get to the ladder.
