Main Comments

Well, after 4 years of waiting, it's finally here! A sub 1:05:00 TAS of Abe's Oddysee 100% done in 1:04:18! This movie (comparing from the emulator) is 68 frames faster than the previous movie thanks to some new strats and optimizations! This run also has faster menuing than the previous TAS which makes the opening faster.

Glitches Used

Death Delay Glitch

Often abbreviated as DDG it makes Abe invisible and can corrupt his sprite and eventually become invisible at some point allowing him to get past things that would kill him. Abe will die if he falls of a ledge or gets zapped. A video made by Sligfantry can show you how this glitch works:

Auto Turn Delay Glitch

This glitch works by standing on the edge of the ledge and pressing the down button quickly and run towards a spot where you would like to hoist down. You will need to press either 'left/down' or 'right/down' depending on which direction Abe was facing.

Stop Turn and Backwards Jump

By timing this glitch perfectly you can make Abe stop and turn. To set it up, Abe needs to be standing near a ledge (pressing up whilst tunring arround) you will be able to make Abe do a backwards jump. Notice that when you press the opposite direction to where Abe is standing at the incorrect frame, Abe will just jump up and stand. But if you time it perfectly, Abe will jump backwards and possibly jump to another screen. This will allow you to jump backwards to areas and skip Zulags. In a 100% run it will allow you to get to secret areas quicker and it skips a section of StockYards Escape after finishing the secret area. Multiple Backwards Jump

Whilst performing a backwards jump, simply press up/jump and Abe will do a multiple backwards jump and in this run Abe will use it to skip Zulag 3 to get to Zulag 4.

Diagonal fall

This is done by combining the stop turn and the auto turn glitch. It is used as a time saver in Monsaic Lines and to save a frame in RuptureFarms.

Bird Portal Closure Glitch

This run contains a glitch which saves a few frames. You can free the Mudokon a few frames earlier than a normal rescue. Here is the before and after video on how it looks when using the glitch.

Jumping from a Roll

A new thing discovered by Himmdwag, in some parts of the game Abe will jump from a roll!

Improvements

RuptureFarms

In the later part of this level from Mudokons 19-25, I managed to get Abe to stop turn a few tiles earlier than the published run which saved me a bit of time in this stage.

Stockyards

In this stage, I addded the jump from roll strat from the any% TAS which now makes this stage faster.

Monsaic Lines

I managed to add the stratas from the any% TAS with the 2 slingers making this stage slightly faster!

Scrabanian Temple - Trial 2

From the any% NMG category - runners use a new trick on which you chant before walking to pick up the rock.

Zulag 1

I set up the DDG faster like in the any% run and this time Abe gets to laugh before the glitch!

Free Fire Zone

I added the fargrab strat from the any% TAS. Also there is an audio bug like in the Exoddus 100% TAS I couldn't fix this time - this happens when all the four mines explode.

Update: I finally managed to fix the crash bug in Paramonia and I will have to resync everything again which may take some time. I will re-submit with a faster time for 100% soon.

So I been going through this TAS today and I managed to save some time but now I ran into a desync again in the Paramonian Nests. This one is a pain to fix but if I fix all the hard desyncs I will be sending an updated movie soon! But then there was one time I was saving about 20 frames or so but then I got to one part in Paramonia and the game crashed before the bees section. Out of curiosity, what are the chances of getting this to sync on the latest bizhawk?

I'm trying to sync it on the latest Bizhawk but I've been getting desycns all across the board and for timing accuracy, the game loads slightly slower than the previous Mednafen PSX core so I would have to go by the in-game timer if it's faster or not than this movie.

That's a good idea. However, the latest build makes the game run slower and makes realtime less accurate against all my other Abe movies.

Real time will not matter if the changes were due to emulation difference. It will not be something a judge will count against you.

It seems that many people have been experencing sync problems on PSXHawk since 2.4. I think I'll stick with 2.3.3 with this run for the time being. I am 34 frames ahead than this cancelled run at Paramonian Temple so most of it will sync until I get to the Paramoinan Nests and then I'll need to try and get it to get the hitbox glitch with the 2 paramites in the Nests to quickly dodge them. Hopefully this new movie I submit will get a sub 1:05:00 in Bizhawk as well and hopefuly will fix the audio bug in Stockyards Return as well. Fingers crossed!
