i made a blackthorne TAS a few years ago. i think it's only a few seconds faster than the existing TAS though, but maybe there are some other new stuff there. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/417482927/nfq-Blackthorne%20(U).smv i remember i found a glitch somewhere on level 2 which allows you to skip some stuff... like getting a key. i think it saved several minutes. somewhere on the level you could get hit by a guy while you were climbing on stairs, which caused you to fall through the floor to a place below it. i can explain it better or make a vid if someone needs it if they have gotten that far.

have you put it on youtube yet? i saw your 32x TAS, but the 32x version looks kinda weird because the character looks like he moves too fast.

The project is on a long halt ... most of the time i find a nice trick, the fastest way is to ignore it and take the obvious non-TAS routes :S Anyway no I haven't put it on youtube yet, I think i should finish W1 and then show :) btw the Genesis version runs much faster so yeah that's why the character seems to run faster.... he actually does :) btw you just got me motivated to continue again :) edit: oh btw the gens version contains an additional world in-between the caves and forest worlds :)

I'm somewhat surprised there's no TAS or thread for this. So here's a thread. This is a great game I only played once when I was younger in a hotel room, I rented it on demand from the hotel for an hour back when that was popular, sad hotels don't have that anymore. Here's a review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-QXBTHR-_k

I'm somewhat surprised you didn't notice there was a thread already: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1173 Also, here is another thread for the 32X version, which seems to be the preferred edition: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=215019

I guess the problem is the current search function doesn't seem to parse titles, or have any way to do so... :(

I never see a TAS of this complete set would be really cool to see him, I'm just an observer as I have no tools to do a TAS can just give the name of the game. This game is very cool

Reviving this topic: After I watched a speedrun of this game recently, I decided to pick this game to TAS too. WIP (1-1 and 1-2 finished): http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/38083919347763313 Well, it lags every 2 frames each. So, using frame advance is very useful for a clean input. Manipulating the guards isn't easy. Sometimes, they attack sooner or later. Waiting sometimes helps this. I used a glitch to skip half of 1-2. Saves a lot of time. It's faster to defeat a red guard with hover bomb (but only hit that guard if stand next of a door) than shooting him 2 times. Saves aproximately 4.5 seconds.

This game is in sort of games which interesting to play than watch run of it. Long horisontal running and vertical elevator action. Long waitings of enemy's turning and lags of weapon use. And booring puzzle solvings. But our hero so charismatic by shooting not looking at aims. Only one cool thing about him. Major skips with glitches or unexpected acrobatics make movie interesting. Otherwise it'll be long run.

Okay so I've been trying to see if it's possible to beat this game both without taking damage and without letting any civilians (meaning, any non-combatants) get killed. This is mostly for my own amusement, but also to see if it can be done (henceforth this condition will be called "Royal" in the thread, in honor of Kyle - the player character - being the Crown Prince or something). Doing this for sections 1-1 and 1-2 is possible even in a non-TAS environment. However, the red guard on the right is giving me trouble - there doesn't seem to be enough room on the following screen to dodge his punch (landing exactly as far as I can gets me punched off of the edge of the cliff on the next screen), and he won't move away from the bridge without shooting (which either hits me or kills the civilian). E: It might be possible if I use the hoverbomb (I'll need the beebomb on the very next screen for a door), but I still need to be on the right side of the left guard (plus then I'd be down a bomb) Note: Aside from the above screen, it's plausible to pull off Royal 1-3 realtime, however the purple guard who holds the beebombs needs to be shot as soon as you enter the screen, and then shot again before he has a chance to punch you. The first part is practicable, the second is luck-based (or can be done by killing him before he fires, which the timing on that is tighter) and so a Royal 1-3 is TAS-only without some sort of luck setup. (which given this is TASvideos shouldn't be seen as an obstacle) E2: Uploaded BK2 files for 1-1 and 1-2. Both can be improved, both generally and from a TASing standpoint (1-1 was done entirely realtime, 1-2 was only TASed for tight timings and was otherwise only re-recorded in broad strokes), but the movies should give a clearer picture of what I mean. E3: Apparently Beebombs can be used as shields. And doing that gives me exactly enough explosives to finish the section. 1-4 has also been finished. As always, these are only TASed enough to reach the objective and are by no means optimized (the fact that you have a window of opportunity to shoot a guard after he comes out of sidling but before he fires is proof enough that Royal is trivial in a TAS environment as well as of the fact that these movies are very much not optimized)

I recently returned for TASing...and nearly 3 years later, I did more progress: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/60987016750752409 The improvements starts with the second enemy of 1-2. While some enemies were notably improved, I lost frames with other enemies, in order for get a good RNG (less waiting). At the end of 1-4, level 1 was improved by 243 frames. On level 2...more annoying enemies. Waiting before entering rooms is even more useful for luck manipulation. Also, remote wasps are even more useful on this game (see 2-3 and 2-4).
