There have often been competitions of sorts to see how fast someone on this site can beat a game using tools. What if all of that was organized into a site-wide "tournament"? What would be the subject of the tournament? What would the rules be? What would be the prize? And who would emerge the fastest? There's always that one parallel universe where it actually happens. [16:36:31] <Mothrayas> I have to say this argument about robot drug usage is a lot more fun than whatever else we have been doing in the past two+ hours
[16:08:10] <BenLubar> a TAS is just the limit of a segmented speedrun as the segment length approaches zero

we do have somthing like that, although it involves teams of people rather than individual playersDream Team Contest. We recently did one for a game called Donald Land.

I'd say that the most reasonable form of such "tournament" is to announce a particular goal (usually something other than just get to the end) to be achieved in a particular game, and an amount of time (maybe something like 48 hours?) for people to make submissions. The person who creates the input that achieves said goal fastest wins.

I think OP might be thinking of a single elimination bracket. For example, two players that confront each other have to complete a task like "TAS level 1 of Donald Land" and the fastest one advances in the bracket. Sounds somewhat interesting. Or this.
