Better call it "semi-emulator" to end all the clash

Instead of coining an entirely new term, can we use "re-recording environment" and then shorten it to "RRE" for general talk? It doesn't have to be that term specifically, but this way it keeps things a bit more straightforward.
I'm not as active as I once was, but I can be reached here if I should be needed.

This would be a good suggestion if it wouldn't be shortened. The premise here is that many emulators with rerecording features got the name (for the fork of the project) -RR: MAME-RR, FinalBurnAlpha-RR, JPC-RR, Mupen64-rr, Mednafen-rr. Somewhat feel that extra E a bit unuseful/unnecessary.

Also, "environment" is what emulators are as well, so it doesn't help to answer the main question: If X is not an emulator, than what is it? And I mentioned Wine for a reason: it's an API translation layer just like libTAS, but it's not a rerecording environment.

I think there is some confusion as to what we even need a term for and what it should cover. Should we care about non-rerecording applications like Wine? Do we need to explicitly exclude emulators?

It was my intention, and I see that some people actually feel that there should just be one term that covers all cases relevant to us (like this "RR environment" idea which I definitely saw before). I just think that everyone is so used to "emulators" and "emus" that "environment" won't help to make it clearer and simpler.
