I'm using Desmume 9.9. While the game is unpaused, I can move around in all 8 directions. When the game is paused, I can frame advance while pressing down, up, left, or right, or while pressing up and right, down and right, or down and left. The only thing I can't do is frame advance while pressing up and left. Just to clarify: I can hold the up and left keys while the game is paused, but as long as I do that the frame advance key does nothing. I have managed to get around this slowing down the emulator and inputting up and left while the emulator is unpaused (because this is the only way I can go diagonally up and left), but this method is not as accurate as I would like. Is there another solution to this problem? SOLUTION: In Control Config, I made a hotkey for UP LEFT.

Not unless you buy a specialized keyboard. You can only hold 3 or 4 keys with a normal one.
effort on the first draft means less effort on any draft thereafter - some loser

Use the Autohold feature. I use it constantly and wouldn't survive a single TAS without it.

Wow, I just found a solution. Kind of odd that I solve it an hour after I post about it even though I've had the problem for months. In Control Config I just made a hotkey for UP LEFT, and it works fine.

This is a hardware limitation of your keyboard. The only solution is that you must purchase a better keyboard that does not have this limitation. To be more specific; in order to save money, keyboard manufacturers often put many keys on the same "circuit" of sorts within the wiring of the keyboard. This prevents multiple keys in the same region of the keyboard from being pressed simultaneously. A way to work around it is either set the commands you want to different keys or hotkeys, or use Autohold.

Was mapping frame advance to Alt/Ctrl already suggested? There are some keys that just do let you press them in a bunch.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.
