In a recent submission, it was suggested that if a game is ported to multiple systems, only one version of that game should be valid for The Vault. Any runs for other ports (unless they qualify for Moon) should either obsolete that run or be rejected. Accordingly, this submission was rejected. I was not aware that the site had such a rule, and speaking purely for myself I enjoy watching runs of the same game on different systems, such as Prince of Persia (which currently has vault runs for NES, SNES, and Genesis) or Bubble Bobble (which currently only has a NES run, but could potentially have an Arcade or a PC run as well). Often, ports will have different graphics, sounds, and glitches. Also, if only one port is to be allowed, which should it be? The original one? The one that is fastest to run? The one that looks prettiest? The one on the most popular platform? Perhaps we should have some group discussion about this topic...

Pretty sure it depends on the degree of difference between the original game and its port(s). For instance, arcade Contra or Ghosts 'n Goblins and their NES ports are worlds apart. Last I checked the three Prince of Persia versions you'd mentioned were quite different as well. GG Dragon Crystal TAS that you've linked, however, is nearly identical to SMS Dragon Crystal, and since nobody has vouched for superiority of the GG version over SMS, it was decided that the fastest one remains in the Vault.

As moozooh said, my decision was based on the fact that no one in the thread wanted it published alongside the SMS run. The most it got to was "I don't see why it can't be published alongside the SMS run", as if they actually had no strong opinion either way. In a way, you are the first person to actually question that decision. There isn't necessarily a rule that states only one version of a game has to exist on the site at a time: What matters in my opinion is how different each version is. If two versions of a game are sufficiently different, then they both deserve to be published alongside each other. If they're nearly identical, as in Dragon Crystal's case, then it should be a matter of which version is the "best" for the site, and that needs to be decided by the audience. It doesn't necessarily have to be the fastest, though I assume in a majority of cases that's going to be what the audience would prefer.

And it's happened again, as a NES run of Ghosts 'n Goblins was obsoleted by the Arcade version. So far, a lot of community members express disagreement with this decision. Linky.

That particular run was obsoleted by the Arcade version. However, since the introduction of the Vault, the NES version is no longer obsoleted by the Arcade version. See this post.

I disagree with the notion that there is not enough room on this site for multiple versions/ports (provided they are not completely identical, which Ghosts 'n Goblins is not). There is not a problem of limited space on this site. A bigger problem is that if I look for the Ghosts 'n Goblins TAS, I am going to search in the NES list because that is one that I know. Also, it would look funny to have such an important game absent in the NES list, which would make the game list incomplete. Edit: OK, it was unobsoleted which I think generally solves this.

Check the timestamps. It was unobsoleted three years ago and re-obsoleted now. But yes, one of the purposes of The Vault (as of three years ago) is that we could keep runs like this one.

It never was re-obsoleted. I'm definitely not seeing the "This movie has been obsoleted!" note.

http://tasvideos.org/853M.html, the current NES Ghosts 'n Goblins TAS is not showing that it is obsolete, and it shows up in the complete game list for NES.

NES Ghosts 'n Goblins never has been 're-obsoleted', nor had anything else done to its status, ever since it was un-obsoleted with the introduction of the Vault back in 2012. I have no idea where Radiant got the thought from that anything has been done to it recently, nor how "a lot of community members" have expressed disagreement to a re-obsoleting decision that never happened.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

My apologies, I've been confused by a case of thread necromancy. The thread in question had its latest post in last week, and I missed that the earlier posts were three years old.
