This is an awesome hack of Super Mario Bros. 3 created by Captain Southbird. It is so awesome, it has continuity of other Mario games right down to the elements. (think Sonic Generations) As usual, there are 8 worlds, each based off of different Mario games. World 1 - Super Mario Bros. World 2 - Doki Doki Panic / Super Mario Bros. 2 / Super Mario USA World 3 - Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins (notably Pumpkin Zone) World 4 - Super Mario World World 5 - Super Mario Land (notably Birabuto Kingdom) World 6 - Super Mario Sunshine World 7 - Super Mario Galaxy World 8 - Bowser's Trials World 9 - Star Road World 0 - Secret World There are several prosthetic changes to the physics. You can now jump while climbing. There are star coins. Collect all 300 of 'em. Custom bosses, custom tilesets, gravity switching, ! switches. Yoshi appears in World 4. Coin trail boxes, secret exit spheres, flagpoles, prankster comets. There's the Tanooki leaf, the carrot, the boomerang suit, and the penguin suit. One downside you can't turn into a statue, which is a shame. Once you're a rabbit, you can descend slowly by holding A. Boomerang suit, you throw boomerangs instead of hammers. And the penguin suit is improved over the frog suit as you no longer need to hold something to run, and you can shoot ice balls. You can kick frozen enemies. There also light switches, and the Boos always chase you in the darkness even when you're facing them. The card game is similar to the panel game in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. This game can be played with 2 players, and you can play as Mario, Luigi, and Toad. This hack can be applied to a USA PRG0 or USA PRG1 ROM, use the appropriate patch for the respective version.

Where can the patches be found? Google's not turning anything up. EDIT: Found it. It's actually called "3mix" with no space, and that was throwing off the search results. http://sonicepoch.com/sm3mix/

I have made a TAS of the demo. I will do a TAS of the complete game as soon as the final version is released. Link to video

Well color me amazed. This doesn't look as bad as I feared. I mean there's a few too many enemies at points causing needless slowdown, and the odd graphical glitch... but this looks kinda fun. Some of those star coins are actually well hidden as well. I hope the rest of the game continues to improve along this course. It's ambitious to say the least! Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

The WIP looks fairly well, although it could also be improved on. Starting with the Ghost houses, you could clip through the stairs like in SMW which is much faster than simply going the long way up.

I got back into TASing the hack. I already completed 3-3 and currently have the penguin suit. Should I go back to world 2 and get 9 star coins there then world 1 to get 9 more? Or will I do 3-4 next and do more glitching? I automatically get the penguin suit for fighting big boo. But I should have the penguin suit before entering one of the castles in world 3. There is an occasional glitch in 3-5 where you complete the level for no apparent reason and the course clear text is garbled up. Also, I slightly improved a few areas in 1-1. I had to commit suicide once in the first castle so I will go to the ghost house, get the secret exit, and fight the cheep cheeps and the game thinks you got the regular exit.

I have hit a bit of a snag in 4-2. I'm trying to get the star coin without the Tanooki Leaf. WIP: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/18765289558774865

I am back and it's time to finish the last two worlds before I revisit the levels and prankster comets. I'll post the next WIP after completing Bowser's Castle.

http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/19097974112898163 A new WIP upload from me. It has game completion. The game doesn't autosave until AFTER the credits. I have collected 189 star coins. I need 96 more to open WORLD 0.

I have reached sort of a road block. I am trying to do skip the switches in World 2 Ghost House. 7-7 was the hardest, but awesome skip. I hope to get the run finished before christmas.

Another thing I would like to point out is when you enter the level with a red comet and finish the level, you'll lose your power up. Better stock up on Tanooki Leaves and Penguin Suits from worlds 5 and 6.

I exploited another glitch in the second fortress of world 4. I used the Tanooki leaf before moving to the fortress with a comet to scroll the screen and enter at the precise moment and finish the level and the game thinks you got the comet star coin. So I don't need to complete the level twice to get 100% completion. I wonder if you can skip to the glitched ending in this hack in 7-castle?

I wonder how the finished product will look like. I see that the movie is pretty long, but I'm looking forward for the submission.

I am almost there. I am having a hard time bypassing the 7-7 Daredevil run by doing the "enter level without comet effect" glitch. I done a difficult time saver in 7-7 before. Why am I having trouble doing it again? I am so close to beating all the comet levels. Really Southbird?

So here are some videos of potential ideas for World 3-5... Flagpole power-up glitch: Link to video Wall-clip: Link to video The Flagpole Power-Up glitch can also be used in another level, but I will have to remember what it was.

Getting all the star coins in 3-5, is it possible to wall clip in the small area with the Boo? Of course it'll be slow to swim without the Penguin Suit. I could save the Starman if I want the Penguin Suit still. Either that or I could get another one from a Shyguy encounter. There is a way to get the star Coin behind the wall above the note blocks in 3-5. And do the aforementioned flagpole powerup glitch.

The flagpole powerup glitch was fixed in rev 1. Boomerang Suit was replaced with Boomerang Flower in rev 1.

Interesting. I guess I'll have to play through the new revision again to see what all else was changed.
