So now that Pokémon has been defeated, when does the massive Chrono Trigger game begin?

Why is the streamer using a hacked rom? That kind of deteriorates the feeling of authenticity of the project, and somewhat defeats the purpose (which is to see if 50 thousand people can beat Pokemon Crystal. This isn't Pokemon Crystal. This is a custom modification. It doesn't feel like a genuine project.)
Why are you obsessed with the need for 'purity'? After all, the entire project is molded by how well twitch stream delay and twitch chat work, which is subject to swings, variations and so on. The experiment would have worked out VERY differently if it was done on a site (or at a different time in twitch's history) where stream delay is 0-10 seconds. Spurtiness/lag in chat sending messages to the stream vs smoothness can vary how well the game is controlled by chat as well. etc.
Also, the final battle with Red will almost certainly be modified to include a powered up version of our ending team from TPP Gen 1. Hacking the ROM is the name of the experiment.
Strange question, at tasvideos.org in particular.
If the name of the project is "twitch plays pokemon crystal", then I'd expect them to play pokemon crystal, not some custom game. If any modification is allowed, then it becomes completely arbitrary.
If that's the case, then it makes me lose interest.
I have to admit I also dislike the fact that both games played so far have been hacks. Also, I would enjoy the experiment much more if there was no democracy mode. However, the general awesomeness surrounding the event makes it easier for me to get over those negative points.
By the way, I'm surprised that, in a forum filled with people used to pay attention to really minor details, nobody has noticed (or at least addressed) the reference to one of its members present in one of the images posted in the previous page. :)

If both of those things had been so, then the experiment would have died in the Safari zone, we would not have Zapdos, the resurrected Omanyte, the events of Bloody Sunday, the underdog ATV beating a dragon twice its size and earning the nickname "Dragonslayer", and tons and tons of other fantastic events and memes.
All those became to be thanks to democracy mode. They would have not have happened, and the stream would have just died and faded into obscurity, without it.
I would have loved to see the whole thing advance by not introducing democracy mode, but instead just removing the step limit in the Safari zone (would have been still a problem when you are out of balls but maybe they would have managed to finish it that way).
Warning: Might glitch to creditsI will finish this ACE soon as possible

Removing the step limit would make the experience feel illegitimate, though. I mean, in the case of romhacks that add more pokemon to catch, that doesn't really make the game easier, it just gives you more options for how to compose your team (similar options to if you had started on a different version, say). But removing the step limit? Imagine how awful that would be in retrospect - you'd be describing TPP Gen 1 to someone, they'd gasp and ask 'But how'd they get through the Safari Zone?' and you'd have to sheepishly admit that we couldn't do it, we had to neuter it by gouging the code for the Safari Zone out. Or maybe you wouldn't know that it happened because you weren't there for the Safari Zone, and you'd be clueless to how it was really done, and instead think it was some amazing feat of anarchical co-ordination - even worse.
JMO though.
There is only one TPP, and it is the creator of TPP's alone, and no one else's vision/ideal.
I don't know but in my opinion I would rather say
'We removed the step limit, makes sense right? I mean there is no way that would have possibly worked otherwise'
instead of
'We simply changed the whole concept of control we've been using for days so that it now turned into a slow Let's Play'.
There even were assumptions made that the step limit would have been removed already.

Although I'm pretty sure you can just walk through Dark Cave, in the Dark, without being able to see.

The human element of the run is far more entertaining than the game itself. If it wasn't for someone lying about their record 40 years ago, I don't think we'd take a second look at this run/game.
Meh vote.

What I was trying to say is that I would have enjoyed the event far more if that mode had not been kept after getting HM03 at the Safari Zone.

Safari Zone runs on a timer, make 500 steps (or something) and you’re kicked out
Is the Safari Zone required to complete the game? I've heard things about making the game unwinnable without the step limit removed.
You have to do something like 275 precise steps to get the HM Surf and an item to trade for the HM Strength, both are required to complete the game. As a wrong step should be corrected by doing the opposite of the wrong step (if the player goes down while the goal is to go up), you don't have a margin of 500-275= 225 steps but half of it, so only a 112 steps margin.
You are also kicked out if you: throw all your Safari Ball, use Dig or similar moves or items, or you are at the start of the park and you just quit the park immediately (yeah, you can kick yourself out immediately after paying).
