I was planning on making this into a tool assisted walkthrough, but with the vault rules I might make it into a legitimate run. The file I posted is from the tool assisted walkthrough, which aims to be perfect, not optimized, meaning everything I try to pull off I do, but I didn't check every option to see if I had the fastest route. Let me know if you can see any improvements for movement or strategy. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/128090299/Teenage%20Mutant%20Ninja%20Turtles%20III%20-%20Radical%20Rescue%20%28U%29.vbm ROM used is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III - Radical Rescue (U)

I found a few times when I could have save time and implemented them. That led to better luck on the boss, which added up to many frames saved. Also, I continued my run until the rescue of Leonardo. Link.

I haven't seen your run yet, but there exist a TAS of this game on youtube. Here's the link for reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0bgJpZeDaI

That TAS is pretty sloppy. I might be able to watch it for route planning, though. My movie is 2:20. When that TAS reaches where I am, it's at 3:10.

I found this run, which is faster than the previous link posted. Apparently you can skip getting Don and rescuing Splinter. Link to video

Saw that run too. That's pretty useful information. Good to see that my run is still beating that other run too. That's a good sign.

I've started work on a TAS of my own for this game, since I wanted to take a break from games with more complex movement. I'm not at the point where I'm ready to post any progress yet but I've been checking against arkiandruski's WIP to make sure I don't overlook any strategies of his that may be helpful.
[16:36:31] <Mothrayas> I have to say this argument about robot drug usage is a lot more fun than whatever else we have been doing in the past two+ hours
[16:08:10] <BenLubar> a TAS is just the limit of a segmented speedrun as the segment length approaches zero

I just uploaded my first WIP: Link to video http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1948961815/TMNT%20Radical%20Rescue%20TAS.bk2 I saw a suggestion from a comment by Cristiano on sprocket's TAS that suggested taking this lower route to get to the first boss as opposed to the upper route that all other TASes and runs take. I timed it to be about 8 seconds faster over the upper route so I went with it. EDIT: I just noticed something I should have tested first go round, I'll try editing it in later.

I have comments on the file for you to read. This opens the boss door at 5355 and intentionally pauses before doing so. Just so you know, there's a room coming up you'll have to cross horizontally three times. That room is a lag nightmare. Good luck.

Thanks for this! I'm sure it'll come in handy!

I improved my WIP entering the room before the boss 23 frames before my old WIP and 26 frames before yours: Link to video http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1251280356/TMNT%20Radical%20Rescue%20TAS%20for%20uploading.bk2 I enter the boss room in this WIP for sake of consistency with my previous upload, I'll mess around with various enter times to manipulate the boss when I work on it again later. EDIT: Forgot to mention: walking off that first ledge in the second screen is actually faster because your x-position is unable to change for 1 frame if you jump, so walking off the ledge just happens to set up your x and y-positions perfectly.

New WIP up to rescuing Leo: Link to video 49 frames ahead of arkiandruski's WIP. One thing I've been doing this throughout the TAS but haven't brought up yet is that you're able to use Mikey's helicopter move in order to fall quicker than normal. Even though your downwards speed is lower, just having less time where your vertical speed is basically 0 can let you land on the ground sooner and start another jump. It's something I'm kind of surprised previous TASes have missed. EDIT: I continued TASing and I didn't expect this to happen: Link to video

So, I did actually complete a test up to that point. I'm sure switching to Leo and taking the pizza is faster. Also it allows you to take more hints later in the run.

While I figured taking that path was faster, I wasn't sure if taking the pizza would be faster. The health refill upon activating a pizza felt a little slow, wasn't sure if just manipulating regular drops would be better. EDIT: Timed it, movement completely freezes for 29 frames upon activation of a pizza. I'm just not sure having a pizza activate at all would be worth it. I thought about having one simply for the sake of being able to grab other pizzas for a full heal but they're all out of the way. EDIT 2: I appear to reduce lag by HAVING a pizza? Game wtf.
