That's great!
For such a long game TASing it alone makes progress pretty slowly. I never helped CoolKirby Dolphin-wise, rather just gave out some information I was aware of. Fortunately you're two now, I hope to see more of it :)
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned, but Mario's speed in this game is very strange.
Moving on the X-Axis, mario moves at 2.25 units per frame.
Moving on the Z-Axis, mario moves at 2.68 units per frame.
Diagonal movement is therefore faster than walking straight on the X-axis. Zigzagged diagonal movements is actually the fastest walking method.

I was wondering about that myself. I'm not sure yet, and I'll test in the future, but I think that won't apply to Yoshi.

I don't think so. It's an entirely different game, so the way the game works is much different. Also just found a really strange glitch (potentially time saving???).

Basically, if you can goombella buffer past an entrance/exit and there is no invisible wall beyond it, then you can fall below and respawn back to the entrance you used to get to the "room" that you buffered in.
Anyone know where this could save time? Preferably a long room where you need to go to the end of it to get something and go back, but there needs to be an entrance both by the beginning and end of the room if that makes sense.
There's also a couple of NPCs floating OOB like Luigi and Toadette :P

I'm not sure. I think Charlieton is, but not the others. I know Toadette appears when you get the ultra hammer, so I don't think she can be triggered by just walking up to her. Interesting idea though. Then again the floor isn't solid.

The glitch to fall out of bounds that malleo posted was found about 6 months ago by Medibisu: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFBF22Z2zn8
Him, nathanisbored (person who discovered fish glitch), and I all tested it on most screens very thoroughly.
All of the game's NPCs and cutscene items, regardless of the progress you've made, are stored oob (including the star, machine, and boss of the third chapter). They aren't interactable as far as I can tell. There's something similar in a lot of Gamecube era games (like Twilight Princess has giant floating black boxes with characters from cutscenes in an area that you can even talk to but they have no dialogue).
Also, on screens where you learn a move or curse, there's usually an invisible platform (or strip of water and boat pad in the case of Pirate's Grotto) below the ground where you can stand during the cutscene. The boat pad below the surface is interactable. I'd assume there's also a very thin railing you can ultra jump to below the room where you learn ultra jump.
Just posting so someone doesn't have to retest all of that. None of that is useful ^
Things of note using that oob method include:
The key skip in Chapter 1
In the room in Rogueport with the fallen pillar blocking your path you can perform the glitch and then jump back so that you're partially in bounds on the edge. That allows you to inch your way back behind the buildings. You can't get back in bounds once you're back there, and even if you could being in West Rogueport early doesn't seem all that useful. You can't buy the blimp pass.
You can walk 'behind' other scenery, especially in Chapter 5. Most rooms in the game however have "boxes" around doorways that you can't get past even after performing the glitch.

Dolphin 3.5-1729. There's not a whole chapter of progress yet, so you might want to hold off on encoding it for now. We plan to upload an encode when we've finished Chapter 1, at least.
Also, I'm really not sure if I'll have enough time to continue working on this with Malleoz. I've been so busy with college starting back up this week (18 credit-hours!) that I've hardly had a half-hour of free time at home to continue from where he left off when he left for vacation.
Whoa, that's cool! I hope that can be useful somewhere too.
How did you get Dolphin to display position values like that though? That would be a lot more handy than having to look down at Cheat Engine all the time.
I activated the function in Dolphin to "Show Statistics" and then I used Cheat Engine (which has lua that I used) to change the statistics to things I actually wanna see =D

Back from vacation!
Sorry to hear Kirby, but if you do ever have free time just hop on skype. For now me and masterjun will work on this game I guess. We're nearing the first visit to the thousand year door.

Aaand restarting the TAS again because I found a way to make Mario move faster.
By moving one frame on the Z-Axis and then starting to jump while moving on the X-Axis, the speed will be 2.68 as long as Mario is in the air!
As soon as he touches the floor you have to jump again to keep that speed (hopping glitch :P)
I made a comparison video comparing 2.68 and 2.33 (the speed was 2.33 because the movement was slightly diagonal):
