Age of empires 2 will be officialy released on steam on april 9 this year. It seems to be a mere adaptation to work on newer systems and screens. It will also be integrated with steam workshop for user content. http://www.ageofempires.com/age2.html Is anyone here excited about this? I used to play the hell out of aok trial, and I've already pre-purchased aoe2HD. Being able to play online again is worth a lot to me, those user servers and clients never worked with my router.

They should be integrating Age of Forgotten Empires into it. Other than that, having played AoE2 a lot back in the day, I'm very excited for this. /By the way, there's still an active online scene on Voobly and GameRanger - Youtube Users ZeroEmpires and BBQTurkman have done a lot of casts on those games, including prized tournaments and the like. Very exciting stuff.

Me too. But for 20€/$/whatever I expect more than just a multiplayer and a widescreen/high resolution fix. A comprehensive map editor would be nice e.g. Edit: The gist is: They'll have to deliver more than just an old game and some patches the community had already delivered
All syllogisms have three parts, therefore this is not a syllogism.

I still play this game online, and there's no doubt this will bring a lot of new activity to the game, which is pretty exciting indeed! My only worry is that, apart from the new graphics, the version they release may be fairly far behind what's currently available due to fan-made patches/expansions. Most notably, as scrimpeh mentioned, the Forgotten Empires, which introduced a bunch of new things and made an effort to balance the game better. Hopefully the Steam Workshop will solve that, though.

I doubt this new version will be anything special, but I'll still buy it anyway. AOE2 is one of the greatest games ever, so whenever something new about it is released I can't resist and have to get it.

The guys from Forgotten Empires have already mentioned an interest about Steam Workshop, so hopefully their work will doon be usable with the new official AoE2 version.

So, it's this friday for those who pre ordered! I'm eager to see how the update plays. I fired up my old copy of the game and the unit response was really dated and the gameplay felt really slow. Maybe the 60 fps will improve the unit response. edit: The release version is having serious fps issues on several PCs. That sucks. The devs said they're working on it, but if it doesn't start working I'm gonna have to ask for a refund. It's unplayable. The user patch 1.2 applied to an old version of conquerors works better, but I got the same problems with it, so I'm worried. edit#2: changing the desktop to a single monitor removes the fps issues.

...and that they will. With some added bonuses to boot, from the looks of things.
