Gah! I spoke too soon about my new route. Exchord92 just posted a video on how to copy the golden banana count of a completed file to a new file. That got me thinking about my premise. I previously said that the intro story glitch loads a new file and copies the keys, characters and blueprints of a completed file. What if I got it backwards? What if the glitch loads a completed file and copies the golden banana count of a new file? That would be more consistent with Exchord92's results. The bonus with Exchord92's method is that it keeps the pause function and all of Lanky's bananas. That means that a total of 280 golden bananas IS possible! It also means that Kirkq is correct. My route doesn't actually start from a new file, it just modifies the golden banana count of a completed file. *sigh*

SDA has a pretty impressive sub 1 hour single segment run published now. It includes audiocommentary on audio track 2. http://speeddemosarchive.com/DonkeyKong64.html#majorSSdeaths

Last I checked, there were emulation problems. That was a long time ago though. Also, I know you're new. Here's a link to the Donkey Kong 64 thread: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3516&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Does someone have a save file which has the Rambi arena unlocked? Could be fun to make a TAS of some of the mini-games.

Sadly, the game does not work in mupen/mupen+. So well have to wait for mupen+ to get re-recording support AND support for this game.

Strange, a while ago I remember this worked on mupen when I tried it, but now it doesn't go past the intro screen, no matter what buttons I press. Maybe I was just imagining things before... But how was the TAS made on the previous page, if the game can't be played? Is there a save state somewhere that can be downloaded?

The game runs to a certain extent on the [J] verson of the game. I've been able to make a few single runs using this verson but it doesn't seem worth using for an any% because from what I've tested you can't do glitches involving c^ on the [J] one. Would be lovely if I was wrong though. Here are the runs if you are interested: -Fungi Forest early -Hideout Helm completed any%

Ok, cool. Oh yeah, the J version, it's impossible to find save files for it... I was just thinking of doing a TAS of the Rambi arena or some other bonus stages, but I'm not sure I feel like playing 5 hours to unlock it... if I remember correctly, you had to play through half of the game or so, in order to get the Rambi arena.

Even on the J version the game does not emulate properly on mupen. The game is riddled with random speed ups, decreased jump height (which is obviously terrible for a TAS), and crazy ledge warps that are impossible on console. J version cannot do Swim Through Vertical Walls and cannot skip text like the english version, so there is no reason it should be used in a run. I would love to help TAS this game, but I don't think we'll see it runnable any time in the near future. PS: Rambi arena only takes 6 banana fairies, which can be done in about 15 minutes with glitchs, less than an hour without.

Maybe if you're familiar with the game, but i only played this game once, and it was like 10 years ago.. so it would take several hours, even if I watch walkthrough videos and speedruns.

Hey guys :) I'd like to have some help for DK64 on PJ64. It isn't about TASing or anything, I just want to play through the game again in better conditions than on my original N64 (with HD and such), my computer isn't that bad but the game has some issues while playing, such as music lag and some little glitches sometimes. I've read it could be played perfectly on PJ64 with good plugins and configuration, but what are they ? I'd like to play the PAL or the US version, I just want it to run like it's supposed to. Thanks for the help =) (btw, by playing through the whole game again, I could try to give you some help even if I'm not really involved into making TASes. I hope it will be playable on Mupen64 soon !)

I made it possible to run the US version on a special build of Mupen I made: Link to video There's still more I want to fix, but progress is progress and we're now closer to a DK64 TAS :)

I fixed the physics problems. For example, before this fix you couldn't make the jump from the tree to the switch in Jungle Japes opening. Also, you couldn't make a backflip onto a crystal in the Crystal Caves lobby. Also, the intro played really, really fast and the rap cutscene was desynched. There were lots more problems like this, but all of them have been fixed as far as I know. TAS is ready to be made! Swordless has already started it I think (I sent him an advance copy of the Mupen build).

So which is going to be done first? A glitchfest where very few or even no Golden Bananas are collected, a run that aims to acquire the minimum amount of Golden Bananas or a 101% TAS?

So for a TAS, would low% be the fastest? It will take a long time until we see a 100% though, with all the glitches and possible routes this will be one hell of a project (but still one of the TASes that I need to see before I die)
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

Ringrush is working on the route. Right now it follows closely with "any%" but includes a lot more orange clips and this glitch: Link to video This skips Crystal Caves, 3 moves (Monkeyport, PT Twirl, Super Simian Slam), and a rainbow coin. His most recent stream on Twitch was him routing the TAS up to Aztec and he will probably work on it more soon.
