Since Warp posted the kill-everything Gradius 3 movie, I started considering making a similar movie of Star Force. As I recall, it's really hard if not impossible to destroy every destroyable object in that game.

I made a small demonstration FMV... four levels only. (That's about as far as I've got when playing on a real console...) https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/bisqwit-starforce-incomplete.fmv It misses only a few shots - mostly accidents, due to ground-based objects ignoring being shot - and lets a few enemies go unharmed (I couldn't catch them). Opinions?

Haven't watched it (sorry), but I like the idea. This game has bugged me since forever and I have never managed to complete it. The instruction book says something weird like "In stage P there is a hidden boss".. Something like that. So if you manage to complete this game that would be awesome! Atleast I think so.

I played around some with this too. It's really irritating how everything on the ground cannot be hit until it's halfway across the screen. Makes it impossible to destroy everything in most levels probably. Like those arrow things which take a lot of shots to destroy. I'll check it as soon as possible, which might not be very soon, but anyway.

I wanted to take a break from any serious TASing and do something just for fun, so I picked up this game and TASed the first 6 levels. I aimed for maximum score, but unfortunately, it's not possible to kill every enemy in this game (only a few slip by). Again, I did this just for fun, and I'm not at all sure I will continue it, and even if I do finish it, it's probably not submitting material. If you have 10 minutes to spare, put on some good music, make yourself comfortable, and take a look: .fcm .fm2 youtube

Hi, everyone! I saw a WIP by YouTube username "tasvideosrandil" of Star Force NES, and it got me thinking, "Would a Star Force run by me get published?"
If I could have a tool-assisted real life, I'd... Being a novice, I'd probably load the wrong state, have the IRS AI bankrupt me, and eventually make me want to kill myself and redo 11 years of hard work.

JWinslow, didn't you read Fractal's post?

JWinslow23, you have been submitting too many subpar TASes and no form of constructive discussion has taken place. Do not submit any more movies for the next week or else we will have to take away your submission privileges.
You need to calm down and STOP SUBMITTING. My reccomendation is, first, make sure there is a record already of the game. Second, you need to know that most movies take MONTHS to make. Trust me, I did a tas of Mario's Time Machine, and it took 2 hours....but it didn't seem publishable. Got all that?
So yea, how's it going? Currently TASing: Nothing

Yes, but there is only one flaw with your theory.
I haven't submitted it yet!
But still, I understand about the "it takes months, or years" thing, so no need to remind me.

Agree with JWinslow. Just remember to build off of what others have already discovered, so you save some time. No sense in reinventing the wheel. Also, think about collaborating with an experienced TASer, if you like, so you get a different viewpoint/approach. One last tip: do some research to see which platform is best: NES, Arcade, etc. (choose the more difficult, better graphics, better music, etc.). Good luck, and remember to post WIPs in this forum! (Speaking of shooters, I think a 1-player max score dot eater on the hardest difficulty of Ikaruga would be well-received.)

The youtube user "tasvideosrandil" is me, by the way. I'm glad you liked it. :) If you're serious about making a Star Force TAS I can share what I have (input file, RAM addresses, etc.). EDIT: I found now that I already my a post about it in the original Star Force thread: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=234352#234352 A moderator might want to merge these threads.

Done. (Ironically, I only noticed this post right after merging the threads.)
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

Just took a peek at the YouTube upload, Randil. Good stuff — it looked like you had a lot of fun! I noticed you didn't rapid-fire kill the first mini-boss prior to it combining (the secret 50k bonus point trick) - example here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybQWiLwYlls There are a few other hidden bonus point tricks that can be done in this game, listed on various sites, if you ever decide to play around with this again.

@tasvideosrandil (oops, sorry! @Randil), I of course am serious about this! (Also, I may never get anywhere with NES Monopoly, this was on the site wishlist, and it looks interesting to TAS, so why not?) I want all the technical details, including and especially the point values and RAM values!

You know, I've heard about trolling before, but I don't know what it means! What does it mean?

It means don't take some kids too seriously. Anyway, post WIPs here, we love that.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Could be useful! Do you mind if I collaborate with you on a Star Force TAS, @randil (oops, sorry! I mean, Randil)?

I'm afraid I'm not very interested in TASing this again. I can, however, help you on your way by watching your WIPs and give feedback.

I'll work on that (and get more of the point bonuses that you missed)! Edit by JWinslow23: I'm at the first boss of Level Alpha (past him, actually), but I feel as if I'm missing some points. WIP soon to come, so Randil can give me ideas on improvements!

Hi, this is my work in progress, it shows the first 3 levels, which are the ones I've done so far: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/4523595919271131
